I’m no doubt misunderstanding something simple and obvious. You know, being clueless
But in my defense, I did get a little too much sun today…

Going that generic route, as always you can choose any topic, I understand. However,
when selecting general topics on the main page, it's missing from the menu
(as shown in my previous screenshot) https://www.bricklink.com/messageList.asp?msgTypeID=3
In addition, the link provided to the new topic page is absent the (Post New
Message) link others have.

It all seems to be there for me. I only just checked for the first time so maybe
it was fixed after your post (daily maintenance?).
