| Hi all,
I'm sure this has probably happened to most sellers so any advice is appreciated.
A little over a week ago I sent an order to a new Bricklink user, their first
ever order was at my store and they haven't placed one since. However since
I sent the order they haven't updated the status to complete, although it
should have arrived by now. As a seller I can update the order status to complete
myself, although I feel that this is wrong.
Is it common for buyers (especially new buyers) to never update the order status,
or take extra long to do so? If so is there anything I can do to prompt them
other than message them? I have messaged this buyer but he hasn't gotten
back to me for a few days.
It's not a massive problem, it just annoys me a little as it looks untidy
with the rest of my completed orders lol.
Also I had another buyer (also new to Bricklink) who updated the status to complete
but never left feedback. Again is this a common occurrence?
Many thanks, and enjoy your evening, Stan.

| I have never once updated an order status as a buyer. I do not update it to
complete as a seller either. Some buyers do, most do not.
My advice, don't bother people about it. It seems kind of fussy to ask people
to do this unnecessary manual step because you don't feel tidy.

Yes, and I wouldn't bother messaging a buyer about it, it is a courtesy not
an obligation for them.

Yes, it happens. I think the most common rate for feedback is about 60%.

mark an order as complete.

| For the satisfying feeling of closure? Orders are a seller’s responsibility until
completion, having too many hanging might be unnerving.

| Buyer may not have picked up the order from the ship to location (PO box) or
maybe hasn’t had time to open and verify contents yet. I’m sure the buyers out
there who place orders with 100s of lots would be annoyed if you changed their
order to complete as soon as it was delivered.

| There has to be a reason that sellers are allowed to mark orders as completed.
I always interpreted the ability to do so to mean that the order is complete
on the seller's side. If the buyer doesn't think the order is not yet
complete they can change the status back to something else right?

It locks to completed after 7-10 days, forget the exact time frame.

I did this when I was first selling, waited for at least a month. Then I had
a buyer contact me and ask me not to change the status on his order, as he used
the completion status for some specific reason. As soon as they said that I
realized it really made no difference to me, but it could make a difference to
a buyer. The very last thing I want to do is annoy a buyer for a reason that
in the end didn't actually make a difference to me.

I've done it a couple of times myself and never had a buyer contact me about
it, but now I wait for the buyer to do it, if at all. If I don't want to
see it any more then I just file it.
I've even gotten positive feedback on orders that were never marked as Complete
or even Received.
I actually think a seller being able to mark an order as Complete is a mistake
- note that the seller can't do this if the buyer marks the order as Received.

Completed by the buyer. I'm trying to raise my feedback score as a seller
so I keep orders I know have been delivered through package tracking so that
I can send a reminder message to the buyer about a week later until I file the
order for good no matter what.

Hi!
I agree with this. I often sent messages to buyers to remind them to finish the
order and inform me if there was a problem. It didn't bother them at all
and have gotten a boost in feedback because of it. I have had 50 ish orders and
about 20 of them actually completed the order. I pushed the messages and reminders
making it 34/50 have completed and left feedback. It does work but depends on
how you remind them.
Take care, - SB

| Personally I think the drive-thru message is enough for this. If the buyer has
a problem with the order you'll know, you don't have to remind him or
her to inform you!
Honestly I think my ratio of feedback to orders is good (~68%) in part because
I leave feedback first.

Hi Stan,
This happens to me all the time even with buyers that are not new buyers. sometimes
they just forget to mark it complete. I just leave it, it used to bother me (OCD
would kick in) but now I don't email them or change it myself I just leave
it and file the order and move on.
I also do this with ones that mark complete but never leave feedback just file
and move on its not worth the worry. You can still file the order and not have
it marked complete or if its complete but no return feedback it can still be
filed so no worries.

| Unfortunately it's all too common that order status is not updated, even
by high feedback buyers, buyers also update and don't leave feedback.
When the later happens I post positive feedback for the buyer, sometimes they
respond with positive feedback, sometimes they still don't respond.
If you get no response on status or feedback at all, you just have to accept
it and let it go.

So do you tend to leave feedback after the buyer has left feedback? So far I've
always left feedback as soon as I have shipped the order.

| There are differing views on this but I always wait until I believe the buyer
is happy with the order, most probably post after shipping, some like myself
choose to wait.

I love this. Instant feedback is the mark of an honest seller and/or the confidence
to handle accidents as they come up. It's saying we trust ourselves, or we
trust you. Both are reassuring to the buyer.
The cleverclog stores prefer to leave mass feedback at the end of the month.

There are good reasons for a seller to leave feedback *after* the buyer does.

| Because the buyer has not indicated that the transaction is complete yet. He
may end up claiming his order was missing half the parts when your positive they
were there or nitpick a used item which was well described. I think you can change
feedback later on, but the more logical thing to do is wait until the buyer says
he’s happy with what he bought and the order is done.

| Yup. Feedback can be changed only 30 days after it is posted. PayPal lets buyers
open a case for 180 days after payment. Buyers (and sellers) have 6 months to
leave feedback on BL.
A BL transaction is complete either when the buyer tells you it is by leaving
feedback and/or marking the order as complete.

me. Which somehow PP sided with the buyer on, but still let me keep the money

I'm confident enough in what I sell to not worry about a potential scenario
like the one you describe. The buyer can nitpick whether I leave positive feedback
or not, and since feedback is less important to a buyer than it is to a seller,
I'm also not worried about leaving a feedback that ultimately turns out to
be undeserved.

| You should expect about 70 to 75% of customers will move their order to complete
and about 60% will leave feedback.
I wouldn't recommend moving an order to complete. Some customers eventually
move it to complete after a month or more. Everyone has their own reasons for
doing things the way they do and I view "complete" status as something for the
buyer.

Hi!
It's really common. At first, I was worried the buyers never received the
order but they have. Usually what I do is give it about a month then check the
shipping status. If received and they haven't informed you within a month
of any problems, the order is pretty much completed. Do place it on your terms
just in case 😉
Take care, - SB

Yep, 2/3's of my orders are marked complete. My stance is, unless the buyer
complains, assume that everything is okay. Then make it right when they complain.

| And here's the real answer of when to leave feedback... if you click on 'my

in complete state.
