For UK Sellers to EU

I've just been reading that from 1st July all sales to EU from UK will be
subject to VAT and Custom's charges, whatever the value. The article was
suggesting either sellers would not add on any charges and these would be levied
on the customer once the goods had entered the country of delivery, and before
delivery would be made, or that the seller would pay them in advance and choose
what to pass onto customer.
What are other UK sellers opinions about these options, which are you going to
opt for? And if it's the latter, is it going to be different depending on
the individual country the items are going to?

Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving...
Thank you

I'm not from the UK (or EU), but the status quo for businesses is that the
buyer is always responsible for any fees related to import. The times that I
typically will see a business have the customs/taxes fees being charged back
to them is when they try to push a presence in a country, but they ship from
a different one. So for us in Canada for example, we will sometimes see a US
based company run a .ca Canada site, and then still ship from their warehouse
in the US. But even then, it feels like at least 90% of the cases I see, I'm
still the one paying taxes/fees upon import, and I can only think of one situation
where the seller/business covered the import.

In terms of BL, I cannot think of a single store I have ever seen that covers
import charges for a buyer.

Isn't collecting EU VAT on the roadmap for BrickLink? Of course, that's
distinct from any customs duties.

Yes, I think the OP was asking only about right now in this interim phase. And
even then it's not the seller covering the charges for them. They will be
charged and included in the cost (as I think for EU, prices shown include VAT),
but it is BrickLink collecting it and not the seller themselves.

Yes, and it’s what will have to be collected by BL on July 1st.
(It should have been January 1st, like UK, but it was postponed due to Covid.
UK didn’t delay because they were already out of EU at the time (for the decision)
and it coincided with their final exit from EU (customs-wise).)

Of course, that's distinct from any customs duties.

Well, it’s a “customs charge” as it was collected by Customs (still will be above
€150).  Also, when collected by Customs, it’s not exactly “VAT,” it’s “import
VAT,” and, in some countries, the name doesn’t refer to VAT but to some kind
of duty.
€150 is the threshold for “real” duties (tariffs).

I don’t think the out-of-EU prices will include this import VAT on the PG for
EU buyers because it’ll only be collected by BL if the _total_ amount is below
€150.  Above €150, it’ll be collected as it is now: by the postal/delivery service
(which will add their fee (€15 for La Poste, yay France!)).

Also, like for Sales tax and UK VAT, non-EU sellers will have to offer an online
payment method to be able to sell to EU buyers (for a total below €150, maybe
it’ll work without for above €150?).

Which is how it should be, as many of the sellers shipping to the EU are not
covered specifically by EU regulations.
