Am I seeing it right?

Yes, you are. Having two of these in a set allows the user to build a track that
does not circle around. It just goes to the end of the track, turns around and
then goes to the other end, where there is another switch.
If you take a look at the inventories they are used in, they probably ALL had
at least two switches. There were always two in each service pack.

Yes, you are. Having two of these in a set allows the user to build a track that

I prefer to be careful.
On the other side of the box flap of 7720 (from 1980), it shows only one direction
switch however there are two for 7722 (from 1985).
For 7720, I have not found any evidence that there are two of them.
