Turn off (the completely useless) search suggestions.

For example, I want to search for 850939, I enter that term and hit return. Instead
of searching for that, the search is replaced with "850939 formerly". Yes, I
know that instead of hitting return I can instead stop using the keyboard, grab
the mouse, move it and click search. Meaning I have to do more than entering
the term I want and hitting return, which is what I would expect to do based
on just about every other search engine works.

Given that BL's search is quite pathetic anyway - no fuzzy search, no plural
search, etc. would it be possible to turn off the suggestions for searches as
these are nearly always unhelpful and actually distract from the search I type
in.

If not, at least have the search default to sets at the top of the suggested
list, followed by parts and remove boxes and instructions or have these last
(as these can be found from one click from the set).

I argee 100% with this suggestion. Inadvertent search terms, due to the overly
helpful auto complete, have wasted much of my time.

I agree. At least until the function has been improved/fixed.

Voted yes.

Agee!
This is a giant time suck - I've opened numerous trouble tickets on this
"feature".

It's hit and miss for me.

Annoying:
Sometimes, my mouse will be hovering in the wrong spot slightly below the search
bar, and I'll type my search term and hit enter and instead of searching
my term, it goes to the suggested search that the mouse happens to be on. So
if I want to search "clone", and the cursor is too low when I hit enter, it will
search slope.

Helpful:
Completing the names/spelling of characters when I only know the first 3 letters.
Especially when there are spaces or dashes to consider.
ironman vs iron man
spiderman vs spider man
thisen vs thi sen vs thi-sen
etc.

This happens to me all the time when I'm listing new parts - it's infuriating,
time-wasting, and I hate this behavior. It affects just about every single-line
text entry field.

It drives me round the bend always having to make sure my mouse has been moved
away from the area of the screen below the field which I often just had to click
on before I type anything in the field itself, or to go back to correct the random
quantity it selects for me.

I tab around between fields a lot to avoid this, but then the mouse might just
randomly be over one of them and boom, there you go - the wrong value is selected
anyway.

Bricklink devs, please remove this automatic selection of whatever your
mouse happens to be hovering over in an autocomplete options popup list below
the active field.

If I didn't click on it, I didn't select it!

I can't imagine how frustrating that must be.
I use excel and convert to XML for uploads.
A lot of copy and pasting, but at least all the fields (cells) act like they're
supposed to.

Visually, It's easier for me to control to be able to look 5 lines up if
I'm worried I forgot to list as "Used" or the "did I put 2 for qty on that
one?" type issues.

The search function can be absolutely frustrating and unfortunately just one
of many many things on this site that is so backwards implemented. Simple tasks
that takes twice the number of steps to accomplish than what is really needed.

Why bring up a page with a Back button? Why not just go back automatically? Absolutely
stupid to bring up a page that just requires yet one more click. The list could
go on...

But.. I have given up hope that anything will be done in a proper and professional
manner on this site.
