came with (some copies of) 7750. However Morris believed it came with some copies
of 7740. I had also seen in in some copies of 7740 and we didn't find an
extra black 3134 with a new 7750 that Johan owned. The question remained open
until I bought a used incomplete 7740 from UK. The puzzle resolved! Here is what
we know:
- 7750 was only sold in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Scandinavian
countries.
- 7750 was ONLY produced in 1980. The production run ended in 1980 and the left-over
copies were sold until 1981-2 in the countries above.
- Gary Istok always says: "TLG never throw anything away!"

TLG didn't produce 7750 since 1981 but they still had some black

part appeared in my used copied 7740 purchased from UK (inside the UK variation
of box, only sold in UK) and some other used copies 7740.

I also own a sealed copy of 7750 form late 1980 but I can only see two of brick
modified 3134.

Now, I think this is going to be the most strange extra part, but it is as it
is. I hope you accept it and I can write a note and request it to be added to
the inventory.

I am sorry, but I do not believe the evidence you present is satisfactory to
add this part as an extra.

(1) You do not have any evidence from any new or original 7740s that the part
was included.
(2) Even if TLG had leftover 3134s in black and TLG never throws anything away,
TLG had no reason to include the part in this set since it was not even needed
in the set.
(3) There have always been other ways to acquire LEGO parts rather than directly
from sets, so I do not believe that all 3134s in black on the market came from
sets.
(4) Evidence from 7750s do not reflect what might have happened with the 7740s.

It is nice that all of you want to think that you have the history of the sets
and parts figured out through lots of anecdotal hypotheses, but changing these
old sets based on a lot of assumptions does not sit well with me.

If you find more conclusive evidence in the future, feel free to bring this up
again.

Cheers,
Randy

(1) You do not have any evidence from any new or original 7740s that the part
was included.

We only own photos of one copy of a new 7740. This set is ultra rare.

  (2) Even if TLG had leftover 3134s in black and TLG never throws anything away,
TLG had no reason to include the part in this set since it was not even needed
in the set.

They still did it.

  (3) There have always been other ways to acquire LEGO parts rather than directly
from sets, so I do not believe that all 3134s in black on the market came from
sets.

Yes, this does not explain why we always find one black 3134 with a 7740 that
is from early 1981. (production date can be checked via motor or the box can
give some indication)

  (4) Evidence from 7750s do not reflect what might have happened with the 7740s.

Evidence from 7750 reflect the fact that no extra black 3134 was included in
7750 (this is what I tried to believe and prove but I failed)

It is nice that all of you want to think that you have the history of the sets
and parts figured out through lots of anecdotal hypotheses, but changing these
old sets based on a lot of assumptions does not sit well with me.

The production of 7740 was between 1980-84.
If we find 3 copies of 7740 from early 1981 with box coming with one black 3134,
would you consider this an evidence?
What if we find 10 copies?
What if we find 50 copies?

Keep in mind we have find a black 3134 always in a lot including 7740!

If you find more conclusive evidence in the future, feel free to bring this up
again.

Cheers,
Randy

It may sound arrogancy, but we have not made any mistake so far in regard to
trains from 80s and this one is correct as well.
An extra black 3134 (with an extra note) on the inventory of 7740 is not that
important but it is what happened and some people may find it interesting.

I also post the conversation we had about this part.

I have added an inventory note to the set concerning this, but that is the best
you are going to get from me for now.

Me: This is a lot
(broken link)
consisting of incomplete 7740+853+918 .There are few strange items there too,
like old window,... but I found an item that should not be there

Part No: 3134 Name: Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Cable Holding Cutout
*
3134 Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Cable Holding Cutout

The motor is from mid 1981.
But 7750 was never sold in UK!

*****
Morris:
Hello guys!

Reza, you do not believe that black brick 3134 should be there... but you have
to! And now I explain you why.

In 2015 there was a 7740 for sale on eBay here from Italy, I already sent you
the photos of that set long time ago when we were discussing about the connection's
wire included in 7740. This set, whose photos I attach again here below, was
incomplete, but apparently very little played with, the sleeper plates were still
sealed in their bag, the rails were still bound in (broken) rubber bands, the
sticker sheet was nearly complete. There was no motor there, but a 1981 Train
catalogue was included, so I assume this was surely a 1981 release; I also believe
all the bricks were original of the set (I recall the seller had no other set
for sale). In photos 13-14-15 you can clearly recognize the black brick 3134
(see the blue arrow). At that time I immediately saw that brick, and was a little
surprised too because in my 7740 (which is a 1983 release) that brick is not
included. But then I read somewhere on the web (I do not remember where) about
someone else talking of this brick included in 7740. I don't know why TLG
included it on the early releases of 7740, apparently it is not necessary to
build the set, I think it was an extra part.

And now... how will we convince BL Admins that it was included 7740? How can
we find a MISB 7740 released in 1981??

Bests,

Morris
*******
Johan:
Hello Friends,

Interesting! Actually on two separate occasions I bought a childhood lot that
contained a set 7750 + a set 7740. Both times I found a third black 3134 in the
loose parts. I always assumed that it was an extra from the set 7750, because
that would seem the most logical. But it could well have been a extra part from
set 7740 to...

bests

from what I found in lots containing 7740 and 7750, l have strong reasons to
believe 3134 black was a extra part for some sets 7740.

- Once I found 3 parts 3134 black in a lot with one complete set 7740 and one
complete set 7750.
- One other time I found 1 part 3134 black in a lot with a set 7740 and not even
a trace of a set 7750.

It would be nice to add this part, but I understand that it can not be added
based on assumptions.
