| This makes finding similar things overly complicated.
Medium legs are are in this category
and some printed ones are in the decorated equivalent
That makes sense.
Yet others are apparently modified legs, although I cannot see how - I can just
see print differences
The dress / skirt piece is in body parts
and printed ones are in there too, as there is no decorated equivalent
[p=36036pb01]
[p=36036pb19]
Yet others are catalogued as modified legs - again I can just see print differences
[p=36036pb20]
[p=36036pb21]
[p=36036pb22]
It also seems a bit odd to call a single part an assembly.
Yet there are modified legs, but these are not catalogued in modified legs but
go with the regular legs
What exactly is the modified legs category meant for?

| I believe it's a very new category that is still being worked on, similar
to the glass and shutter category. I know the peg-legs will be moving over there
October 1st.

Your examples are all HP Series 2 items that I created last week not aware that
there was a "printed" category.

OK, thanks. It's annoying when changes are done very slowly when the catalogue
becomes a bit of a mess during the process. It's one of those things where
I don't really mind where things like these go, so long as they all go in
the same place.

Minifigure, Legs Assembly - For complete standard hips and legs assemblies
used for minifigures.
Minifigure, Legs Assembly, Modified - For nonstandard leg assemblies
and single parts used primarily as legs for minifigures.
So the idea is that Minifigure, Legs Assembly will be only standard legs. All
others go in the modified category, including decorated versions.

All leg combinations, both assemblies and single pieces, that are not standard

Hard one... If it already says Legs, maybe the assembly part is
not needed in any of the three categories, even if it seems strange at first.

Wow, that's actually a great idea! I never considered it, but there's
really no need for "Assembly" in these category titles.
So we could change from these:
Minifigure, Legs Assembly
Minifigure, Legs Assembly, Decor.
Minifigure, Legs Assembly, Modified
to these:
Minifigure, Legs
Minifigure, Legs, Decorated
Minifigure, Legs, Modified
Minifigure, Legs, Modified, Decorated (new category)
Anyone opposed? If not, I could make these changes within the next day or so.

| I have no objection, but I would point out that all along it should have been
a Hips Assembly, since they are all 973c*

True. Well, technically a hips and legs assembly. But I think we all
refer to them simply as legs, so it's better to get rid of the assembly portion
of the category titles anyway.

| | Minifigure, Legs
Minifigure, Legs, Decorated
Minifigure, Legs, Modified
Minifigure, Legs, Modified, Decorated (new category)
|
So what goes where?
Minifigure, Legs - will this just be plain regular legs+hips (plus variants where
legs might be different colours to hips and so on) but not short legs or medium
legs or new skirt pieces.
Minifigure, Legs, Decorated - I guess anything that is like above but decorated.
Minifigure, Legs, Modified - are these just plain short legs, medium legs and
new style skirt pieces, plus things like pirate and robotic leg assemblies.
Minifigure, Legs, Modified, Decorated - so printed versions of the category above.
But what about regular roof slopes that are legs?
For example:
* | | 3678bpb063 Slope 65 2 x 2 x 2 with Bottom Tube with Minifigure Dress / Skirt / Robe, Ornate Silver Fabric, Belt and Tassels Pattern Parts: Slope, Decorated |
these are legs. Would they go into Minifigure, Legs, Modified, Decorated or remain
as a decorated slope?
I ask as
Same parent part, even the same character and the same name here, but their location
in the catalogue depends on the intention of the use in the set they came in.
So any slopes that were decorated and intended to be used as minifigure legs
should go into the "Minifigure, Legs, Modified, Decorated", right?

These will remain where they are based on the criteria that similar items should
be grouped together whenever possible. The decorated slope you referenced is
not a separate piece designed specifically for use as legs.

The catalog got off on a bad start with statuettes in 2010 when the first one
was added. These should all be categorized as figures and only 11 out of 45
aren't.

Don't be so sure. I am not in favor of making things that are not figures
in sets into figures just for the sake of having everything in one place.

It might sound silly at first, but if I were the king I would make a figure listing
for the ones that are actually figures, but make a piece listing for ALL of them.
Then inventory the figures with the single piece.

The reason it hasn't been done in the past this way is because then there
are 2 listing possibilities for a single item, which effectively halves the listing
strength. But maybe we could prevent one or the other entry from being used to
list.
But there are other problems, too, with the way it is now. If they are listed
as figures, then we lose the PCC connection with Brickset and LEGO.com. It also
creates a problem in Studio, because minifigures are not part of the shared parts
database.
On the other hand, items labelled as "minifigures" tend to sell better as they
are a different class of item. I believe this is one of those issues that needs
to be handled with a complete action plan that accounts for all of the side effects
of current proposals.
