Set No: 9398  Name: 4 x 4 Crawler
*
9398-1 (Inv) 4 x 4 Crawler
1327 Parts, 2012
Sets: Technic: Model: Off-Road

Part No: 44809 Name: Technic, Pin Connector Perpendicular 2 x 2 Bent
*
44809 Technic, Pin Connector Perpendicular 2 x 2 Bent
Parts: Technic, Connector

2 parts #44809 in set #9398 are listed at the bottom of the inventory
as an alternate item. But alternate to what?...

We just bought a bulk of lego and took apart truck 9398 to check
what part are we missing. While building it we found out from
the manual that 2 parts 44809 are needed but I couldn't find them
in the BL inventory. And finally I found them at the bottom
as an alternate item but I can not find the other part in main
inventory.

Is it possible that 2 parts #44809 were put by mistake in the bottom
section for alternate items?

In the regular section of the inventory there are 30 pieces of part 6536 with
match ID 1. In the alternate section there are 28 pieces of part 6536 and 2 of
part 44809 with match ID 1. So it appears that 2 pieces of part 6536 were replaced
by 2 pieces of part 44809.

There are multiple parts linked to Match ID 1.

It seems like the 30x

Part No: 6536 Name: Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular
*
6536 Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular
Parts: Technic, Connector {Light Bluish Gray}
in the Regular Items section are replaced with 28x

Part No: 6536 Name: Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular
*
6536 Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular
Parts: Technic, Connector {Light Bluish Gray}
and 2x

Part No: 44809 Name: Technic, Pin Connector Perpendicular 2 x 2 Bent
*
44809 Technic, Pin Connector Perpendicular 2 x 2 Bent
Parts: Technic, Connector {Light Bluish Gray}
in the Alternate Items section.

I suspect that this set probably had a redesign at some point and should have
Match ID 99 used instead along with an inventory note.

I will look into it.

Cheers,
Randy

Hi Randy,

I'm sorry, I was curious and I looked that up.

The two

Part No: 44809 Name: Technic, Pin Connector Perpendicular 2 x 2 Bent
*
44809 Technic, Pin Connector Perpendicular 2 x 2 Bent
Parts: Technic, Connector {Light Bluish Gray}
are used at the front and back but I didn't find out why. Maybe they give
better support/less friction for the gear wheel?
