Two of these are required to build two of the models shown as photos on the instruction-sheet: see pages 13 and 14 on Peeron's scan of the sheet.

How do you know that the brick in those photos that are unseen have the pattern
on them? The logical side of me says that the symmetric side of the train car
would have the same brick, but the skeptical admin side of me says that I need
better proof. Do you have any other reliable source or information that could
help with this request?

Thanks,
Randy

I've owned two copies of this set; both came with two of these bricks.

And when you say "owned", were the copies originally purchased new by you or
were they used sets?

Thanks,

My current one is used, but it came boxed and complete with the expected vintage
of parts.

My original set, back in the late 70s, was new.

Thank you very much for that information. Along with the Peeron inventory, I
think that I am convinced of the inclusion of two of the patterned bricks.

I have one more question, though. How many plain yellow 1 x 6 bricks do you have
in the set? One of the models in the instructions uses seven 1 x 6 yellow bricks
which the BrickLink inventory confirms, but the Peeron inventory states that
only six came in the set.

Thanks again,
Randy

That, unfortunately, is harder to answer! I don't recall how many were
present in my original set; my current (used) set certainly has 7, but I have
no way of knowing whether the seller included extra parts.

Hi Randy

Peeron says 2x 3009p01 and 6x 3009 yellow 1x6 bricks, BL = 1x and 7x.
http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/162-1

Not visible on both sides, only 1x on the extra models:
http://www.peeron.com/scans/162-1/13 (left model maybe 2x, right model 1x of
2x?)
http://www.peeron.com/scans/162-1/14 (bottom model 2x?)
I count 7x yellow 3009 on this model http://www.peeron.com/scans/162-1/9 - Maybe
turned over?

I sold this set a few years ago, unfortunately can't find any data.
