Is there an easy way to identify some of the more unusual colours? I know there's
a colour chart but I've a few bricks in a particular shade of blue that I
can't match with any of them 100% Similar problems with some yellows/oranges

I think the best option is to collect a sample of parts to check against as it
can get tricky. This is one of my colour charts I've made with 2x4s

In general, the best way is to look up the part itself on BrickLink and see which
colors it was actually released in.
