I am trying to identify a torso, by the inside structure.
The newer torsos (the white one, right side of the picture) appear to have the
"X" shaped stud clips.
I think the older torso (the blue one, left in the picture), do not have any
internal clips, and just have a "7" stamped inside (Yes, it does have the Lego
logo on top of its neck).

I would like to find a white one like the blue one, with no internal clips, but
the catalog does not seem to make any distinction about the insides and there
is no part number 7 listed.

Part#17 is the old style torso :
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=17&name=Torso%20Old&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Torso%5D

Is the blue one a version of Part# 973 :
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=973&name=Torso%20Plain&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Torso%5D
/
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=973b&name=Torso%20NBA%20(Plain)&category=%5BMinifigure,%20Torso%5D

OR something else ?

Thank you in advance, Ian
.

Hi Ian

Right, the BL-catalog makes no distinction.

For this one, there are 3 types:
* toothless
* small 'x' teeths
* bigger 'x' teeths

Part No: 973 Name: Torso Plain
*
973 Torso Plain
Parts: Minifigure, Torso

What you need is a white one from the first type torso as we know now.

We don't talk about the old type '17'

Part No: 17 Name: Torso Old
*
17 Torso Old
Parts: Minifigure, Torso

More info here about the torsos:
https://www.leggodt.nl/items/lego/themes-minifigs.php?language=en

A lot of shops make the difference (like I do).
But at this moment I don't have any toothless torso for sale.

Stefaan

Thank you Stefaan, that is a VERY full answer.
Cheers, Ian

I think the best chance you have of getting that torso is buying a whole fig
from that era, perhaps message the seller ahead of time and ask if there are
prongs or not.

You can search the comments on the items for sale.

https://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?viewFrom=sa&shipCountryID=US&itemBrand=1000&itemType=P&colorID=1&q=prongs&searchComments=Y&searchSort=P&sz=100

There is 2 listed in this search (one is cracked). I searched on prongs, there
are other words too that can be searched.

Here is the search page (make sure to click on comments)

This is useful, but unfortunately Bricklink does not let you search comments
for a specific catalog entry. So you can search all listings for "prongs"
but you cannot search only minifig torsos for "prongs."

Goatleg will let you search comments for specific minifigs and specific sets,
however. For example, you can search for listings of a minifig that include mention
of "accessories" in the comments, or listings for a specific set that includes
mention of "instructions" - or any other term you want to search for.

The ability to search comments for specific parts is also possible, and that
feature may be added to Goatleg in the future.
