| I also looked for 4265a/4265b because there was a discussion last year regarding
this part ( https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=237703&nID=1094481
). I have 4265b and my set is from August 1995 (batch code 3315), so it's
one of the earlier copies. Should I change something here? Put "b" in regular
and "a" in alternate because we only have a proof for "b" at the moment? Or
put "b" in regular and delete "a" like it was done in set 8816 from 1994 ( https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=250080&nID=1134336
)? Or leave it as it is because there were enough changes in the past?
Regards,
Jonas

Actually, your evidence for removing 4265a is much more convincing than the entire
thread discussing this issue last year. At that time, everything was based on
the instructions and conjecture. This set of yours (an early release) and the
instructions now both back up 4265b being the correct variant in the set. I am
inclined to get rid of the 4265a entirely. However, 4265b has been changed back
to 4265a in the change logs more than once, so for now it shall remain. What
I will do is add an inventory note that 4265b has been proven with sealed set
contents so it does not ever get removed again.
What is amusing is that no other Inventory Admins since February 2012 ever caught
on to the fact that the Match IDs for this alternate pair were wrong.
Cheers,
Randy
