I would say 2 parts is right.
You can build 3 different models with this set.

For model A
2 on step 1

For model B
0

For model c
1 on step 1
1 on step 7

Great catch!

There are indeed three used to build the crane-car model (model C). One is used
in Step 1, one is used in Step 5, and one is used in Step 7. They are highlighted
in the finished build below.
