Can't find the difference between these two mold type variations:

Part No: 19159 Name: Technic, Pin Double Triangle 1 x 3 with 2 Clips with Squared Pin Holes
*
19159 Technic, Pin Double Triangle 1 x 3 with 2 Clips with Squared Pin Holes
Parts: Technic, Pin
and

Part No: 47994 Name: Technic, Pin Double Triangle 1 x 3 with 2 Clips with Round Pin Holes
*
47994 Technic, Pin Double Triangle 1 x 3 with 2 Clips with Round Pin Holes
Parts: Technic, Pin
The only difference in the description of these two items is: without Center
Cut, but I can't find this difference. Can anyone shed some light on this
mold type variation? Thank you!

Can somebody upload a picture of both items where the Technic pins are seen from
the top down, so that the difference between the completely hollowed out Technic
pins and the slightly hollowed out Technic pins is clearly seen? Thanks. One
might also wanna change the related items description (catalog admin).

Yes it does help, I got the new mold type (19159) which has no center cut, so
now I can compare them.

Did this fast, but you can see the Technic pin difference.

Cheers,

Great, thanks.

But that’s not a “Center Cut.”
A “Clip with Center Cut” is this:

Part No: 93794 Name: Tile, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip with Center Cut
*
93794 Tile, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip with Center Cut
Parts: Tile, Modified

Here, both parts have “Clips with Center Cut”

If you look at the first image I posted you will see there's a centre cut
in part to the opposite side of the pins, I'm not sure if this is the difference,
I don't have both to compare with anymore.

Yes, both parts have a clip with "center cut". That is why the descriptions are
very, very confusing and do not mesh with reality at all.

I meant to get the ball rolling on this a couple of months ago, but other things
took priority.

Cheers,
Randy

It is, but you can do a lot of building techniques with 47994 that you can't
do with 19159.

Very nice image, BTW!

So 19159 might no accept a bar in those pins (easily), correct?

Niek.

Yes. A bar wouldn’t fit at all.

Some pins allow bars, and some official sets do use the possibility.
Newer variants not accepting bars while older variants did can be annoying

Thanks. The name suggests a difference like

2555 Tile, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip

That's why we are having this whole conversation, because the descriptions
are wrong and have never described the true difference of the parts.

In all cases where LEGO uses the parts, they are functionally identical. Although
the parts can be used for different kinds of builds in reality, I think merging
the two entries, adding an alternate item number and adding a catalog note would
be more than sufficient.

Noooo, please keep the parts as they are.

But please change the name to something better to help people tell them apart.
My suggestion is:

19159 Technic, Pin Double Triangle 1 x 3 with 2 Clips, pins with rectangularish
hole.
47994 Technic, Pin Double Triangle 1 x 3 with 2 Clips, pins with cirkular hole.

Now it will be easy to know that the differeces are on the pin side.

Thanks!

Please don't. Whether two almost identical parts should be merged as one
item or cataloged as two different items depends, as I understand it from countless
debates here in the discussion forum, on there functionality. If they function
the same then they should be regarded as one item but if they differ in functionality
(as is clearly the case here) they should have different entries in the catalog.
The fact that the description of the parts is inadequate up to now, which causes
a lot of confusion, doesn't justify a merge. As the picture of mfav clearly
shows; part 47994 can accept a bar in the Technic pins while part 19159 can't.
A far better approach in this case would be to change the description of both
items, where Pontus proposal for the changed names and the picture from mfav
should be a good starting point. Thanks.
