I believe also that The other variant appeared in tthis set since 1985.

Stefaan claims to have a version of the set from 1984 (the year of release) with
the open stud. However, Stefaan did not specify anything about his set and the
condition it was in when purchased (although he may have done so for the original
change request in 2011).

You didn't either, though. You say you're basing the information on
your personal collection. This may mean a new or used set purchased in childhood
or adulthood - I have no way of knowing.

At this point it's your word against Stefaan's and neither of you have
provided a shred of evidence for which variant appeared in this set. I will
leave this request open for a little while longer to give you and/or Stefaan
the opportunity to provide further information.

Hi

Here we have the Brazilian box. (pictures from all sides taken in 2011 when I
bought it from a Brazilian seller, already sold a few years ago).
(was also add by my as alternate box image = https://img.bricklink.com/ItemImage/EXTN/2815.png)

On the front the 'piece count'. The back with the same pictures as my
box.
The boxcode = 196103

As you can see the box was sealed with a 'sealed sticker'. Not the same
as we had in Europe.

The instructioncode is the same (EU/BRA) = 120336, only the printer was different.

Still missing info about the USA/CAN? boxcode (think 196101 or 196102) and instructions.

Probably mine was the CAD/USA version. I am so surprised to see that there was
a Brazilian variant of this box.
Does your box have an inner tray?

Hi

Around that time TLG started operations in Brazil.

No inner tray or inner box for that box format. Have more boxes from that format
example 6690-6691-6692 etc...

  At this point it's your word against Stefaan's and neither of you have
provided a shred of evidence for which variant appeared in this set. I will
leave this request open for a little while longer to give you and/or Stefaan
the opportunity to provide further information.

I fail to figure out how my set coming with

Part No: 3942c  Name: Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Open Stud
*
3942c Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Open Stud
Parts: Cone
has anything to do with Stefaan's set coming with

Part No: 3942a  Name: Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Solid Stud
*
3942a Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Solid Stud
Parts: Cone

I also don't see why this is not yet approved, maybe I was not clear enough:
by "personal collection" I mean those sets I had as a child.

My set came with

Part No: 4276a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
*
4276a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
Parts: Hinge
and

Part No: 4275a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
*
4275a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
Parts: Hinge
So it was a 1984 release. I believe those released in 1985 came with 4276b and
4275b (almost all sets in market came with hinges with hollow stud).
It came also with

Part No: 4081a Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Light Attachment - Thin Ring
*
4081a Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Light Attachment - Thin Ring
Parts: Plate, Modified
The hinge

Part No: 3324c01  Name: Hinge Plate 2 x 8
*
3324c01 (Inv) Hinge Plate 2 x 8
Parts: Hinge
had red pivot. I believe it came with

Part No: 3962a Name: Minifigure, Utensil Radio with Compact Handle
*
3962a Minifigure, Utensil Radio with Compact Handle
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil
but I cannot check because my childhood collection is many thousands kilometers
away from me. For this utensil, I had one another before having this set. Those
I got after having these set were the later variant for sure. (I can check this
one day.)
I also remember the piece count 93, I guess written on the box. Apparently this
"piece count" was a particular thing for US market so it is interesting that
my copy was a US version.

I appreciate your honesty. Let's consider what I know about your childhood
collection. First, it's somewhere far distant from you. Therefore, you're
relying on the memory of your childhood collection and memory is notoriously
unreliable.

Second, parts in the collection spanned the years 1965-1993:

Third, you mixed your childhood sets together and used them to make other things:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1081787
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1083439

Therefore, you're basing this request on the memory of a LEGO collection
which spanned many years and was all mixed together. It shouldn't be a surprise
that this request and the one associated with it were not approved.

!!!

Not at all, I am getting used to your decisions.

My first set

Set No: 6881 Name: Lunar Rocket Launcher
*
6881-1 (Inv) Lunar Rocket Launcher
90 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1984
Sets: Space: Classic Space
after about three years, my second set:

Set No: 6895  Name: Spy-Trak I
*
6895-1 (Inv) Spy-Trak I

Having bought this set, I noticed the new type of clip rings and utensil
I got my first blue 3001 with this set. Believe it or not, I didn't check
the inventory of 6895-1 to make sure that a blue 3001 comes with this set.
I am almost sure that I got my first 3962b with this set.
Then

Set No: 8024 Name: Universal Set
*
8024-1 (Inv) Universal Set
114 Parts, 1989
Sets: Technic: Universal Building Set
This was when I saw hinges with hollow studs for the very first time
then

Set No: 5510 Name: Off Road 4x4
*
5510-1 (Inv) Off Road 4x4
275 Parts, 1986
Sets: Model Team
then

Set No: 6267 Name: Lagoon Lock-Up
*
6267-1 (Inv) Lagoon Lock-Up
167 Parts, 5 Minifigures, 1991
Sets: Pirates: Pirates I: Imperial Soldiers
then

Set No: 6531 Name: Flame Chaser
*
6531-1 (Inv) Flame Chaser
50 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1991
Sets: Town: Classic Town: Fire
Finally my brother bought me this (few years after that he promised me to buy
a Lego set)

Set No: 8720 Name: Motor Set 9 V
*
8720-1 (Inv) Motor Set 9 V
56 Parts, 1990
Sets: Technic: Supplemental

What my older brothers have before me (and before my birth)? Here they are:
The latest one was the wonderful Technic set

Set No: 857  Name: Motorcycle
*
857-1 (Inv) Motorcycle
410 Parts, 1979
Sets: Technic: Expert Builder
My favorite set among those I had. I made room in the sidecar and put my motor
8720. It worked very well.
Empty box of

Set No: 733 Name: Universal Building Set
*
733-1 (Inv) Universal Building Set
499 Parts, 1980
Sets: Universal Building Set: Basic Set
(The shop owner said that his son (together with his cousins) opened and took
the parts and instructions. He gave this for free to my mother and brother
)
Other sets like

Set No: 316 Name: Fire Fighter Ship
*
316-1 (Inv) Fire Fighter Ship
133 Parts, 1978
Sets: Boat: Fire

Set No: 230 Name: Hairdressing Salon
*
230-1 (Inv) Hairdressing Salon

Set No: 712 Name: Sea Plane
*
712-1 (Inv) Sea Plane
107 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1977
Sets: LEGOLAND: Airport

Set No: 697  Name: Stagecoach
*
697-1 (Inv) Stagecoach
92 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1976
Sets: LEGOLAND: Western: Cowboys

Set No: 214 Name: Road Repair
*
214-1 (Inv) Road Repair
64 Parts, 1977
Sets: Building Set with People: Traffic

Set No: 612 Name: Tipper Truck
*
612-1 (Inv) Tipper Truck
17 Parts, 1974
Sets: LEGOLAND: Construction
I don't know how this is even possible, but we also had Italy-and-Japan-only
minitalia set

Set No: 2 Name: Medium Basic LEGO Set
*
2-11 (Inv) Medium Basic LEGO Set
128 Parts, 1977
Sets: Minitalia
You are probably not aware such a set exist and how different its door and window
are comparing to other Legoland sets.
And a lot of various parts belonging to sets from 1967-74 and few from 1975-78
but mostly bricks 3001, 3002, 3003,....

could you kindly the number of 3942c (in any color) included in this collection?

Honestly, there are still two things that I am not 100% sure about:

  Third, you mixed your childhood sets together and used them to make other things:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1081787
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1083439

Therefore, you're basing this request on the memory of a LEGO collection
which spanned many years and was all mixed together. It shouldn't be a surprise
that this request and the one associated with it were not approved.

If we mix all Lego parts together, then would some parts merge together and make
a new part? For example, can a white

Part No: 3941 Name: Brick, Round 2 x 2 with Axle Hole
*
3941 Brick, Round 2 x 2 with Axle Hole
Parts: Brick, Round
and a white

Part No: 3062a Name: Brick, Round 1 x 1 - Solid Stud, Bottom Lip
*
3062a Brick, Round 1 x 1 - Solid Stud, Bottom Lip
Parts: Brick, Round
merge together and make a white

Part No: 3942c  Name: Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Open Stud
*
3942c Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Open Stud
Parts: Cone
?

The second thing that I am not sure and that I cannot verify is that if we leave
a big empty Lego box (like 733-1) for longtime, may a plastic seed sprout then
grow to become an adult brick like 3942c?
