1. I had no idea anyone was waiting on an updated image until I checked it today.
( a message would help )

2. The system prevents a larger image from being uploaded. Gear seems to be
limited by 800x600 pixels.

Suggestions???

There is a bypass procedure. Take a look at the last paragraph under Guidelines
on this Help page:
