| The photos are from an MISB set belonging to the owner of the store Basteq.
This set is most likely from the first production run as the date of motor is
45 4 (45th week in 1984). The light gray brick
is included suggesting that the old variation of it was never included in this
set.

| Bonjour,
6 on left
39 in the middle. But 3 is on left side and 9 on right side. What does this give?
I checked my set from 1986-7. It does only have 3001 on left top side.

| The motor is dated 45 4 (45th week in 1984) so it was already expected that the
interference free conducting rail
was included. It doe not have reinforcements as seen in the last photo.
As always, this part comes with the paper

| Concerning the hinges, I believe:
1) the inventory of the vintage trains were never made by checking a sealed set
as all the mistakes or incompleteness are those not found on instructions or
box. So I believe the hinges with solid stud was not verified to be included
in a copy of this set.
2) The motor is of type 3 dated 45 4 (45th week in 1984). This set is from 1985-90
so this copy should be from the first production run of this set.
Other parts included in this MISB set confirm this, for example the part
does not have reinforcements. In 1985 this part was improved and reinforcements
were added under the notches. Also
So in this first production run, the hinges are already of hollow studs.
3) As we don't have any proof that the old variants of hinges came in any
release, I requested to delete them.
More conservative option is to change them to alternate parts. Even if the old
variants of hinges were included, that would be in less than 1% copies of this
set so it makes sense to change them to alternate.
In the photos we can see most hinges. The owner of this set checked and confirmed
that all hinges were of hollow studs.

| Dear Robert,
Some time ago, I applied to add black hinges as alternative to 7735. My request
was immadiately rejected and then, many messages were sent or replied, if you
remember.
Note that both sets 7735 and 7745 were released between 1985-90.
At the time, I believed the hinges with hollow studs were produced since 1985
but didn't have any proof. Here we have a proof for 7745.
May I now request to add hinges with hollow studs as regular to 7735?
Note that the user go4bob have had kept this set since 80s based on which he
submitted an inventory change request on Feb 23. I contacted him and he confirmed
that his trains 7735 comes with hinges with hollow studs.
Here is his video but we cannot see the hinges:

You're welcome to resubmit any request which was rejected. I trust you would
only do this when you have convincing evidence, though, and you should have a
general idea of what that would be by now.
I'm still hoping that someday you find enough evidence to resubmit the request

| I have not much hope to find photos of a MISB 7730.
However, I am running some statistical research on all 7730s with the help of
Morris. This may give a better understanding of what really happened with this
set.
However, I noticed that the cones with axle were used in
[p=6950-1]
I mean, the axle was really used. This makes more likely that the cones
were really produced in 1982. However, I believe they were produced since 1981.
At the time, you told me that you had a long discussion about that inventory
change request and checked details deeply. Was there anything interesting that
in that discussion you can share with me?

I've read all the way through that thread and don't see where I said
that. If I said that or something similar, then it might have been in a private
message or an email to you.
Regarding the discussion you reference: It wasn't a long discussion, but
it was a private communication and I wasn't given permission to share the
details. I wouldn't say I learned anything which would shed any great light
on the situation, but I did learn enough to know that we will need very solid
proof to add the axle hole variant to the inventory.

| Between 5 and 20 years ago, I bought 3 of these trains on eBay. All three had
solid stud hinges, both black and gray. Neither train was fully complete, so
this is no proof at all, but to me, it makes it very likely that this train has
been produced with solid stud hinges too. (I don't mind exchanging these
solid stud hinges for open stud hinges though.)

Fantastic job on collecting your pictures! The pictures for these requests are
large, clear, and incontrovertible. I've approved these requests and am
still looking over the others.
Just a word of caution, though: I have personally seen variations of these bricks
(old and new) mixed in the same set. It's something to look out for as you
continue your efforts. When I saw it in a sealed set it was based on color -
so the blue 2 x 3 bricks, for example, were new and the red 2 x 3 bricks were
old.

Yes, I am aware of this fact.
I had asked the owner of this copy of 7745 to check all bricks. Also, I own a
very good boxed copy of 7745 that I bought from UK. Based on the parts included,
mine should be from 1986 or 1987. All 2*2 or 2*3 bricks are the old variants.
So I think this inventory change request is correct.

All of the other requests were approved. For this part, I'm confused on
the role the rail with connector wire played and why it was later included as
an alternate.
Can you explain that in more detail, please? Does it have to do with the alternate
motor? Would the inclusion of a rail with a connection wire have changed the
type or quantity of connection wires which already exist in the inventory?

It does not have anything to do with the motors (alternate, regular, substitute,
extra or any type of motor).
I use a message that Morris wrote me (since his return in January, we put our
knowledge together and therefore, you are seeing many inventory change requests).
This is something important, and there will be many inventory change request
relating to this. So please do your best
I should say that the whole story is not very easy. It took me many months to
understand the whole evolution.
In 1980 the sets 7730 and 7740 were released coming with both curved and straight
conducting curved. In 1981 the set 7725 was released coming with ONLY curved
conducting rail. (TLG tried to release a nice train with three cars but using
less parts than 7730 or 7740. The result was 7725)
However there were interference problems, caused by the track, to radio or TV
reception, so the Lego Group introduced the special suppressor rail 3241c, which
was necessarily curved because it had to be included in 7725 (no straight rail
included in it). We believe that this happened in 1982. This part was also included
in 7730 and 7740 since 1982.
Please note that 3241c was always accompanied by the leaflet 117983, but unfortunately
this paper is not dated.
And also in the MIB 7740 provided by Bluxe (motor date 22 81) apparently there
is no 3241c. In my perfect boxed 7725 (in the same lot as those space sets) whose
motor is dated 29 81 there is no 3241c. So this is why we think it was released
in 1982.
This part was also included in 7735 and 7745 in 1985 as you see in the photos
of this sealed 7745. But in 1986, TLG decided to integrate 3241c and a wire that
had to be used to connect the conducting rails to the transformer (without wire,
the trains won't move )
The result, I believe, was
I have good evidence for this, otherwise, this part is not included in any set
on bricklink. In 1988, this part was replaced by
And this is another case for which the inventory does not have enough features.
I don't know what we can do with this. This is the summary of what I would
like to see one day for the inventory of 7745 and 7735:
1985:
1986-7:
* | | 117983b Paper Information Note, Special Suppressor Rail with Wire and Connector - 117983 Parts: Paper |
1988-90:
* | | 117983b Paper Information Note, Special Suppressor Rail with Wire and Connector - 117983 Parts: Paper |
How can we show this on inventory?

I made a stab at it. Take a look at the inventory now and see if looks okay
to you (also read the inventory note).
I agree that it would be nice to have a cleaner way to represent situations like
this in inventories, but I think the current method serves the basic purposes
of inventories.
Unfortunately, as you've noticed, the inventory system is not perfect.

Hi
No bad!
Maybe a 'rule' to use the MID '99' for this 'specials'
(like we can find in a few inventories, but don't ask me at this moment what

These notes are very nice. Great job.
How can I request to add other notes for other sets?
I think the font of notes should be bigger. It is so small that makes viewers
think that those notes are not important and they may even not see them.
You can guess how many times I have checked the inventory of this set. It was
for first time that I saw the other notes concerning wheels. The notes should
be presented in a way that a first-time viewer see them easily. I think the notes
should come also in the middle of the inventory on the bottom of the part the
notes are about. Or maybe, a small notes can be added (between the image and
matching ID) saying something like "check the notes Number two". This should
be easy to be coded. (adding an extra column and some other changes)
These are some just rough ideas to initiate some discussion and to find a good
solution.

Honestly, I'm not sure. For catalog requests which can't be accomplished
with the standard form you can post here in the forum. That option is not, so
far as I can see, available for non-standard inventory requests.
If you'll post in the forum under the Inventories topic, then I'm sure
that your post will be read and considered. You can also post as a catalog request
and a catalog administrator can then change the topic to an official forum inventory
request, but please use this sparingly. The catalog administrators have their
own things to worry about.

I don't think the size of a note has relevance to its importance, but I can
see how some people may look at it that way. I have asked that inventory notes
be moved to the top of the inventory page. I was told that this would be considered
once some other changes of greater importance had been made.

I don't believe this would be desirable due to the fact that it would break
up the inventory. I think the top of the page would be quite sufficient. Regardless
of the location or size or color of the font, I can guarantee that inventory
notes would still not be noticed or read by a certain percentage of members.
