Judging by other sets (e.g. 10197-1), the alternate count must match the regular count, not the sum of regular and extras.

Judging by other sets (e.g. 10197-1), the alternate count must match the regular count, not the sum of regular and extras.

There were different approach to deal with alternate to extras. See also this
tread https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1066533. I adjusted it as in this
set for example I think this is the best way to deal with this problem.

There were different approach to deal with alternate to extras. See also this

set for example I think this is the best way to deal with this problem.

I remember that discussion now. I was part of it, but I don't remember any
final decision was ever made. Only a suggestion to management.
So is your suggestion here (which is the same as in the other thread, and which
I think is good) the correct to handle the situation for the time being, i.e.
should I update any inventories that don't follow this pattern? It's
probably many.
