I have had to cancel quite a few new buyer International orders when they find
out the shipping costs. Is there a way to have them request ahead of tome so
I don't have so many cancelled orders?

A shipping table in your store terms might help. I wouldn't expect people
to go to USPS and enter details to figure out rough prices.

^As he said. Also add weight limits so that they know that they may be able to
add more items to the order without increasing shipping cost. I have a chart
that you may look at as an guideline, however I have not updated the prices since
the last time they went up. For me it's not much of an issue, I mostly sell
electronic instructions anyway.

Also it may be helpful to put the minimum international shipping price (~$13)
in the international shipping option name.

Unfortunately USPS has decided to do away with tiered shipping prices and instead
make everyone pay at an 8 oz price even if the package weighs far less than that
threshold.

The first thing you should do is to put a shipping cost table in your store terms.

Then at least buyers has a theoretical chance to see shipping cost before placing
an order. This of course only works for those buyers who actually read store
terms

I have shipped 900+ orders and never had a buyer ask for order cancellation because
of shipping cost.

Kind regards

I agree with the suggestions above. Definitely put something in there to at least
let folks know a baseline.

If you don't have the quote option available, perhaps enable it.

If the buyer buys only a few light items, we'll invoice them, but we'll
also sometimes send them a follow up message to let them know the shipping charged
is the actual shipping cost, no fees were added. It's just expensive to
ship internationally. We'll also let them know how much their package weighs
at this time and let them know how much more they could add to the order for
the same shipping. That way, if they happen to need any other parts that we have,
it might make the high cost of shipping more worthwhile.

Sometimes they still cancel. Somewhat understandable if the cost of shipping
is more than the items. However, still a bit frustrating when you have quotes
enabled and at least some informtaion on shipping on your terms page.
