The original torsos first appeared in 1994, so those are ~23 years old. The torsos
back then had short ribs inside the torso (like a jumper with bottom stud holder)
instead of the long ribs that appeared around 1998 and continue into today. Therefore,
there would be no difference between a modern torso and one 10 years ago, but
there would be a difference between a modern torso and the original version of
this torso. I believe this helps to set up a nice precedent to get more modern
torsos with classic prints into the catalog, so that vintage minifigs and modern
minifigs both have the proper torso mold for the time period they were released.

Cheers,
Randy

I was surprised to see these torso variations make in into the catalog. Before
these are added to inventories, a close look needs to be taken at the complexities
of the early torso, meaning that there are both no ribs and short ribs, and 3
different kinds of hands, all in the space of the earliest few years (1978-1983).

This is a far cry from the minifig head situation, which has three distinct eras,
each of which is large enough to make a complete transition from one type to
the other. And the head is of singular importance in Lego, and IMO is worthy
of special treatment.

The large X-rib on that particular torso has been around for at least 8 years...
So what is the intention? Change the inventories of all the minfigs attached
to it
That would cause quite a lot of problems with listed ones, which means new minifigs
would need to be created, old ones marked for deletion, and the same would need
to be done with the torsos themselves...
And then some of you wanna do the same for hundreds of minifigs

I think it would be a really bad precedent, as it's gonna clutter up to catalog
if done 'the right way'. And any other way is gonna mess up peoples listings.
Count to that the many figs that might have been made with both torsos (transitions
periods) and it's gonna be hell to manage it, not to mention it's gonna
mess peoples collections who have figs sorted 'by number', when suddently
they are going to be renumbered or marked for deletion, and +20% of minifigs
will need to be added in catalog...

The catalog should not handle such (and that was Dan's desire as he made
the initial rules about minifigs), people can handle that for themselves if they
want to.
This is a marketplace in the first place, not a 'collectors database'
place, there are other sites for that...

Actually Eric, with the Paradisa fig you're right. We originally added the
different torsos because it would be wrong (in the eyes of sticklers for accuracy,
anyway) to have a fig reproduction torso in an original Blacktron set, say.
They are easily distinguished because of the print/lack of print on the neck.
But the range of years over which

definitely raises issues because some of the newer figs have the neck print as
well as the new style ribs so there are more than two distinct variations. We
may have to rethink this one.

I apologize if I just made a giant mess this morning. I may have run past what
I "know", but it seems like there was a significant time gap between the Paradisa
sets with the old print and when new minifigures started showing up in the new
mold. I made inventory change requests only on the ones that started showing
up in 2005, which was 8 years after the mold change according to information
shown below. I saw these replies now as I was pondering if there was some way
to let hundreds of people know that their inventory may contain a newly created
part.

It's not your fault, Jon, I should have thought more before approving this
torso in particular. And no, unfortunately the system was set up to make it
very difficult to send a mass notification to sellers listing the items because
of the worry about spamming people.

It's not your fault, Jon, I should have thought more before approving this
torso in particular. And no, unfortunately the system was set up to make it
very difficult to send a mass notification to sellers listing the items because
of the worry about spamming people.

Bottomline: warn the Inv.Admin(s) to not approve on these changes...

The different torso variations could be dealt with in another way (I'm willing
to share my ideas on it), but it would need some thinking 'trough' and
it would need adjustements from/by the site developers to be able to keep the
current listings and still make it 'more obvious' for collectors to have
a 'guideline' on torso variations and thus without messing up the inventories
or peoples listings. Sitewise it would be prerable to give this a big 'freeze'
untill something is set up where all 'parties' can be comfortable with.

You know where to find me if you wanna brainstorm

I warned the inventory admin over an hour ago.
