Please see following post.

There was a rebuild of this set involving a service pack and a new set of instructions
(and eventually a new version of the set). The big issue was the black wedges
on the sides falling off, but TLG also made improvements to the flaps between
the wedges and also to the large white storage compartment.

The new version instructions are available at Brickshelf, but I have attached
key pages here for convenience, in addition to a small chart and a photo of the
service pack pieces.

One interesting point about the wedges - apparently new wedges were sent out
with the service pack as well, intending to replace the old wedges. This would
almost certainly signal a new mold was used which produced better clutch strength.
These wedges were released the year of the set (2002) and an alternate part number
exists not too far advanced from the original for both R and L sides. It could
be argued that the first wedges were designed specifically for this set and that
the new molds were designed specifically for the rebuild.

According to TLG, the Design IDs 42019 and 42020 were molds used to make transparent
(polycarbonate) versions of the wedges made with Design IDs 41749 and 41750 (the
ABS versions). However, if you look at the history of parts made with the molds
using Design IDs 42019 and 42020 at Brickset, you see that the molds were each
used to make *one* Black version of the part exclusively for the set you are
talking about. Therefore, the later Design ID molds were not exclusively for
the rebuild, but Black versions of the parts were made using the polycarbonate
molds due to the polycarbonate molds offering something that the normal ABS molds
did not.

Cheers,
Randy

Interesting point. Thanks for looking that up. I had someone recently ask me
about the new color of curved slopes in this rebuild:

Set No: 75101 Name: First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter
*
75101-1 (Inv) First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter
501 Parts, 4 Minifigures, 2015
Sets: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 7
Since the color of the parts is hidden when the model is fully built, it seems
as though the color of the part was in some way a structural improvement. Bayer
did test with different colors.

Or, it could be that the color was one they had in stock and were not using it
in another set at the moment. Remember, TLG always uses what's at hand!
