Please see following post.

This is perhaps the most well known "fix" by Lego done in the early years, and
it's surprising it hasn't been accounted for yet in the BL inventory
system. The alternates I am adding are for the early version of the set, the
one with the foldout instructions.

A brief overview: the changes people know about have to do with a beefed up 3-point
hitch, right where the hitch pivots on the axles for the back wheels of the tractor.
However, these changes mostly involve an ingenious switching around of parts,
with the result that very little had to be changed in the way of the inventory.
As it worked out, the total changes effectively meant adding 9 parts to the set.

So we have A) 2 red 1 x 4 bricks being replaced by two 1 x 4 plates, and B) 3
pins added (one for each vertical 1 x 4 technic beam used as a brace on each
side and one pin added as a stop for the hitch lever). Note that the reduction
in the number of 1 x 4 bricks does not affect the totals in the inventory, because
the two alternate models in the instructions require 10 total. The first version
of the main model requires 9 and the later version requires 7.

In addition, there are a few other improvements. Two 1 x 1 red plates are added
to fill in gaps below the seat. I believe the purpose of this was to give more
stability to the fenders, since they were actually weakened a bit when the hitch
was made stronger.

Another difference is that a 1 x 8 red plate is added to the back side of the
main implement. On the box pictures this 1 x 8 plate is absent.

The last difference is that a spacer was added to the axle of the large gear
on the main implement which connects to the power take off gear on the back of
the tractor. The instructions for the main implement were completely redrawn
and they show this spacer clearly.

Below I have attached some images to fill in the gaps of the early instructions
found at Brickfactory. There are some missing pages and the steps involving the
1 x 1 plates are hard to see clearly at that resolution. I have also attached
a small spreadsheet comparing the totals in both versions.
