I have been selling for over 10 years, and I have never experienced a slump like
this.

2015 June sales - $3700
2016 June sales - $1500

2015 July 1-11th sales - $3200
2016 July 1-11th sales - $269

My store was not closed at all during these times. I did leave my store open
with an announcement that I would not be able to ship one week, and that was
one of my busiest weeks.

I haven't been able to place any orders for months, I used to spend $200
to $500 A month. Very little has changed, besides not being able to add as much
stock. Last year at this time, I had about 450,000 parts, now I have about 350,000
parts, so I would expect a 20-25% drop, but not 90+%. I have been resetting prices,
playing around with my featured items, discounting lots, posting a couple of
sales announcements, (with VERY little result), adding less common parts from
my own personal stash...

Any suggestions? I realize the switch-over would cause less orders for a bit,
but this is crazy. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Maybe prices are too high? People don't like the x20 minimums?

I too have also noticed a slump since the site redesign. To be expected I guess.

I am a much smaller store than yours also.

I would love to be posting numbers like you have in the past!

Yeah, I have been finding some listings that are way over average, and have been
working to adjust them. These are high for two main reasons, 1) The item was
new/and-or uncommon when I listed it, and it is now more common, and cheaper,
this is the most common reason, or... 2) The item IS uncommon, but not popular,
either because it wasn't ever in any set, or it isn't in a set that anyone
wants or is rebuilding.

People don't like the x20 minimums?

I have been eliminating those for higher priced items, even though I have only
received a couple of comments about them since I started doing it, 6 or 7 years
ago.

I too have also noticed a slump since the site redesign. To be expected I guess.

I would love to get back to them, someday .

My sales have gone down the toilet.. especially for parts.. I've sold $2
in parts since BL2.0... terrible.. and I also tripled the amount of parts I have.

It is hard to compare sales figures between different stores on BL ...every seller
he their own business model.

I loom at your store, see a moderate amount of pieces ...but not that big of
a selection. What is it 1500 lots for 85,000 parts ...or an average of 75 parts
per lot? ...fine if you pick the right lots at the right price for buyers who
want to purchase large lots ....not so good if you want to attract a buyer who
wants a little of this and a little of that ...times a few hundred lots.

I rarely get buyers wanting 100 of any one part ...but frequently get buyers
wanting to buy 1 or 2 parts in each of 100 or 200 lots ...easy to do when you
have over 10,000 lots for them to choose from.

Price, selection, volume as all as reputation .....and the all important factor
in all retail ....location, location, location.

My sales seem to have suffered since the upgrade. This is a vicious circle,
because I cannot purchase more Lego from other sellers without those sales.

In addition, today I passed on some pretty decent clearance Lego due to the uncertainty
of running a BL store. Normally, I wouldn't have even flinched at tossing
them in my cart to part out.

None of the promotions I've tried have made any positive impact.

I hear you ...we live reasonably close to a Kmart that is going out of business.
We did get some good deals there, but I'm sure they are even more discounted
now. But I can't justify spending more money right now.

It sucks...because I want to go just buy out the rest of the inventory...and
I can't.

Wish I knew! We don't have nearly the stock you have or the experience,
so I doubt I could think of anything you haven't. We've only been selling
for just over a year now, so it's hard to compare with last year, when we
were very new.

The last couple of months, we were averaging about an order each day. Maybe a
couple days in between, then maybe two or three in one day. So far in July,
we've only had two sales.

I know we haven't been adding anything lately (other life stuff is hectic
right now), but we still have more inventory currently than we did a few months
ago. I think our prices are pretty competitive, generally set to 5-10% off six
month average.

We had an unannounced sale not long after the new launch. It was significant,
20% off already pretty low prices, so we did get some orders from that. But
we can't keep prices that low all the time.

We'll keep plodding along, what else can you do?

Good luck!

I know there was an issue with the wanted lists by shop 'skewing' the
results, but as a smaller store (120K parts) I have been averaging one or two
orders daily.

I can't complain as this is not my only income, but I can empathize with
those who need the income!

Also, I agree with tEoS in regards to increasing inventory. I'm in a wait
and see mode even though a few posts have been made regarding store close outs.

There has been mention of more stores opening daily, but how many are actually
in it for the long haul or are they just trying to off load Lego here as the
fees are better than other sites?

I suppose it is like any other collectible - there will be high and low periods
of buying and selling.

Just my thoughts!

I have not observed the problem you're describing (but then I was not selling
parts here last year). My gut guess is that the 100K parts you moved were the
more desirable. Are most/all of those now sold out in your store ?

I have added many parts over the last year, and probably sold 200,000 or more,
I didn't look that number up yet. Yes, I probably have sold off some desirable
parts, but I still can't account for the 75% decline since the beginning
of June. Like I said, very little has changed, other than less parts added, (not
none, just less).
I added 20 of

Set No: 76053 Name: Gotham City Cycle Chase
*
76053-1 (Inv) Gotham City Cycle Chase
211 Parts, 3 Minifigs, 2016
Sets: Super Heroes: Batman II
in April, and 20 of

Set No: 76049 Name: Avenjet Space Mission
*
76049-1 (Inv) Avenjet Space Mission
492 Parts, 5 Minifigs, 1 Book, 2016
Sets: Super Heroes: Avengers
in June, among other
things, so plenty of deep lots. Compared to last year, I added about 200 smallish
sets, (less desirable parts) with about 35% more total parts, in that same time
period.

New stores have been opening since I started selling, that would not account
for a sudden 75% decline in sales, normally.

Has overall site traffic decreased?
Has the order volume decreased? Does FigBits have an updated chart through June?

Here are my sales, mostly sets and minifigs. I couldn't get a good comparison
with last year because I had my store closed most of the time. But this year
I have had a very consistent offering in my inventory since March. I'm seeing
a similar difference, so you might not be doing anything wrong...

2016 March sales - $1566 = 8 orders
2016 April sales - $2355 = 11 orders
2016 May sales - $1164 = 14 orders
2016 June sales - $192 = 6 orders
2016 July 1-11th sales - $58 = 1 order

Hey Darren
This has been a rougher month than normal, but here are a couple of ideas.
Look at the average $ amount of the orders from last year to this year. Our
quantity of orders has remained fairly steady, but the dollar amount is dropping.
The postal increase in January of this year. Our international sales are down
41% this year. Compare the number of international orders from this year to
last.

I forget what year we met (one of the Brickfest conventions in the early days),
so we go way back and have helped each other out from time to time. I remember
those little sets we sold in Chicago for you one year. Give me some time and
I will email you directly with some "not for public" numbers and more details
as to what we are trying.
Thanks
RJ

Any suggestions? I realize the switch-over would cause less orders for a bit,

Maybe it is just me but when I am shopping for pats and a store has where I have
to buy 20 of 1 part and maybe only need 1 or 2 I am going to move on to another
store. I realize some have lots of parts and do it this way, but to me it is
like I am being forced to buy more of a piece that I made not need

I totally understand that, and I realize that I may have lost some orders in
the past due to that. I have adjusted many of those 20x restrictions recently,
so to say that is why my orders are down is wrong. If anything, my orders should
be up, based on that. Before June of this year, most of my lots below $.50 each
where x20, but now most of my lots below $.15 are x20, and most lots above $.15
should be x2 or less. So, while I might still lose some orders due to requiring
low value parts be purchased 20 at a time, I still don't see why my store
has a sudden 75% drop.

Perhaps the new wishlist is ignoring any lots that require the purchase of multiple
parts per lot? So everything you list at x2 or more is not even being considered?
Maybe try a week with everything at x1 to see if things improve?

Nope.
I remember filing a bug because the Autofinder proposed me a seller who had 1
item, sold x2 and the UI wouldn’t let me buy the last one. (That is, the bug
was (still is?) that the UI wanted me to buy x2 even though there was only 1
to buy.)
So xN are proposed by the Autofinder.

That bug does not mean that there is not a restriction built into the query that
is limiting stores that utilize bulk, it just means that the portion of the code
that previously lowered the bulk from x2 to x1 when the minimum requirement wasn't
met for the purchase wasn't/isn't functioning.

I think the most obvious reason for some stores seeing much reduced levels of
orders is that they're not the cheapest out there. Some buyers may have been
loathe to try out unfamiliar stores in the past, sticking with a handful of proven
suppliers they knew and trusted, regardless of price (to a limit), but when faced
with an easy way to see that "New Store" is $x cheaper than "The Store I Go To
Every Time", suddenly they're prepared to take a risk.

If the majority of sellers set their prices at the 6-month average, that means
some stores still have inventory that's less than that, and they might be
picking up more of the buyers now that the Wishlist helps identify cheaper stores.
In the long term this will drive prices lower, significantly so in the short
term, but as those stores who can't compete on price drop out, the market
will eventually settle but with fewer sellers (and, presumably, everyone's
inventories will be % less valuable).

That bug does not mean that there is not a restriction built into the query that
is limiting stores that utilize bulk, it just means that the portion of the code
that previously lowered the bulk from x2 to x1 when the minimum requirement wasn't
met for the purchase wasn't/isn't functioning.

The fact that a store that utilizes bulk was selected by the Autofinder proves
that stores that utilize bulk are not totally excluded from the results.

(And, to be precise, it’s the “Edit” dialog that didn’t want to validate with
a qty of 1 for a x2 lot. I don’t know if it wouldn’t have let me fill my cart
if I hadn’t opened that dialog.)

Rereading my bug report, there also was this second paragraph:
“when the store has several lots for the same item, each with a different bulk
size (x1, x25, x100), the “select shop” dialog chooses the less expensive. That’s
not necessarily the best one: when I want 1 item, I’d rather buy it at 2 cents
than being forced to buy 100 at 1.5 cents.”
(It’s about several lots with different bulk sizes, not tiered pricing.)

So, again, stores with bulk were proposed and the cheaper price (by unit) was
chosen.

Now, maybe they fixed those bugs (I don’t know, things have changed: parts have
been bought, repriced, etc. and I didn’t encounter the problem since). And maybe
they fixed them by limiting the use of bulk lots. But considering the speed at
which bugs are fixed (and created ) and the fact that I filed the bug on the
11th of June, I’d think the impact on Darren’s sales from this limiting would
have occurred later than Doom’s Day (the 8th).

I'm sure you have your reasons for limiting your orders to x20. People who
look for smaller quantities of items do go to other sellers who accommodate their
wishes. I don't think you are losing that much business to other smaller
stores who make good money in that type of business. Whatever you do, don't
get desperate and reduce your prices. That hurts everyone. A lot of new stores
are doing that. You can even get pieces for $0.00 USD from foreign stores.

I've bought quite a bit of Lego in the past 2 years. But not since the switch-over.
Things are confusing. I've looked at the wanted lists, poked around a little,

I will eventually, but decided to take a break from bricklink for a while.

Hi Darren:

The newness of the site, the fact people are traveling much more this summer,
and the issues with "wanted lists" have impacted sales here greatly right now.
Its like a triple whammy!! The economy is NOT as good as we have been led to
believe either. There are a few exceptions in some areas of the country but
mostly in the western US only. The national unemployment rate is grossly underestimated
too. And last but certainly not least is the fact that gasoline prices being
so low, people are in their cars more. Not long ago gas here where I live was
$1.69 a gallon. Its up to $1.88 now but trending down again.

Anyways hang in there, it will get better eventually. I was planning to start
"part selling in my store" but family issues along with the above issues have
discouraged me in spending weeks/months listing 250K parts or more to get started.

Good luck getting back to "normal" selling.

You are not doing anything "wrong". Since people seem to be avoiding the 500-pound
gorilla in the room, I will say it... Your sales (and the sales of many other
sellers) are way way down for ONE reason. And that is because BL2.0 is now diverting
sales away from you to other "preferred" sellers. Sales you would have received
under the old BL system are now being sent elsewhere by the new BL system.

Think about it... Your sales crashed immediately after June 8th. So did the
sales of many other sellers. And it wasn't just the usual 10-20% decline
we normally see in June. No, it was a decline of 50-90% for many many sellers.

What happened on June 8th? There is your answer.

Hi Thor:

No doubt June 8th, BL 2.0 has had an impact, no discussion necessary. What I
would like to see more evidence about is this so-called "preferred seller" list
you and others have mentioned. I just find it hard to believe the new owner
used BL 2.0 to bias sales for many many sellers as this "prejudicial practice"
on his part would certainly impact his revenue first and foremost. But I have
no proof either way but logic says it is not prudent on the owner's part
to redirect sales to other sites or to a list of "preferred sellers on this site.
If he wanted a select few to do all the selling on his site, his profits would
crash as those selected sellers could not possibly handle the demand from any
reasonable point of view, selection, quantities, time to process and ship orders
whatever. But maybe there is a conspiracy on BL now, but I'm severely skeptical
of that belief. But I do believe BL 2.0 has changed/impacted the owner's
business model for this site greatly.

I don't know how the shops are determined on the front page, but we actually
got a reply from a customer in response to our warning of a possible CP strike:
"bricklink recommended you so ill go through with it" (a literal quote).

From this alone it shows that the four stores shown on the home page do have
some influence on the buying behavior of some BL shoppers. As anyone else, I
have no way of seeing how much orders are "diverted". The order volume (the number
of orders placed) doesn't appear to be affected by the new BL version, but
that doesn't say anything about order distribution, order value etc.

Niek.

I've always suspected searches could divert sales, but never worried about
it much since the price guide says it all--but concede different buyers use
different methods each with their own influences.

Typically, the more I list, the more I sell, period. I haven't listed much
at all lately so I don't really expect my stale inventory to attract much
business these days, but I'm sure variety + quantity is the key from past
experience.

In any case, simply logging into BrickLink to take a gander at my home page is
a real pain now requiring several attempts, different links, or additional patience.
Many of the basic pages take much longer to load--at least on initial attempts,
if at all sometimes (and this from different machines and networks altogether).
As a buyer, these sort of delays are enough to switch my interest to anything
else less frustrating.

I agree a global look at site sales (# orders and order totals) would determine
if folks are shopping elsewhere within BrickLink versus folks simply turning
away from the site.

All speculation on my part and apologies for it, but feel the feedback is warranted.

The big question is: is this
a) intentional,
b) the result of sloppy coding, or
c) the result of better buyer price comparison tools?

If it is a) or b) then I believe this is illegal in so many ways in so many places.
Thor could clarify if this practice would warrant someone opening a class action
suit based on transparency or deceptive business practices.

If it is a) or b) then I believe this is illegal in so many ways in so many places.
Thor could clarify if this practice would warrant someone opening a class action
suit based on transparency or deceptive business practices.

Be careful, be very very careful here. This is a slippery slope, the same kind
of slope that I watched people on Google Shopping all cry about how they thought
they should be on page 1, not buried back on page 6. It now appears that Google
is charging for preferred placement. IOW, all the kvetching made the system less
democratic.

To clarify, I'm not saying this is the practice here post-upgrade. I'm
stating that if a company does offer a service for fee that makes your store
"preferred" then they have to state that somewhere. If this is a new feature,
I'll buy in.

1. It was my impression (and this goes way back) that stores in certain front
page lists, got there because they had achieved certain fee numbers being remitted
(or something like that).

2. The GS thing (I alluded to above) is in actuality a bidding system. he who
bids the most, gets better placement, when certain search words match to those
in his product. So I can see a day where it becomes a bid placement (which is
not something that any of us really want to see happen).

Is there anyway, or should there be, for a store to see if they are on the front
page as a featured store? Also, does BL keep track somewhere, when a buyer enters
one of these stores, so they would know how well its working?

Contact the 4 featured nearby stores on your screen and ask if your store is
between their 4 featured stores.

Just looked at the featured store in my region. And bingo. Looking at their recent
feedback frequency there is a big surge in feedbacks the last weeks. Amazing.

FTL: "If you have unresolved problem orders within the past 6 months"

What does that mean … NSS or NRS ? I hope that is not referring to NPB orders
received.

Yeah, if being open for business 24/7 every day for 6 months straight witoutna
service disruption is what it takes to be favoured ....

guess we know what that says about BrickLink

Not a favoured venue I guess as they close unexpectedly ...all the time.

It also won't help if you're vocal on the forum, because the 'help'
text indicates that people stop listing you will also damage your chances of
being featured. I have 12 people who stop list me, all of them because they disagreed
with an opinion I expressed on the forum. It's as if BL don't want people
to debate, particularly if your opinion differs from the decade long consensus
that BL sellers must operate outside normal consumer laws. (ding, there's
stop lister number 13...)

Well I pretty much gave up hope of being favoured ...I don't like PP Onsite
and their ability to overwrite BL addresses.

It wouldn't be so bad if PP had 1/2 a clue as to what a valid address actually
looked like.

Canada Post and USPS (you know the people who actually deliver the mail) have
standards for how mail should be formatted, but PP Onsite has their own standard
...

So no favoured store listing for me 😱

Wait... Are you implying that we must accept PayPal on-site to be a "favored
store"?

Screw that! I always have had a terrible experience with that feature (as a buyer!),
and the regular forum complaints indicate I'm certainly not the only one.

Then I'll never be a "favored store" either, I won't make my buyers suffer
this PayPal on-site.

Yep in order to be a favoured store you must accept Onsite or Stripe

Maybe Kim is thinking of buying out PP and wants to double down on his return

Wait... Are you implying that we must accept PayPal on-site to be a "favored
store"?

Yes, according to this:

In order to be eligible to be featured, there are a list of requirements for
your store:

Upload a store logo. This is the representative profile image of your storefront.
You have at least 4 featured items. The first 4 featured lots designated
on your storefront will appear with your store’s feature.
Enable onsite payment. You must support at least one onsite payment method
(PayPal and/or Stripe). Learn more
Open for the past 6 months. New stores and recently closed stores are not
eligible, but we hope you’ll be featured soon!

Additionally, make sure you are in good standing with BrickLink and your customers.
If you have unresolved problem orders within the past 6 months, are blocked by
users, or overdue bills, you will decrease your chances of being featured.

Screw that! I always have had a terrible experience with that feature (as a buyer!),
and the regular forum complaints indicate I'm certainly not the only one.

Then I'll never be a "favored store" either, I won't make my buyers suffer
this PayPal on-site.

a) intentional,

c) the result of better buyer price comparison tools?

If it is a) or b) then I believe this is illegal in so many ways in so many places.
Thor could clarify if this practice would warrant someone opening a class action
suit based on transparency or deceptive business practices.

Be careful, be very very careful here. This is a slippery slope, the same kind
of slope that I watched people on Google Shopping all cry about how they thought
they should be on page 1, not buried back on page 6. It now appears that Google
is charging for preferred placement. IOW, all the kvetching made the system less
democratic.

Ray

Is there anyway, or should there be, for a store to see if they are on the front
page as a featured store? Also, does BL keep track somewhere, when a buyer enters
one of these stores, so they would know how well its working?

Dave

Contact the 4 featured nearby stores on your screen and ask if your store is
between their 4 featured stores.
It's a great feature to connect with the community nearby.

Are you suggesting that the featured stores shown varies by geography & distance
?

Ray

Yes: http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2443

I hope no one followed this advice http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=990693
in the admin thread about the new rollout. I feel it was irresponsible of admins
not to tell people not to close their stores.

If this has a strong effect, as one of the 12 I will reconsider my dislike. It
was supposed to be something between me and you, and not something that hurts
your status as a seller on BrickLink.

I oppose the behaviour that caused the dislike, but you should be able to voice
your opinion in debates without fear for your store.

I do see a disliked store being favoured when I am logged out, so I expect the
effect of a dislike is small.

I've had consistent sales before that date. I've had 1 since. There's
got to be something I need to be doing. Haven't quite figured it out. I
think you are right with the new system. Makes me wonder if some people have
seen an absolute skyrocket in sales since then, or if the entire site is suffering.
At least my minifigs have been doing well on eBay.

There were a couple stores that commented that they were experiencing heightened
sales post upgrade, they seem to be silent now. When I investigated their stores,
I noticed that they either weren't aware that a consolidate lots function
was available or, that was the advantage.

I feel there are two main factors at work, at least in my case. It seems that
the new BL doesn't really work well in terms of super-lots, and bulk lots.
My store had a lot of both, so this was likely about half of the reason for the
huge drop in sales. The second seems to be because I closed my store for a week...BEFORE
the changeover, and was not told that this would affect my sales for the next
6 months. Had I known of this new rule, I would have found a way to stay open.

We have no super-lots, and no bulk lots (X??), but we did just so happen to close
our store the day before the Change over, we went on our 2 week vacation. So
I suppose we are on the 6 month waiting list. We have had a few orders this
month, 7 in 10 days, which is not far off our average. Hoping that things will
pick up soon.

But those new rules only relate to being featured on the BL home page, yes?
Could that alone really make much difference? It would seem that it's the
search engine that has changed, and I don't know that the featured rules
have any bearing on that.

Oddly, I saw an initial uptick in sales immediately after the relaunch, and while
I continue to add inventory and adjust prices regularly, I've had zero sales
since July 1. Wonder if they're continuing to tweak the algorithms.

Not alone, but I believe many first-time visitors and new members are much more
likely to click on those links than more experienced users.

I have read here several times that the search engine (and wanted list searches)
have, indeed, changed. For example, when searching for the lowest or best price,
these searches gave strange results that often were not even close to the cheapest
or best price. So I have to suspect if even these searches are somehow being
coded to direct traffic to "preferred" stores.

Has Bricklink come out an addressed any of these issues? I admit, I haven't
really been paying attention with a busy summer and no bricklink orders, I haven't
been hovering around my computer. But I've been going back through the forum
posts and there seems to be quite a bit of rumbling, but I'm seeing nothing
from Bricklink addressing these issues. Maybe they are just happy making their
money (almost all posts note that the overall sales on Bricklink aren't suffering).

I know what you're saying. I understand why you are saying this. Recent experience
with Google Shopping is that they specifically don't want to tell anyone
what rules they are using, and probably because they will be fiddling/tweaking
constantly. The more a seller knows about the rules, the more they will try to
game the system to their advantage. It's human nature (like playing King
of the Hill). So I don't know where we go from here. Live with it, cross
fingers, & hope for the best I guess.

That's the thing. Brickwilbo pointed out this link in this thread

Yes: http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2443

For those who don't want to follow the link, it states that to be a featured
seller (which I believe with the new system is vitally important):

To increase your store’s chances of being featured at any time, all BrickLink visitors will see a different set of Stores on the homepage each day. When choosing the stores to display, we take into account the state, province, or country each visitor is accessing the site from (or their shipping address if logged in). This means local stores in your area may appear as well as frequently accessed stores outside of your state, province, or country.

In order to be eligible to be featured, there are a list of requirements for your store:

Upload a store logo. This is the representative profile image of your storefront.
You have at least 4 featured items. The first 4 featured lots designated on your storefront will appear with your store’s feature.
Enable onsite payment. You must support at least one onsite payment method (PayPal and/or Stripe). Learn more
Open for the past 6 months. New stores and recently closed stores are not eligible, but we hope you’ll be featured soon!

Additionally, make sure you are in good standing with BrickLink and your customers. If you have unresolved problem orders within the past 6 months, are blocked by users, or overdue bills, you will decrease your chances of being featured.

So point by point.

Taking in account a store's location seems good on the surface, but here
in the states, if I'm in Tennessee, I'm less likely to buy from a Tennessee
store because I'll likely have to pay state sales tax. If I buy from Kentucky,
I'll likely not have to pay those taxes. I know the government wants their
cut, but the fact of the matter is if you buy online from someone not in your
state, they don't have to charge sales tax. So by making stores in your
state featured, you are hurting the buyers. I'm in Nebraska, my featured
stores today are from Nebraska (3) and 1 from California.

Another note on location, I'm from Nebraska, do you know how many sales I've
made in state? One. Only One. That includes my many bricklink sales, and thousands
of eBay sales. So because I'm in a state that doesn't seem to buy much
LEGO online, I'm hosed. I feel at least in the states, they need to at least
do it regionally.

You need to upload a logo. Simple enough. I have no issues here, except when
bricklink updated their site, this should have at very least been in an email
to ALL sellers.

you have to have 4 featured items. ok. weird, but whatever.

Onsite payment. fine.

Here's where I have a big problem. you have to have been open for the past
6 months. Had I known about this, I would not have closed my store for vacation
in the first week of June. But what does this do for sellers? I makes it so
that under no conditions will I close my store. That's not good for buyers.
I think what I'll end up doing is increasing my prices by 10000%. That
will throw off the price guide averages, but if those are the rules to this new
game, that's what I'll do. I get that BL wouldn't want to feature
a store that is closed 2 weeks out of every month, but to penalize a store that
closes for a weeks vacation for SIX MONTHS is ridiculous.

The unresolved problems with buyers is kind of confusing. Does that include
NPB?

blocked by users? Seems shady, and what if I decide to just block my competition
from buying from me? That seems super shady.

So these are the new rules? I'll play by them. I think they seriously need
to rethink what they've got going on here.

It seems like more people will either just leave their store open or set the
minimum buy higher than the cost of their inventory.

that's a better solution than raising all the prices, I guess.

It could also set potential buyers off and cause them to least favorite you.
There really isn't a win.

Or change your shipping destinations to only go to some country with no BLers.
We changed from shipping worldwide to only shipping to the Cook Islands a couple
of weeks ago when tere were issues with Canada Post.

Darren

Your price are high
All of you seeing a drop of orders have higher then average prices
I never search for parts in US from the moment someone ask $16 for postage to
send 6 grams (2x 73590c02a)

I believe that now with BL2 it's more easy for buyers to find cheaper stores

As a buyer the new system is much better to find cheap stores.

I like the new system. Much better for me as a buyer.

I only want to buy from a shop that is overall cheaper than average on a order.
New system tells me this

So the answer is to keep lowering the prices until you're the cheapest? In
no time you will have trouble finding the parts you need as shops close up and
move to greener pastures. Noone wants to work for free.

It's called capitalism

I find 6 month average price a grotesque way to keep the price up
I do not enter the parts market because i think is very hard to compete with
stores what have hundreds of thousands of parts , all my parts are there just
for helping people to fill up their order up to £10 to don't pay the fee

For me Bricklink is an experiment , i can easily switch to eBay where i can sell
all my stock at higher price and quicker but i hate eBay for their huge fees
I have a permanent job and i also work part-time I really don't care how
much i sale here and i will be never be dependent on Bricklink or eBay and i
hopes all of you will realized that everything have an end even your ,,successful,,
business on Bricklink

No, I think you have socialism confused with capitalism. In socialism you work
for free

I get what you are saying and I too run this as a hobby after hours and I am
therefore not affected in the same way as a full-time seller.

I price my parts after supply and demand using the sales average as a guideline.
Some parts are way below average and some prices are slightly above.

I don't charge $16 for 6 grams. I would charge $13, but that is what I would
pay for postage, not much I can do about that.

Honestly, the PO rate hike did affect my sales, but only a little. One in six
orders are from overseas right now, which is about the same as before. The orders
from overseas are generally bigger $ amounts, I assume to get more for their
money.

I don’t think it has been mentioned before, but several lots for the exact same
parts at different prices for no visible reason is a strong repellent.

(E.g. from my WL: Flat Silver 78c02, LBG 4592c02, Black 43719.)

This puts me off as well. Having to sort through multiple lots of the same part
trying to figure out the differences is never fun, and I've emptied many
carts because because of it. Sellers, pay attention to how you present your inventory
and consolidate your lots!

But in all honesty, your 20x minimum buys would have me clicking the back button
before I even noticed your unconsolidated lots, so there's also that...

Thank you for your comment, this is certainly something I will address, although
it still doesn't address the fact that my orders dropped off so much. Sifting
through all the replies and PMs, I believe the real answer, (at least in my case),
is that the new system doesn't like the bulk amounts, and many buyers are
being diverted away somehow. If that is the case, I should be able to fix that.

Bulk is a huge limiting factor with the new WL. Like you, I used them to place
a value on time for very low priced items. After the upgrade there was an immediate
90% reduction in sales. I removed the bulk limit from my store and sales picked
back up. Not to where they were prior to the upgrade when we actually considered
going FT on BL, but back to the point where it will cover 2x college tuitions
in a dozen years.

I've been experimenting with the bulk since then by having multiple lots
in my store of the same element and placing the lot with a bulk, even if two,
set lower in price. The lot without a bulk wins every time even when the buyer
is purchasing the same quantity as the bulk amount on the less expensive lot.

I'm not sure if the fix for the bug that SylvainLS reported made things better
or worse as this fix could be the limiter. A very easy, but poorly thought out,
fix for the error he described would be to just exclude lots with bulk from the
WL search.

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed but you can no longer search a store
by bulk as you used to be able to. I'm not sure if this is a move away from
bulk by the BL dev team or that someone didn't understand how to recreate
the code and just removed the functionality.

Not trying in insult anyone, this is just my opinion based upon observations
of recent history on how fixes have been rolled out. If there were actual real
world business communication from BL concerning bugs or fixes or anything for
that matter, there would be less judgment on practices. The fact that we still
don't have the most basic of basics in a known bug list speaks volumes.

When you talk about 'bulk', are you really talking about x50 or are you
talking about tiered prices ? There is overlap in those two subjects.

When you talk about 'bulk', are you really talking about x50 or are you
talking about tiered prices ? There is overlap in those two subjects.

What?! I thought that was a problem that got taken care of soon after 2.0 came
out. I know I have placed at least one order after 2.0 rolled out, and everything
went smoothly. Are you getting an error message?

I think he isn't placing orders because he doesn't have extra money
because sales are slow. Unless your reply is sarcasm?

No sarcasm meant. The way it's worded, it sounds like he's having a
technical problem when trying to checkout, as opposed to lack of funds. Could
be either one I suppose.

I meant I haven't had enough in sales to warrant spending $ on Bricklink
for restock purposes, or for my own amusement for that matter.

My sales dropped 30 - 40 % in June. July is even slower. But I had closed my
shop from March to April. Maybe that is one reason. But May was still a good
month though slower than before closing.

Last year was 'exceptional' for my own store, compared to 2013 and 2014,
july 2016 is quite 'normal'.
I said quite a while ago the LEGO 'parts market' is becomming an air
bubble filled with LEGO (and I do have data to back it up), too many stores trying
to make 'extra' money, creating an 'non balance' between items
for sales and actual 'movement' of items, even with the growth of potential
buyers. USA sellers are the first to notice, higher shippingcosts towards 'abroad'reducing
the flow towards the rest of the world), a stronger USD (nice nice, but it make
sit less interesting to buy from abroad), and a bunch of EU sellers 'leveling'
(with even cheaper shippingocsts 'abroad' compared to 'national'
in the US). Take a look at the top 60 stores: the past 2 years nearly 80% of
them are 'EU' based stores, and they are catching up fast...
But from my point of view, it is only the tip of the iceberg we are running into...
2 choices: quit or change (the 'change' can involve several little adjustments)

Here is the problem.

I spoke with several shop owners after the side update and realized three different
techniques to handle the changes with pretty different outcomes:

1) Being overwhelmed with a slump the first days after the update because buyers
needed time to figure out the new system. Inefficient money calculation and fear
hindered to buy more stuff, additional drop off in orders, less money to buy
new stuff and so on. They are now thinking about closing their stores.

2) Buying out lots in other stores to give buyers more variety or the item depth
they need for their projects. They work pretty fine and celebrate many additional
orders and also many possibilities to put their additional income in.

3) Looking for other selling sides, opening stores there and whining in the BL
forum how bad bricklink is. The other sides have some growths so maybe this technique
is the most successfull in the long run if too many people are stuck in 1.

All three are spirals in my opinion.

If you want to leave spiral 1, put your oldest and least interesting lots on
sale.
Sell this bound money and buy new stuff. Buy in other shops, support their business
and help them out of their swamps.

Nobody would want to leave spiral 2, right?

For spiral 3, just identify those people and ignore them. Or jump on the hype
train and hope that enough people decide like you do.

I wish you all the best!

As a buyer, not a seller, I can offer a suggestion why some stores have experienced
a reduction in sales traffic.
Corner shop vs Supermarket.
The new site makes it very easy for a buyer to auto-search for a store or stores
to fulfill their wanted list with the best prices or fewest orders. This wasn't
so easy to do previously.
Surely this feature will have the effect of directing sales to stores with the
biggest range (most lots), as those stores can fulfil a wanted list the best.
The stores who have seen sales slumps are stores that are not the best deal for
the buyer, but were getting sales based more on manual selection, location or
other factors.
I personally spend considerable time shopping around, and using Brickficiency,
so I don't think it changes my own buying pattern.

Is brickficiency working again? I had heard it stopped with the new site.
