Peeron lists the Dark Gray one as 350cm while the cut parts in the instructions
sum up to 364cm.
Peeron lists the Trans-Clear one as 70cm while the cut parts in the instructions
sum up to 62cm.
The set came with (very) Dark Gray and either Trans-Clear or Light Gray hoses.
The dark hoses in 90s Technic sets are neither Black nor Dark Gray.
The actual color is a very, very dark Gray, almost Black but not as true Black
as the hoses in 80s sets.
They also have a shiny finish like the blue ones, while the black ones are more
matt.
The Light Gray hoses version of 8868 is supposed to be the earlier version.
Determined length for the regular parts and counterparts are currently not added
to the inventory because most of the required lengths do not match current catalog
entries.
The Hose, Pneumatic 4mm D. category in the catalog needs a general overhaul in
regards to the lengths.
The needed lengths for set 8868 are:
1x 39cm Black
1x 37cm Black
2x 36cm Black
1x 35cm Black
1x 33cm Black
1x 22cm Black
1x 20cm Black
1x 19cm Light Gray / Trans-Clear
1x 18cm Black
1x 12cm Light Gray / Trans-Clear
1x 10cm Black
4x 8cm Black
2x 7cm Black
3x 6cm Black
4x 6cm Light Gray / Trans-Clear
2x 5cm Black
1x 3cm Light Gray / Trans-Clear
2x 2cm Black
2x 2cn Light Gray / Trans-Clear
Early instructions show 1x Black 16cm instead of 1x Black 18cm and 2x Black 20cm
instead of 1x Black 20cm and 1x Black 22cm.
My (early) copy of the instructions show the 16cm and 2x 20cm hoses on page 4/5
(note that page 2&3 are missing (not scanned) in the web versions) and has a
factory glued-in correction sheet for page 38 (the old wrong page is still under
it).
Pages 2&3 (not scanned in the web version) have general technic instructions,
written in many languages on page 2 and pictures for it on page 3.
