| I looked through the open catalog requests and there doesn't seem to be one
for this. It could be a site development issue, but I'm not sure so I'm
making it a catalog request.
Currently BrickLink uses an unholy mix of the following numbers for books:
BL numbers:
13-digit ISBNs:
10-digit ISBNs:
TLG website numbers:
LEGO Education website/catalog numbers:
Item numbers printed on the item:
TLG identifying item numbers:
and Thor knows what else I've missed. This makes the Books section of the
BrickLink catalog confusing and difficult to navigate or work on (as evidenced
by someone recently submitting several books which already had catalog entries).
I've been told that alternate item numbers aren't allowed for books.
Fine, let's change that. Some books have alternate item numbers and should
be searchable and findable by any of those numbers.
There are 3,000 books in the catalog and volunteers willing to do a little work
to make those entries more complete. It won't be so easy if we wait to add
the alternate item number field until we have two or three times that many books
(or more) in the catalog.
Thank you for considering this request.

It is a development issue, so I have moved this request to suggestions and voted
Yes.

Thanks, guy. I've decided to stop working on books altogether until the
site developers get this feature added. The combination of no alternate item
number field and no ability to create relationship matches between books make
BrickLink book work too frustrating.
I doubt that much of their revenue comes from book sales, so it's probably
not very high on their list of priorities.

It is NOT a technical issue, it is by design.

Thank you for this and for the other work you're continually doing behind
the scenes to improve the catalog and inventory systems.
Little improvements like this have been needed for many, many years and you've
made many of them since you've been there.
