If we are going to change this, I think we also need to change the whole group
of Earth Orange Fabuland parts (7 of them, from 1982-1987):

Part No: 4332 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Broom
*
4332 Minifigure, Utensil Broom
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

Part No: 749 Name: Fabuland Container, Side Bags / Saddlebags

Part No: fabei7 Name: Fabuland Utensil Carpet Beater
*

Part No: fabek4 Name: Fabuland Utensil Paint Brush
*

*
fabeh8 Fabuland Utensil Basket
Parts: Fabuland

Part No: 4424 Name: Container, Barrel Half Large
*
4424 Container, Barrel Half Large
Parts: Container

Part No: 4794a Name: Fabuland Utensil Oar with Ring Handle
*
4794a Fabuland Utensil Oar with Ring Handle
Parts: Fabuland
For sure Lego did not buy plastic pelets in Fabuland Orange for the sake of only
one part.

Does anybody oppose / confirm this color shift? Does somebody have a majority
of these parts to confirm they are indeed the same color? It would also be nice
to have actual pictures of the barrel and saddlebags. The Ldraw images we have
now look a little too dark.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few of those are Fabuland Orange, but I wouldn't
jump to conclusions yet. The saddlebags and broom (at least the broom in the
Harry Potter set) are definitely Earth Orange. I can add a new photo.

Fabuland Orange was also used for the Fabuland lion's head, I think. Also
a Duplo pilot's hat. But there are a few colors that we know for a fact were
only ever used for one part...

How about this for a proposal - Lego started with Fabuland Orange in 1982 with
separate parts (perhaps even back in 1979 with the heads) and then at some point
during the time these special orange parts were in production (through at least
1986) the color was switched. Look at the difference in color between the heads
on these versions of the Fabuland lion:

Minifig No: fab7e Name: Fabuland Lion - Lionel Lion (Mayor)
*
fab7e Fabuland Lion - Lionel Lion (Mayor)
Minifigures: Fabuland

Minifig No: fab7g Name: Fabuland Lion - Lionel Lion (Mayor), with Necklace and White Hat

One would need to compare actual color, having both items in hand, as based on
an image (made by 2 different people and therefore 2 different pictures quality
and colorbalance) comparison is IMHO impossible...

That might be a starting point for further research, but not for actual color
changes.

LEGO's color history is quite complicated, and often not as logical as you
would expect.
