| Hi gang!
I think it would be nice if a buyer MUST change status from "shipped" (when recieving
an order) to "completed" before making a NEW order
It's okay that a buyer do not wish to leave feedback (allthough I don't
understand why as I allways leave feedback once I've been paid - which anyway
can always be chnaged in 30 days if the buyer is .. hmm .. problematic)
But I DO like to know if the order have been recieved
But currently I have several orders that still say "shipped". I do not know if
the buyer have actually recived the order, or is satisfied
This annoys me a great deal!
What do you think? I'd be okay with this as buyer, but then again I allways
leave feedback
Cheers,
Ole

If I understand you correctly a buyer could only have one open order at any time?
I usually have more.

Sorry Ole, I voted no as a seller.
I do not like the idea of putting something in the way of making orders, I would
like the opposite
That would mean a regular buyer has to wait for his order to arrive before making
another order? We've had over the years many buyers who've placed several
orders in a week.
I also don't want to burden buyers with having to do this, it is another
thing that you just don't have to do as a buyer on-line elsewhere... you
buy, pay, get stuff, that's it. Anything else is optional like FB, etc.
We have thousands of orders, many purged, where the status never got beyond shipped.
I personally have no problem with that.

Ole,
I see your point, but I also agree with Robert. This seems to only bug the seller.
Another way to look at it is if you haven't heard back from the buyer about
the order, then more than likely they received the order and were satisfied enough
to not be bothered with following up with you or the order status.
As others have said, we all get these, and I must confess that sometimes it takes
me a while to change the status to completed, but I change it to received as
soon as possible. Many times, I get orders and I don't get around to checking
the contents for days or weeks at a time, as I only take out what I need and
deal with the rest (filler items) at a later point. I know, my personal Lego
collection needs to be sorted, but I lack the space at the moment. I hope this
changes within the next year, but now it's not a high priority. Sorry, got
off the track.

Hi Ole, not silly, rarely does everyone use BL in the same way such that their
suggestions fit with everyone else. Most of my suggestions have met the same
sort of response, it's a complicated site.

I would suggest finding a way to not make it annoy you.
One idea is, once you have shipped an order, "file" it so that you don't
have to see it anymore.

| I too have many orders never changed from shipped to received or completed by
the buyers. I set them to completed when they are 1 month old for European orders
and after 2 months for world wide orders. And then file them. I too was a little
annoyed when I was a new seller that buyers did not take the time to finish the
transaction, but have stopped letting it affect me. When it comes to FB I always
post FB (whenorder is apid) on buyers who do the same. If repeat buyers don't
give FB i do not either.

| When two people expect different results from a process, it can be frustrating
for both. But everything else being equal, I would say that doing nothing is
less annoying than doing something.
What do I mean?
Some of the orders that I place on BrickLink are for parts that I intend to resell
in my BrickLink store or elsewhere. I use that Completed status to mean that
I have reviewed the order and "put it away" -- added it to my stock and listed
it for sale.
If a seller changes the status to Completed, it messes that process up for me.
I do realize that this is my issue, and I can simply find a different way to
keep track. But having a seller change the status to Completed is an action that
they are taking, which happens to cause me some small grief. The reverse situation,
where a buyer does NOT set the status to Completed, can equally cause some small
grief to a seller who depends on that status, but in that case it seems less
annoying to me because it is the *absence* of action that causes it.
Which is a long way of saying: sellers, please do not set the order status to
Complete. Let your buyers do that.

| Think of it from the other angle, if a buyer didn't receive their order,
what's their likely course of action?
1) contact you
2) leave negative feedback
3) file a paypal claim (if applicable)
I'd say in 99.999% of cases, if none of those three things happen, they probably
got their order.
Now, you can be proactive and contact them and say "Hi, just following up to
make sure you got your order ok. I've left feedback on your account for
you, I'd appreciate it if you could do the same using the link http://www.bricklink.com/feedbackPost.asp?id=
(and then order #) "
This approach works for me sometimes, but those very occasional buyers don't
care about feedback.

You're right
But I do not want to annoy my buyers. Allthough in one order I did just that.
We had a load of emails back and forth (regarding the condition of parts - it
was a good conversation) and once my buyer got hit order - no communication/no
feedback at all
I'd _really_ like to know if he is pleased with his parts, so I can sell
similar parts in the same condition on BL
I've send him two emails, no response
Such is selling on BL I guess
Many thanks for your reply
Cheers,
Ole

| Sorry Ole, but I have to say no for the same reasons others have said no.
I handle this by simply marking the order completed myself after one of these
things happen:
1. The buyer leaves me feedback
2. The buyer emails me saying they received the order and are happy with it.
3. A long enough time has passed that one can be 99.99% certain they received
the order and have no problems with it (as noted by Brett).
I know there are some here who say sellers should not do this. But BrickLink
allows sellers to do this; so I do it when I feel it is appropriate. It is my
business; I run it the way I think is best. I have done this thousands of times
and never had any complaints or problems.

| Seems the BL rules consider it an obligation of buyers to update status:
Buyer and Seller Action Items
Buyer and Seller each have tasks to do during the lifetime of an order. These
tasks called "Action Items" are located by default on your myBrickLink page (if
there are any). The following is an explanation of what each action item means:
Buyer:
Pay for an Order - Instructions on where to send payment are located on the invoice
that you receive from the seller. Checking the checkbox and clicking the "submit
changes" button on your orders placed page under column "Paid" will change the
payment status to "Paid". The myBrickLink action item includes orders where the
order status is Ready, order has been invoiced and payment status is none.
Change Order Status to Completed - When you have verified the contents of your
package and consider the order completed. You can also change order status to
Received when you have received your package (but have not yet verified its contents
or there is a problem). The option to change order status on your Orders Placed
page appears when order has status of Shipped or Received. The myBrickLink action
item includes orders you placed where the order status is Shipped or Received.
Post Feedback (optional) - Post Feedback to your seller when you receive your
items. The myBrickLink action item includes orders you placed where the order
status is Completed and you have not yet posted feedback.

| Thank you for the link. Those clearly indicate that it is the Buyer who should
change the status to Completed.
I share Marc's reasons for having it this way. I will mark an order received,
but not completed, until I've finished checking and storing it. When a Seller
comes along and changes it to completed for me, it is annoying. Also, if I have
contacted the Seller about the order, seeing it still at received might give
me an indication that the Seller did not receive my message.
Even though I don't have a PayPal account, I am aware of the new length of
time allowed for filing a dispute. This is another factor that must be considered
before a Seller marks an order Complete. As I understand it, a PayPal Buyer
has a longer time to verify a package before notifying the Seller about a problem.
I would say that since BrickLink seems to still allow a Seller to mark an order
Completed, I would not be so annoyed if they choose to do it just before the
order is about to be purged. Although, I think if I were a Seller, I would want
to have some idea of the number of Buyers who don't fulfill their obligations.
Maybe a designation of who marked the order completed, B for Buyer or S for
Seller would be a good suggestion. This would help those like Marc and I, and
also let Sellers keep track (even after purging) of which orders they marked
completed. It could also let the Buyer know the Seller considers the order complete,
and may not have received the Buyer's message about a problem.

Cheers,
Ole

If they had this rule, back when I was placing a LOT of orders at the same time
(often across multiple sellers), it would have saved me a LOT of money.
Often my building plans would change, after ordering the parts, but before receiving
the parts. So if I had been forced to spread those orders out, over more time,
I would have spent less money.
So based on how this rule would have benefited my finances, I considered voting
Yes.
But then I started thinking about the effect it would have had on my creativity.
I think it would have frustrated the creative part of my brain, not being able
to order the parts it thought it needed to build what it was imagining.
So in the end, I voted no.

| No, for obvious reasons.
But maybe there should be a percentage of completed orders on a buyers feedback.
If they get lots of orders that they cannot be bothered to mark received / completed,
then maybe sellers should start insisting on tracking for those orders, since
so many to that particular buyer do not get received or completed
Also it would be good if BL didn't purge any non-completed orders, as they
are by definition not complete yet. Although saying that, it would be good if
they didn't purge any orders.
