At time of checkout there is a section where the buyer is shown "I WILL PAY IN"
. There are radio buttons to select to choose different currencies if offered
in that store.
I propose adding some text to indicate the amount shown is NOT the grand total
and shipping costs are in addition to this amount. I know it is not overly common
to have a buyer pay this amount before invoicing but it does happen and this
simple added note could help prevent a buyer from thinking shipping is included
in the amount shown at checkout.

In the long run this kind of situation will dissapear with autcheckout/instant
payment

In the mean while I suggest to add a note to your order notifications (buyers
get them in their inbox):

http://www.bricklink.com/mailTempDetail.asp?ID=0&viewFrom=O

Something like this (my order notifications start with this):

**************************
This is NOT an invoice, this is simple notification you placed an order. Please
do NOT sent payment until you receive an invoice. You should receive your invoice
with payment instructions within 3 days (usually 24 hours). If you have not heard
from us within this time frame please use the contact feature through your order
form to request an invoice. Thank you!
**************************
If you add to your order after the first invoice (additional batch), please wait
untill you get a new invoice before transfering the payment, as shippingcosts
might change. If payment is send before we send a new invoice and this results
in a secondary payment to cover additional shippingcosts, an additional fee of
0.35 Euro will be added.
Thanks for understanding!
**************************

adding a note will not do a thing to show the buyer at time of checkout that
what is called TOTAL is Not, simply adding a line of text would

Agreed. It can be as simple as

"I will pay in:
*(whatever currency/amount) plus shipping.
*(whatever other currency amount) plus shipping."
