Suggestion: Ask the community for feedback before implementing any new features
or creating new partnerships. It seems obvious that the BL admins are out of
touch with what direction the community would like to see BL go, so this would
be a great way to prevent asinine decisions.

Can I vote yes more than once? Can I add one from BL's book and include links
to outside sources that want to partner in voting yes?

Don't mistake a few outraged forum posts for "the direction the community
would like to see BL go."

I think it is a great idea! Anything that can drive more traffic to Bricklink
is a good thing. What does Bricklink get out of the deal though? Do we get
more links and advertisements from Brickpicker?

I think the question is how many people invest in LEGO to the point that they
register with brickpicker to view the data more than 5 times BUT have never heard
of Bricklink. Because that's the impact if there will be any impact on BL
sales. I could be wrong, but I suspect the vast majority of registered users
of Brickpicker already know BL exists.

I guess it won't hurt, but I don't see where it will really drive users
to BL.

Voted no. None of us are shareholders or part owners.

Their site, their decisions. This is not a democracy.

Personally I think that it is a good idea. The owners and those that run this
site have a much different view of what goes on than the hundreds and thousands
that use this site. There knowledge and expertise is what a year of doing this
allows them. There are many here that have been here over 16 years running a
business. If you go to the doctor and you have two choices of physicians to
diagnose you, do you choose the one with one year of experience who owns the
clinic or the older doctor that has been practicing for 16 years and is an expert
in the field while the other is an expert at running a business?
You forget the point of the post. Ask the community about the change, they do
not have to take the feedback, they can go on with their decision regardless
of everyone's opinion. The original poster said nothing about anyone forcing
them to make a decision, just to hear out those that use the site.
Nothing lost either way, it is still their dictatorship. Opinions hurt no one
and they do not force the dictators to go one way or another. I forgot which
president would have his cabinet vote on a point and afterwards tell them that
his vote is the only one that counts.

If that doctor went and asked 2 patients out of his 5,000 patients do you think
that would be an effective sampling of his patient base?

Also just wanted to add something I have said many times before.

Bricklink is in a no-win situation here

Some number of people have shown that no matter what Bricklink does, those people
can (and will) find something to complain about. I might act exactly the same
way if I were in BL's situation.

Of course not, but if those two patients represented more of them maybe. Also
the ones on the forum are generally the largest sellers and buyers.
Like I said they do not have to take any advise or act on the feedback. It is
nothing more that opinions and that cannot hurt anyone. Why do you think that
it is wrong to ask an opinion? Especially one that only gives advise.

People on the forum are not the largest buyers or sellers.

No, but forum users represent a reasonable cross section of small and large in
both buyers and sellers. There is also nothing to say that if consulting they
have to use the forum, there are other methods, including contacting selected
or random individuals inviting them to do a survey and of course discussing ideas
at events. The latter of course means they can talk to people who are not current
bricklink customers, we may probably never know for sure but its possible this
idea was brought out of consultation to find out why some big buyers or sellers
are not using bricklink.

It is actually normal for companies to run pilots, betas and trials before releasing
new products or services. I took part in market research relating to the dulux
paint pod several months before it was released.

To use John's example, my local doctors consulted patients before changing
their appointment system.

UK Government frequently consults on proposed changes to the law and how best
to implement changes that are coming whether we like it or not.

No sellers have experience running bricklink, just their own store.

So your doctor analogy is not relevant.

Maybe so in your eyes, but still what is wrong with asking for feedback. No
one person has all the answers, if they did then why have the suggestion function?

Their site, their bad decisions. This is not a regular company, BL does not own
anything as such

It's not like they can fire unhappy workers and just hire a bunch of new
ones while their machines never stop making products

No BL users = no BL = no revenue for Kim

So yeah, it would be very much in BL's interest to "ask for feedback before
implementation"

Cheers,

Ole

I believe most would call it market research.
It isn't a definitive part of such but would be additional information on
which to base your decisions (BL).
As many would say,it doesn't hurt to ask and is if nothing else, good P.R.

I voted No, but for a different reason.

Sometimes business decisions need to be kept secret during the negotiation phase,
to have the most impact.

But I agree that it is the shareholders (owners and part owners) that get to
decide these things. They also get to use their own judgement to decide which
things should be presented to the community before implementation.
