For the record, here are some scans of the first version of instructions 6033579,
courtesy of member Legoandduplo. The second version has the number 6050880.

If anybody has an idea on how to better handle the alternates in this situation,
please let me know.

Since you asked:
I would definitely try to find a techical solution for adding Alternate items
without a match item - the "is in the set or sometimes not" case is not properly
reflected by the current database setup, I'm afraid.

Goal: Leave out the match ID 2 for the regular 4589b and remove the additional
4589b in the Alternate section at the same time - why tie two IDENTICAL items
to the only relevant part for this variant - 85861 in yellow? This will only
indicate where the part is used, but has to practical purpose from the inventory
point of view (unless I missed someting here, of course).

I would also move the extra 85861 to the Alternate section as well, stating in
the comments that one of them is extra - keep in mind that the selection of the
variant during parting out should affect both regular and extra parts for obvious
reasons.

An additional section "Extra Alternate Items" would be a theoretical option here,
of course...

Jan

yes, you have my vote

there are more sets with the 'extra' as alternate because a 2nd version,
also 'only 1 set' versions have some alternate items but no extra was
count as MID.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll need to examine all the various solutions
(including yours) and see how we can proceed in the best way. One of the important
factors is how the inventory appears on the current partout screen.
