My set came with 5 x Red 3048a. "Slope 45 2 x 1 Triple without Inside Bar
or Bottom Stud Holder", not 3048c. What's the right answer here? I'm
trying to eventually sell this as a complete set. It's possible, but unlikely
that what I have is from a different set. I have so many. The copyright date
on the box is 1989. Thanks.

What is the 4-digit number printed on one of the transparent seals? That gives
the production date of the set.

Hello SezaR, I finally got around to this. Could you take a look at the pictures
and let me know? I have no idea how to interpret this date code. Thank you for
your help.

The code basically says that this set was produced in the 30th week of 1989.

Cheers,

Just spoke with Lego Support. I was told the first two digits are the week number,
the last digit is the last number of the year, and the third digit is unknown.
So 3059 means that it was manufactured the week of July 24th, 1989. Does this
mean I can use 3048a to complete the set?

Well, it means 30th week of the year 1989 which starts at 24th.
Since this set was released in 1989, it seems you had an early copy of this set,
which came with early versions of these two red slopes (without bottom tube).
Only a few months or year after, TLG changed the mold of these slopes and added
bottom tube to these slopes and so, later productions of this set came with later
variations of these slopes, i.e. those with bottom tubes.

Does this mean I can use 3048a to complete the set?

You could always sell them with the slopes you had.
The inventories on bricklink are very accurate but not always perfectly correct,
including all variations,...
I just submitted a change based on your finding, to add red 3048c as regular.
Thanks!

  The set inventory includes 4 x 3044a {Red Slope 45 2 x 1 Double without Inside
Bar or Bottom Stud Holder} and NOT 3044b {Slope 45 2 x 1 Double with Inside Bar}.
Doesn't make much sense to do this and then not make an allowance for 3048a.

Actually it depends. It could make sense sometimes. The inventories reflect what
people find in a new copy of sets. It is theoricaly possible some copies or all
copies of a set came with 3044b (with inside bar), but with 3048c (without
inside bar).

TLG did not think "oh my God! how can I include slopes with inside bar 3044b
and also slopes without inside bar 3048a". It goes like this:

Let's say for a set that was released in 1990, they had left in their warehouse,
- 5 barrels of 3048c (without inside bar),
- 1 barrels of 3044a (without inside bar),
At the same time they had already decided to produce these slopes with inside
bar, but they already had few barrels of these slopes without inside bars. Don't
forget: "TLG never throw anything!". So they started to use the slopes
they already had. The set was produced for two years 1990-1991.
- In the first year of production 1990, the early productions came with 3048c
and 3044a.
- Later in 1990, they ran out of 3044a because they had left only one barrel
so all the later copies came with 3044b (with inside bar) and 3048c (without
inside bar).
That is how finally, no copy of this set came with 3048a but some copies came
with 3044b.

To make it clear these things are not just theory, see the set

Thank you for that thoughtful reply SezaR. I am learning! It makes sense that
TLG would build like this. I plan on selling my sets on BL, and I want to make
sure I am following the set inventory when completing my sets by using parts
from either the regular or alternate lists (if any). Just to be clear, the part
in my set is 3048a not 3048c. The 'a' version has no inside bar, and
the 'c' version has the bar. I wasn't sure if you meant to say 3048a
when you said "I just submitted a change based on your finding, to add red
3048c as regular." It seems like it might make more sense to add 3048a as
an alternate and keep 3048c as regular since it looks like 3048c was the more
common part, but I'm new here so not too familiar with this whole process...

If you say to TLG this does not make sense, they would answer "It made sense.
We sold the sets, kids and parents were happy and satisfied and we made money
and grew our business"!

Yeah, correct. I wanted to add 3048a, but as regular because
3048a without bottom tube
came first so it should be added as regular.

99.99% buyers don't care about these types of variations between parts and
the majority of them don't even know about these details.
Even if you have an incorrect variation, you can still add a note in the remark
section of a set so that the buyer knows what he gets before his commit to purchase.
Most important thing is that if the set is complete, the stickers of the main
model should be included and electric parts to work properly. Printed parts should
be in good condition, otherwise a note is needed. If there is a yellowed part,
you need to explain this as a note in the remark section.

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 6482 Name: Rescue Helicopter
*
6482-1 (Inv) Rescue Helicopter
179 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 1989
Sets: Town: Classic Town: Hospital

* Change 5 Part Red {3048 Slope 45 2 x 1 Triple to 3048c Slope 45 2 x 1 Triple - with Inside Bar}

Thanks.

The copyright date for all copies produced for this set is 1989.
What is the 4-digit number printed on one of the transparent seals? That gives
the production date of the set.

Just spoke with Lego Support. I was told the first two digits are the week number,
the last digit is the last number of the year, and the third digit is unknown.
So 3059 means that it was manufactured the week of July 24th, 1989.
