I'm looking for a feature within Bricklink that can tell me which parts only
have appeared in one set. This information is already within bricklink, just
not displayed as a list anywhere.

(another forum poster suggested that since we already have a MOST common parts
function, a LEAST common parts function could be a solution - as long as it takes
into account color, leaves out parts in colors that never appeared in any set,
and includes more than 25 in the list)

This will be very helpful to me and others, as noted in this thread: http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=842426

I have a huge bin of my childhood LEGO, and unfortunately I did not keep all
of my instructions. This list would be very helpful in figuring out which sets
I have. For example,

Part No: 2826 Name: Windscreen 5 x 8 x 3
*
2826 Windscreen 5 x 8 x 3
Parts: Windscreen
only appeared in dark blue in 1 set. I have this
part, which means I have the parts for

Set No: 6175 Name: Crystal Explorer Sub
*
6175-1 (Inv) Crystal Explorer Sub
152 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1995
Sets: Aquazone: Aquanauts

Thank you for your consideration!!

I agree - from a timeliness standpoint can this be done with other tools?

I don't know how extensive the BL API is ... Is this something that can be
teased out of the database through the API commands?

Brickfininty runs a much more complex set of queries so I would think this level
of search is not that hard.

From a logic stand point:
part 1 color 1 if set appearance =1 then add to list
next
part 1 color 2 etc
repeat

The reality is a list like this could be updated monthly (or weekly) to keep
up with new part appearances, but does not really need to be a dynamic list.

What about rebrickable?

This sort, which is the This Part Appears in X Sets instantly shows parts that
are unique in a particular color. I know nothing about programming, but it would
seem that the info is already here to compile a list where only 1 set exists
for any particular part and color combination. A 3rd party may be able to create
this by downloading the catalog, no?

I was not trying to be misleading and say it is there, but in the past little
while there have been few changes here, but not many. Even the fixes have been
slow.

ReBrickable has their own set/part database and have seen more frequent updates
and improvements. This may be something they would add since it does seem to
be an easy query to run.

This may also fit with peeron.com

They have list of similar searches
http://www.peeron.com/inv/reports

What I am saying is while this is a great future enhancement, the results are
seemingly easy to get, the updates are slow to come on BL and these other sister
sites, if prompted by the right person(s) may add the search much much sooner.

Anybody have an inside track with these sites?

If such a thing existed, it would be useful to be able to strip out all parts
that are stickered, since many of them are unique to a set.
