| Reading recent posts about feedback and absences from Bricklink, it occurred
to me that maybe there should be a timeout after which you would need to reactivate
your account, with inactivity shown in a member status.
The only negative feedback I can remember leaving was a seller who never ever
responded to an order. I checked other feedback and felt it was necessary to
alert buyers. I had to wait 6 months for my binding order to lapse before ordering
the same sets from other stores - in case the non responsive seller ever turned
up and I would have been obliged by the terms of service to complete the order.
I don't know if the seller was sick, or deceased, or in jail, or had moved
on in life.... Whatever the
circumstances I hope they are well. If you look at the member list there are
plenty who may have joined long ago and done nothing, which is fine. They might
have forgotten passwords and started new accounts. They might no longer be with
us or be in dire straits. Who would know?
I guess this is an unforeseen legacy of online account creation, which has been
mentioned in relation to other sites in recent years. I would hope that Bricklink
doesnt feel a vested interest in counting the number of inactive members as if
they were still active, and I dont believe that this would be so.
For the purpose of everyone better understanding who they are transacting with,
can a timout for inactivity function and relogin to re-establish active membership
be introduced? Any suggestions as to what the period might be?

I meant the title of the potential thread to refer to inactive membership.

| Is this more of a "how long do I have to wait to hear back from a deadbeat seller"
issue?
Waiting 6 months to reorder from elsewhere is craziness. So you have a good point,
but isn't there an NRS or something that cuts the time down?

They have tools already in place for such, Sellers can, key word "can", set their
store to automatically close after a specified number of days of inactivity.
It is not a default setting though. Also, after a week of no communication, you
could have filed an NRS (Non-Responsive Seller) with BrickLink and after several
more days, you could have canceled the order and moved on.

My point related more to unintended consequences or misfortune. If you get hit
by a bus, you can hardly return home to change your Bricklink settings. I've
never heard of an NRS so thanks for the tip - but from the vibe of the forum
there are plenty who take holidays or forget to cahnge their status and it would
be easy to get innocent sellers caught in a tangle over trivia.
Without being crude, in however many years Bricklink has been in existence, many
members could potentially have passed on, including some with stores and heirs
unawares.

My inventory was deleted after 180 days of inactivity in 2011, I've been
busy these last 3 yrs.
That's probably the worst news I had all week.
After digging my store and collection out of a storage unit, I know have to spend
a good portion of time re-listing. I'm toying with just buying and parting
new sets to get the store up faster.
