I would like to see a couple of things change in regards to shipping notifications
that are sent out by Bricklink.
First, I would like to have emails sent automatically when an order is set to
shipped by the seller. There are many sellers who do not send drive thru emails,
but if the buyer is looking for this message, it would be nice if the system
automated it so that this email gets sent with every order.

Hand in hand with that, would be allowing buyers to opt out of receiving drive
thru emails. I personally never read them, and they just take up space in my
email. I appreciate the sellers who send them as I believe it is good customer
service (I send them). But I don't wish to receive them.

Thanks,
Katie

They can always go to "my orders" to check the status.

Use an email filter to delete them.

No offense Katie, but this suggestion makes no sense to me

You want Drive-thru's to be sent automatically to every user, but you yourself
find them a waste of space and do not read them? Why would you want to force
something that you personally deem as a waste of space on everyone?

I send these, also I appreciate getting them when I do buy as I know when the
package was sent in theory

I like it as it is, because sometimes I set something as shipped in the morning
after I print out the labels, but I won't send the drive-thru message until
the evening when I know it has been physically received by the USPS and hopefully
there has been some action on the tracking number.

Just my 2 cents and it is a no vote for me, not that votes on suggestions mean
much

I use the Drive-Thru for a followup if after a couple of weeks the buyer has
not yet marked it as received or completed.

I guess I am looking at it from a buyer's perspective:
If I am not too familiar with this site, and just came here to place an order
or two, trying to remember my password and username. Trying to figure out where
to find order status and such, is a pain. It is very convenient to get a notification
in my email. It saves me a lot of trouble.
I personally am on Bricklink everyday, and don't care so much about receiving
these emails. I can check the status myself. But on other sites that I don't
use often, and don't know the ins and outs of, getting these notifications
are very helpful. So again, I am thinking of the drive thru buyer so to speak.
As a seller, you can just wait to set the status to shipped when you feel it
is best. I know that many sellers do not send these notifications, and again
as a buyer who is looking for this, it is nice to always receive them.

I guess I can try and find some way to filter these from going into my inbox,
but I'm not too savvy about such things, and would find it helpful to be
able to say no to notifications on the Bricklink end of things.

So yes, I think they are helpful to a large margin of buyers who do not frequent
the site much, but I personally do not need them.

I would rather not send notifications, especially to domestic customers. Because
I do all domestic shipping through paypal, my customers already receive an email
from paypal about the shipping. I feel like sending more is just spam.

Maybe I should send out notifications to international customers; though they
can all look at the order details to find the shipping status and tracking info
anyway.

When I'm placing orders, if I am curious about the status, I look on my orders
placed page, and I don't think much of it if a seller sent me a notification
or not, which is probably true for most experienced members. So maybe I should
just send notifications to international customers with under 10 feedback?

I send out these notices to my buyers, but I never read the notices my sellers
send me. I don't like the idea of these notices automatically going out when
an order is marked shipped (since there are reasons why I sometimes don't
want these notices going out until later). But I like the second part of your
suggestion for a buyer setting whereby buyers can indicate whether or not they
wish to receive these notices. This should be an easy no brainer for BrickLink.
A quick little fix that may drastically reduce the number of emails it churns
out.
