Hello all,

So just a suggestion -

Ok so like Amazon when you have a wishlist and you or someone else buys off that
list it disappears from that list. This should be super if it worked in the
same way on here. If there is an option to do this then sorry i havent found
it.

Thanks Phil.

Hi

this is asked a lot of times...
An automatic way not possible for the moment.

You can do it when your settings are one for 'Items in Order on My Wanted List
Icon'
http://www.bricklink.com/orderSettingsCols.asp?v=p&viewFrom=O
you will get an icon on your placed order page and then you can delete your item
or change it

After you've submitted an order on the confirmationpage there is a link "items
in order on my wantedlist".
From there you go to the wantedlist and can select the parts to move or delete
them.
Thanks Phil.

Please not automatic. If there is something wrong with the order, you need to
put them on list again.
Now I use the "items in order on my wanted list" to move them to another wanted
list with the name "ordered" and when they order arrives, I check and delete.
The way it is now I like it.

Yes, but all of that could be part of an automated process.

When shopping in a store, any items on your Wanted lists could show a special
icon automatically. When placing an order, a confirmation screen could come up,
asking if you want to move items from your Wanted lists to a Pending Deletion
From Wanted List page. When you mark an order as Complete or Received, a confirmation
screen could come up, asking if you want to remove items from the Pending Deletion
page, or if you want to move them back to your Wanted list.

There are too many potential reasons to not want this to happen. What if you
need 200 pieces and you only ordered 50 from the first store? What if it's an
item you want to get notifications for forever, whether you buy them or not?
What if you have a stock list to reorder from when you run out of commonly used
parts? What if the seller screws up and sends you the wrong parts, doesn't send
them at all, or sends you parts that look like they were run over by a tank?
What if the site is hacked right before you push the Submit button and your
order doesn't actually go through, even though it said id did?

It would only deduct 50.

  What if it's an
item you want to get notifications for forever, whether you buy them or not?

You would add an infinite amount to your wanted list, so that any deductions
still leave an infinite amount.

What if you have a stock list to reorder from when you run out of commonly used
parts?

Leave it forever in your Pending Removal From Wanted List page, and add back
to Wanted List as needed.

What if the seller screws up and sends you the wrong parts, doesn't send
them at all, or sends you parts that look like they were run over by a tank?

When you get the confirmation page that I described earlier after you mark your
order as "Received", you simply click that you want it moved back to Wanted.

What if the site is hacked right before you push the Submit button and your
order doesn't actually go through, even though it said id did?

LOL -- how does the current system protect against that?

It doesn't delete the items from your want list. Only you do that, and if you're
thinking ahead, you're moving them to a Purchased list when you place the order,
a Missing list when they fail to arrive, and only deleting them when they actually
show up.

Here's another one for you. You need 50, but are open to buying more.

Why are you cutting all the parts of my posts that provide the context?

For that first statement, the question is, how does the current system protect
against hackers? It doesn't. You wrote that the proposed new system would be
vulnerable to hackers. So is the current one!

Every single concern that you have about an automated system for removing items
from a Wanted list is easily addressed.

I left your entire question intact. _My_ post is still available directly above
it.

For that first statement, the question is, how does the current system protect
against hackers? It doesn't. You wrote that the proposed new system would be
vulnerable to hackers. So is the current one!

Then perhaps you need to do a better job at providing context. The discussion
and every example I gave was about how to protect against unwanted deletion of
Want List items. My example was about an unexpected system hack that causes
your order to fail to complete but presents itself as having done so, subsequently
causing the Want List items that you thought you were purchasing to auto-delete.
It was never about protecting the system from being hacked in the first place.
The only way to 100% guarantee that never happens is to shut the system down
and never bring it back. I don't think any of us want to see that happen...

Every single concern that you have about an automated system for removing items
from a Wanted list is easily addressed.

So address that last example. You need a minimum of 50 parts. You want an open-ended
maximum. You realize you might need to buy from multiple stores to get what
you need.

The simplest solution, if you really want auto-deletion, is to make non-deletion
the default and only if someone chooses to subject themselves to potential and
unnecessary headaches do the items auto-delete when purchased.

And here's one more for you. You have the same item on ten different Want Lists.
How does the system know which one to delete when you make a purchase? For
me, it will always be more troublesome than it's worth. I prefer to keep my
data management in my own hands.

No, it isn't. You are cutting the content.

Saying that the proposed new system is vulnerable to a hack is irrelevant, because
so is the current system. Nothing you've written above changes that.

Set it at infinite, add a note that you want 50. I cannot imagine that you believe
this is a difficult example.

Cool for you. Were you also against BrickLink's inventories -- you want to manually
add each individual part yourself each time?

If this was available, I hope there would be a way to disable it.

First, what if the sale fails for some reason? Buyer is missing some stock,
package gets run over by USPS van, etc. Then I have to figure out what was missing
and re add it to my wanted lists.

Second, what if I mistakenly entered a quantity and only ordered that many (as
I did recently). Now I need to order 2 more which means I'd have to re add it
to the list. As it was, I just needed to adjust my quantity needed.

I'd rather adjust my wanted list after I have to order in hand.
