| Basically, the subject already says it:
I would like to get email notifications whenever a Forum post of mine gets a
reply.
A desirable optional setting: email and/or BL message notification - including
the text of the reply (just like a facebook notification) and a link to the thread/post.
Various other optional features I can think of:
- notify for all new posts in threads I started
- notify for all new posts in threads I contributed to (like facebook)
- notify for all new (direct) replies to posts of mine
- notify for all new posts in the reply tree of posts of mine
- individual selection (by checkbox when posting) if I want any of the notifications
above for the very post I submit only.

| I'd agree it should be optional, there are some threads where (for various reasons)
I wouldn't want to know if I had replies.

| Sounds like it might be a bit resource hungry!
Anything that potentially pulls valuable processing resources from the essential
buying & selling functions gets a no thanks from me - sorry.

Agree with you.
Suggestion: if you easily want to follow a certain thread, save a separate link
to that thread-page into your favourites, or even at your desktop. Using the
options MyActivities/Posts on the MyBricklink tab works fine for me.

Almost all forum threads have a pretty short life. I don't find it too difficult
to navigate to any of my posts using either the view links (without replies,
25 more, 50 more, etc) or a forum search.

Still, this notification would help in finding replies like these:

that were added to my small thread after more than 2 weeks only.
While you don't seem to bother checking your own threads for news
on a regular basis (which is absolutely fine, of course), I do:
I don't like to miss a reply, but I hate wasting time on checking
my posts/threads "just in case".
If it really turns out to be another burden on top of the current
bandwith/response time issues, I prefer to get these fixed first,
of course - but since I have no clue of the technical details (and
many other forums/boards/networks provide such a notification
service), I feel like asking won't hurt.

I get yout point and I see some pros in it, but this will mean a lot for processing:
every message has to be checked against the setting of the poster, as
well as these of the member the message is a reply to. So if a message is having
a lot of replies to replies to replies, each new message has to be evaluated
several times, emails have to be created and sent etc. etc.
Most threads do have a short time-line. In stead of posting a reply to a message
of (let's say) 2 weeks ago, it would be better to directly write to the original
poster.

has replied to a message you posted, clicking the icon will show you the list
of replies to your post which you have not yet read. On the UI end, this could

To address the bandwidth issues, running it this way would in fact reduce bandwidth,
since people wouldn't need to refresh every one of their threads several times
to see if there was a reply.

Or they could setup any standard forum software package that does all that stuff
and more. Cheap, if not free.

MOST internet forums have this notification feature. Without it, BL is not on
the cutting-edge of internet discussion board technology.
