Maybe this is just a personal wish, but I would love to have a note be displayed
on my action items page similar to the one that says "Store with Items in My
Cart", but rather telling me when a buyer has placed an item from my store in
their shopping cart.
Some buyers will place an order within two minutes of entering my store. Other
will take 30 mn. It would be nice to know if someone is actively shopping or
not. Alot of times I'll see like 4 hits one right after another, and I know someone
is seriously looking at my store, but when 5-10 minutes has gone by, I don't
know if they are actually shopping now, or have moved on.
Also, if I see alot of buyers who put my items in their shopping carts and them
remove them and not make a purchase, it might convince me that I need to make
some price adjustments.
Just one of my personal wishes.

How would Bricklink know if they've moved on or not? There have been multiple
times when I was shopping a seller's store, didn't have time to finish, left
my browser open, and then added more parts and submitted the order the next day.

It would just say it until the buyer emptied their shopping cart. It would be
nice to know if someone was thinking about making a purchase--even if it is overnight.
There are times when I go through and make a lot of price adjustments. I would
feel bad doing this if I knew I had someone counting on certain things to be
a certain price.
However, I can also see how some sellers might use this as a tool to tell them
to raise their prices, but with that you wouldn't know what they have
in their cart.
The feature could also keep a number as to how many customers have an open shopping
cart.

The biggest problem is the cart info isn't stored on BL. It's stored on the persons
computer. If I put something in a cart on my home computer, and look on my work
computer an hour later it doesn't show up. But when I get home that night it's
still there.

Well, the suggestion could be that this information ought to be stored on the
server side instead of the client side. (On BL's systems instead of the user's.)

I would find that useful as a buyer. I have way too many internet connections,
see. Usually I shop on BrickLink on the laptop, but sometimes my wife is watching
House or Glee on demand with it, so I use the desktop, but sometimes the kids
are playing games on barbie.com there, so I use the Wii. I've also been known
to browse BrickLink on my break at work. It would be great if BL could remember
what I have in my cart from one system to the next.

You just have to keep trying, you can borrow my idea of country flags for each
poster on the main forum screen, if you like.

You can't change price on items that have already been placed in a person's cart.
If a buyer's shopping your store and places an item in their cart, you could
double the price on it while they're still shopping, but when they check out,
it will be the same price as when they placed it in their cart. Placing an item
in a cart "locks in" the price. Of course, if a buyer closes their browser,
empties their cart or something like that, then when they come back, the price
will be different.

Now let's say a buyer places half of a lot (5 out of 10 pieces) in their
cart, and while shopping, you change the price on that piece. If that buyer
decides that the 5 in their cart isn't enough and they want all 10, but the last
5 are placed in their cart after you changed the price...then gosh, I'm
really not sure what happens then. I think Bricklink self destructs or something.
Anyone out there know?

I was afraid to test this when I had the chance -- I was buying some minifig
torsos, and found multiples of the one I wanted for 60 cents. I put 20 of them
in my cart. Before buying, I later figured I might as well buy them out, as I
could resell at nearly twice the price, when I found that the seller HAD doubled
the price. (Maybe accidentally listed at their cost?). I wasn't sure weather
I would lose the deal on the 20 that I already had, so I just checked out without
adding any more.

Katie,

that may not be as useful as you think though I don't care if BL makes the change.
Often I go into stores and put the items in my cart to see if seller has enough
items to warrant the cost of shipping...or has all the parts I need for my project.
But once I do that...I go to TERMS where I see things that can cause no order..like

extreme fees or odd fees
lot limits
low quality of brick disclaimer (hate that word CHEWED in quality)
a very high minimum like 20.00 or more (unless my order exceeds it anyway)
or notes about their getting colors wrong etc...
then there is the feedback...

any smart member reads terms before they buy unless it's a store you already
know well.

If for any of these reasons or just talking myself out of it because I've already
spent too much on lego.. I simply go to another store.

sometimes I have multiple windows open with two carts going just to see which
store is the better purchase and has the most items I want.....but if I'm doing
mutliple stores in windows one will be getting a purchase if not both.

In the end it's possible no purchase is made. So Cart does not guarantee a sale.

Still might be fun to know how many people shop your store whether they buy or
not so good idea.

I also wonder if someone has something in their cart and does not sign out and
stays in the store over night or for a week, is the item removed from the stores
inventory. Then if the person does not buy something it is put back in inventory
whenever they leave the store. If this is the case someone could tie up a stores
inventory if they wanted to.

Hello John,

I don't think this scenario happens. Items in one's shopping cart get only pulled
from store inventory after the Submit Order button is hit.
It happened to me before I had a lot of items in my cart and it took me about
a whole day to go through the store I was shopping.
After I finally hit the Submit Order button I got a notice saying that some of
the items in my cart were no longer available.
It's my guess that another buyer shopped the same store at the same time, adding
these same items (in the same or higher qty.) in their cart and simply checked
out before I did... first comes (and goes ), first served!

Or it must have been that the seller deleted some items from their store inv.
while I was shopping (but this seems less probable, though possible!)

So I don't think a seller's store inv. can get tied up by filled shopping carts
on hold.

I thought that I read in a thread that items are removed from inventory once
they are put into a cart. Then again I had a customer say she put things in

They're not.

Right now, I have your entire store in my cart.

If you check your own store right now, you'll see that it's all still there.

John, you might be thinking of the scenario of price changes. When an item is
put in your cart, it's a copy of the item with the price "saved" as of the time
it was added to the cart. So if you list an item for $5 and someone adds it
to their cart, but later you realize you meant to sell it for $50 and change
the price, when they go to check out it will sell them the item at $5. Of course,
it also can happen the reverse - with the buyer paying a higher price than is
currently listed in your store. Not sure why Admin did it that way, but its
doubtful it would ever be changed.

is seriously looking at my store, but when 5-10 minutes has gone by, I don't
know if they are actually shopping now, or have moved on.
Also, if I see alot of buyers who put my items in their shopping carts and them
remove them and not make a purchase, it might convince me that I need to make
some price adjustments.
Just one of my personal wishes.

Hi,

Would be nice to know, but it doesn't guarantee a sale.
So I don't mind if this gets implemented or not. (If at all possible...)
