  Hi all

Received an order the other day, and within 10 minutes the customer cancelled.
Fair enough, no problem - I cancelled the order.

Today had a message from the "Buyer" to say I had sent them a wrong part
- black instead of dark Bluish Grey.

Good try - but no cigar

Have to be alert in this game !!

Tracy

I haven't had this, but I have had someone chase me that their parts haven't
arrived yet before they had paid me for them.

What could be argued is that BL parts orders are “goods made to order or clearly
personalised.”  Those are exempt from the “cooling-off” period.

It used to be that lego.com PAB orders were not returnable. They have changed
their rules so that they are now returnable so long as the whole PAB order is
returned. So if LEGO have relented on their 'no PAB returns' line, presumably
there is some legal reason behind it.

The 'goods made to order' exemption used to be stated on LEGO's website
for Pick a Brick. I'd be highly surprised if it wasn't removed due to
a challenge on right to withdraw.

It's worth noting that right to withdraw only applies to consumers. So if
a seller buys from another seller, distance selling regulations don't apply
in the same way.

A user can be a buyer or a seller. A user is a human being at the end of the
day. When a user buys, he is a buyer.
If you replace user by buyer in "It also makes the new user powerless and
leaves room for bad sellers to treat newbies anyway they want.", you get
"It also makes the new buyer powerless and leaves room for bad sellers to
treat newbies anyway they want." but there is no difference in the meaning
of what I wrote.

snippety snip

As long as there is feedback, there will be some unfair feedbacks too. That will
happen randomly to sellers. More a seller sells, you more likely it happens.

Agreed. Not agreeing to the feedback is not really a reason not to have it.
Customer's opinion is too important as a tool for improvement.

Setting arbitrary rules like no negatives for new buyers is a very subjective
rule. You might just as well say 'sellers with less than 95% positive can't
leave poor feedback as they clearly don't give good service'.

There are always going to be mistakes and poor judgement calls, but other than
leaving a sour taste in the mouth, it's only really going to make a difference
as a seller if you have very few feedback, or poor feedback to start with.

But.... Okay, I'm sure this has been asked over the years by those with
exponentially more LEGO knowledge than I... But why are these terms and part
numbers not homogenized? Why is a part XXXX here and YYYY there? Plus the whole
color thing? Why is it Track here and Rail there?

There's a reason for the colours, less so AFAIK for the parts descriptions
descrepencies.

Back in the day, LEGO didn't disclose to everyone else what they called the
colour shades. Most of the older colours are called what they were by the public
when Bricklink got the original data from Peeron. Then in the early '00s
the colour change happened and the greys got called LBG and DBG do differentiate
from 'old' light and dark grey. More recently we can see what LEGO call
everything, and dark bluish gray and dark stone grey are used variably on different
websites.

I suppose it would be possible to realign the colours to LEGOs names, but that
would cause a whole lot of confusion. Personally I'm happy with green being
green, and tan being tan rather than brick yellow.

Are you able to become a seller is you have your buying privileges revoked? I'm

Problem resides between keyboard and chair.

You may not believe me, no problem.

Please better wait 3 weeks for the Help Desk.

As also it can work with a payment on PayPal on site and not with Stripe - depending
the blocked requests.

There's a Safe mode in Firefox to test without ANY add-on.

On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click
on the Firefox desktop shortcut

On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

HTH

Hello, ofcourse I believe you, but I can also not in any way proceed to checkout
on my store. When I click it, it goes to the standard shop page again. Are you
able to try at my store and see if it works?

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding but it's not possible to buy from your
own store on Bricklink, so you wouldn't be able to get to the checkout stage
in your own store.

  In Catalog, Admin_Russell writes:
  Hello everyone,

As a platform, we have decided to take a hard look at some of the mold variants
that we are currently asking you to recognize. For sellers, more variants means
extra sorting and extra work while pulling orders, plus the issues that arise
from variant misunderstandings.

For buyers, excess variants mean that it's harder to assemble a wanted list,
find stores, and ultimately obtain the parts you are looking for.

I have put together a quick Help page to outline these proposed changes:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2625

Notice the date on this is coming up quickly (Feb 1), so I'm not giving a
lot of time for discussion. I'm aiming for about 1 week of discussion and
then we'll give sellers 2 weeks to adjust the descriptions on affected items
if they wish to retain the distinctions.

I plan to construct a full FAQ page with answers to all your questions. This
will serve to inform users about what was done here in February 2024, and also
help point the catalog in the right direction in the future.

To get started, I'll list a few here:

1. This sounds like you're dumbing down the BrickLink catalog to make
it easier for new users. Is that what is going on?

Not really. There are many, many other variants we expect people to sort and
care about. These ones don't really seem to matter much, and some of them
(e.g., the minifigure heads) actually cause problems for the catalog that cannot
be corrected otherwise.

2. What if I really care about a certain variant that is going away? Can I
still buy and sell that variant?

Absolutely! You can add notes to your listings to make them as "determined"
as you wish. Buyers can still search within notes for extra details, or they
can simply observe them as they browse listings.

3. How do I know which exact variants will be merged? I only see one example
in each category.

Please ask in this thread and I can be very specific. Usually we are talking
about a handful of parts and the printed versions.

4. Has a merge like this ever been done before?

Yes, there was a precedent - the Headlight Brick with Slot:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1016584

It was marked for deletion a few years ago and was finally merged last August.

5. Are these the only parts up for consideration, or are there other variants
that will be merged as well?

This is all for now. Based on how well this goes, we may elect to remove other
entries later. However, we will keep all functional variants and important cosmetic
variants.

As a seller and vintage collector, I can only say that limiting the variants
is the wrong decision, you should make more of it instead and specify in which
time period the different variants were used.

If we had a database that supported tags we could have the best of both worlds.

I could list 10 4085 and a buyer that just needed 8 1x1 with clip would buy and
be happy.
Currently if I listed 3 4085a 3 4085b and 4 4085d I wouldn't sell as the
quantity wouldnt come up in the search.

If I could use tags to distinguish the parts then a buyer who didn't care
could buy all of them, and a vintage set completer could still search easily
for the variants they want and buy those specific ones.

I doubt the difference is intentional.

Agreed- almost imperceptible differences like this aren't worth the overhead!

That's always been the rub though, hasn't it. What are imperceptible
or irrelevant to some are critical for exactness or vintage status to others.
Where to draw the line is challenging.

I'm not personally very bothered about variants when it comes to my personal
bricks, but I'm as careful as possible to distinguish in my store. My concern
is that the completeness and specificity of the catalogue is really Bricklink's
USP and what sets it aside from other market places. I fear that this may become
lost.

Yeah, I already did pay 2 euros extra, the seller was threatening to pull the
trigger and cancel the order. So it is better to pay and discuss later, when
the grown-ups come back into house.

Besides, I would never ever expect any seller to do me a shipping at a loss,
just because he made a pricelist mistake. So I first researched his postal service
website and established that the letter costs him 11.90, store terms ask for
12 but he wants 14 from me.
Now that's annoying part, I am politely saying that I feel a needless rip-off,
but he might seem unable to explain anything more effectively in english...

If you are complaining about paying any more than 12 euro, don't forget if
you are paying by Stripe the seller will be getting less than 11.50 of that,
and will still have to buy a box and other packing materials. It's not just
the cost of the stamps/post office charge that's incurred in getting the
parcel to you.

The buyer's obligation is to pay you. Once they have paid you, their obligation
to you has been met.

I would add that they have the responsibility to communicate reasonably and civilly.
Including messaging to let you know if there are special requirements or any
issues, and replying promptly when you message them.

feedback even after several months.

The Store complained that they only post feedback once they know I am going to
say something positive, and if I updated my feedback to positive, they would
then leave positive feedback for me...

Few days later I see the feedback has been "Removed by Administration"

Any way I can appeal this?

My feedback was honest and true. I even have the message history to prove it,
including the store trying to "bribe" me to change my feedback to positive...
This shouldn't be allowed...

Quite ironic given you haven't left feedback for several of your orders.

It's not uncommon for sellers to wait for buyers to leave feedback first,
so that they know the order is complete and that you are happy with it. (I don't
do this myself, but it is a valid viewpoint).

The last orders by envelope gave problems, because of the lack of a CN22 form.

Of course, CN22 or CN23 is mandatory...

It's Export, like shipping to China (but a bit nearer, and a very tad faster).

The nearer bit I agree with. But the faster bit, I'm not so sure these days!

Last Buyer I had in UK (comprehensive person BTW) was astonished it took more
than 15 days FR to UK

Crazy. My best is a package door to door UK to France in 36 hours pre brexit,
and that was just normal mail, not special delivery or anything.
