Hey all.
I bought a crate of used Lego and found a few of these pieces I can't identify
(or seem to find in the bricklink Catalog) It's a hollow brick with "Lego"
printed in the studs.(no reference number)

This part is the one that would potentially cause issues. Things like the variations
of 3933/3934 that can cause parts to physically not attach in some scenarios.
That's the first I can think of just because I've experienced it in the
past.

Thank you for the explanations. I agree that some times, or for some people it
can be useful, but i believe that most of the time it isn't. As suggested,
I think that there should be an option to do a general search for wantlists or
in store, choose if you care about variants or not.

The database isn’t made for this, and the only way now is to have “undetermined”
variants, which just adds another variant, fouls the price guide, and makes half
the buyers unhappy.

What would be nice would be “virtual undetermined parts,” and inventories and
sellers should still have to use the determined variants but searches and WLs
wouldn’t.

(There might still be problems though. Say, a buyer parts out a set into a WL,
they are asked if they allow other variants, they accept because they think it
will be cheaper and easier to fullfil, but the set really can only be built with
the one variant )

But that means modifying the database and the site too deeply, at least for now….

Since they use mostly common parts, I think many AFOLs would prefer to build
them with the parts in their own collection, and just buy any ones they are missing.

Not only would this generate revenue for Bricklink by increased sales, it would
be an olive branch to the sellers who have been completely excluded from this
promotion.

Bricklink has done so much to build the AFOL community and it has become a verb
within our vocabulary (much like Google has in the general population). It would
be a sad irony if the sets created by Bricklink to celebrate AFOLs cannot be
Bricklinked by AFOLs.

I voted no.
They are MOC's not officials Lego sets.

From what I understand from reading about these sets, these aren't going
to be officially recognized LEGO sets. If that's the case, I don't feel
like they belong in the catalog. Someone will post the inventory somewhere (from
what I understand, it happens with most popular MOCs), so there is nothing stopping
a buyer from creating their own wanted list and purchase the parts without having
the set in the catalog.

Josh

They're still more official than BrickArms, which is also in the catalog...

Plus, the whole "exciting" part about the whole project, according to BL itself,
is the fact that it's an official cooperation with the LEGO Group.

So yes, I definitely see the irony.

I objected to adding BrickArms as well, for what it's worth. Fat lot of good
that did

Many buyers ask if i have a part, for example, a 1 x 1 with clip, and I do, but
they had the O clip in their wanted lists, and i had the U clip, but they didn't
care for either.

It would be nice if the catalog had the sophistication to have a metapart that
would collect listings of all three in a search if someone really didn't
care which.

I guess it does in a way as you can search for "arch 1 x 6 x 2 -curved -pattern"
if you don't care which one you get, but it only really works for searches
and not wants lists. So yes having a metadata tag to link them would be good.
Same for a number of other parts with minor variations that may be inconsequential
for some people but important for others.

To me, yes. I have never been able visually to distinguish the difference between
the two without reinforcement - medium think - thin. I just don't see it,
try as I might.

You can always check mold number molded on the part's underside, magnifying
glass maybe needed.

Or a light piped thingamajig if you happen to be an entomologist (which is kind
of cheating).

I thought about buying an otoscope the other day so I could see the part number
on the giraffe guy's hat. Then I thought that might be a sign of obsession.

but I finally was able to read this mold number

There is a reason for the multiple entries, and that reason is because LEGO made
three variations of that part with different purposes in mind for each one. Some
of the builds that use one variation of the arch cannot be built using either
of the other two.

Three variants. Don’t exaggerate, you’re showing them

Part No: 3307  Name: Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Thick Top with Reinforced Underside
*
3307 Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Thick Top with Reinforced Underside
Parts: Arch

Part No: 15254  Name: Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Medium Thick Top without Reinforced Underside
*
15254 Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Medium Thick Top without Reinforced Underside
Parts: Arch

Part No: 12939  Name: Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Thin Top without Reinforced Underside
*
12939 Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Thin Top without Reinforced Underside
Parts: Arch

  I get the raised arch difference, that is notable, but this thin/thick thing?

The thin / thick thing is described in the notes, and mm dimensions given. Personally,
the difference between the old and new style (with/without the reinforcement)
is enough, but I I can understand why the different variants are there.

Yes, the variants are important:

1. You can fit some parts under the thin and medium thick parts that you can’t
fit under the thick one. E.g.

Part No: 20309  Name: Window 1 x 4 x 1 2/3 with Spoked Rounded Top
*
20309 Window 1 x 4 x 1 2/3 with Spoked Rounded Top
Parts: Window

2. Collectors find it very important to get the right variant.

The odd part here would be the thin one: it was short lived (a year). Too fragile?
Too thin (it leaves a noticeable gap)?
Anyway, it’s here and came before the medium thick and was already in the catalogue
(2013) when the medium thick version was spotted / included in the catalogue
(2016).
There was no reason to merge thin and medium thick then and there’s no much reason
to do it now as we would still need to keep the old one.

Wouldn’t it be as confusing to have a “thick” version and “more or less thin”
one?

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 341  Name: Warehouse
*
341-1 (Inv) Warehouse
123 Parts, 1968
Sets: Classic: Building

* Add 4 Part 445a Blue Door 1 x 3 x 4 Left with Thin Handle (Alternate)
* Add 4 Part 446a Blue Door 1 x 3 x 4 Right with Thin Handle (Alternate)

Comments from Submitter:
I only want to add 445a and 446a as alternative part. If you look at the instructions and the box it could very well be the door with thin handle. Since you don't have 445a and 446a as a part in any inventory list, I cannot find the item id. This would affect all sets with doors 3188, 3189, 3195, 3194, 445 and 446, to have the door with thin handle as alternative. Regards, Johan

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 6842 Name: Shuttle Craft
*
6842-1 (Inv) Shuttle Craft
41 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1981
Sets: Space: Classic Space

* Add 2 Part 3040 White Slope 45 2 x 1 (Alternate) (match ID 3)

Comments from Submitter:
As per my recent submission re: 3943b, I also note that in my two sets the 45 2x1 slopes have bottom tubes (3040). Again, with the last known use of 3040a being 1981, and the earliest use of 3040 being 1977, it makes sense that later production runs of 6842 which had low attachment modified plates and axle hole cones would also have 3040.

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 6842 Name: Shuttle Craft
*
6842-1 (Inv) Shuttle Craft
41 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1981
Sets: Space: Classic Space

* Add 1 Part 3943b Black Cone 4 x 4 x 2 with Axle Hole (Alternate) (match ID 2)

Comments from Submitter:
I had a pair of these since childhood and recently disassembled and bagged them for storage. Both had the axle hole version of the large cones, which is corroborated in terms of timeline by the already confirmed existence in 6890 and 6929. Both sets also contained 3839b, which implies they were from a later production run.

6246a Minifigure, Utensil Tool Screwdriver - Narrow Head - 6-Rib Handle
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

The long answer:

It only came out in 2005, and for all intents and purposes, the only fully-distributed
set it was in was 7251 Darth Vader Transformation. Until Lego released an updated
version of that in 2017, it was a fairly high-demand set because that scene in
Revenge of the Sith is iconic. But sets released in 2004-2005 typically had short
shelf lives because of Lego's color transformation and changes in the company.
So higher demand + lower supply = a fairly expensive set -- it still averages
$28 for 53 pieces, or $0.53/piece, and I remember seeing it go for $35-$40
a few years back. Since there are very few exclusive parts in the set besides
the figs, the few exclusive/rare parts get priced up extremely high, likely because
of people trying to Bricklink the set.

Only available in 3 sets, of which one is an exclusive.

Basic Supply and Demand, I should think

  There is a black haired one on eBay right now.

You do know you can post the auction number, right?

(Hint, hint...poke, poke...nudge, nudge)

You can't post the link, just the item number. (202504481665)

Your post is going to be canceled.

Thanks.I am new at this. I have now instead tried to add the minifig with brown
hair as a new item (belvmale21). I hope I will have better luck with that. If
there is one with black hair on ebay, you must be right that both versions
exist.

Sets: Belville: Recreation

* Add 1 Part 3030 Bright Green Plate 4 x 10 (Alternate)

What is your source for requesting this change?

Thanks,
Randy

I have now had tree sets where this plate were "bright green". When I google
I can find pictures of more sets like mine.
Thanks
Anne

To make changes like this, I need to have convincing evidence, since the inventories
were originally submitted to BrickLink by a prior Inventory Administrator.

Were all of your sets purchased new by you or used? If they were new, did
you build the sets yourself and have the pieces of them always remained separate
from other sets?

Cheers,
Randy

My sets were purchased used - so I have no proof as such. Sorry.
If I google for pictures of this set, I get approximately 50% with this plate
in green and 50% with bright green. My sets have the bright green tile - but
in theory they could have been replaced.

Thank you for responding to my PM so quickly!

Yep, that is what I was finding as far as used sets, also. Unfortunately, I can't
really say for sure if this was a true alternate or not. It feels to me like
it easily could have been, but I don't want to change the inventory based
on just a feeling. Hopefully, someone with better evidence will come along eventually.
For now, I will have to reject this request.

Thanks for your time,
Randy

The first 3 items. Stupidity or on purpose?
Annoying anyway, messing up the price catalog.

They probably listed them for sale before the inventory was completed. If they
were asked to move them to the correct entries that are now in the catalog, they
probably would.

I just noticed that these sets require a Target credit card to purchase.

From this point on I will make an extra effort to ensure that I purchase in a
manner that limits the direct benefit to TLC. All these exclusives seem to do
is create a rift in their loyal fan base. They end up solely in the 2nd hand
market at inflated prices.

It looks like Sweet Mayhem will be, or is @ Target. It looks like a RedCard
exclusive? Haven't seen Benny yet.

Edit: Benny is @ Target as well.

rebrickable, and s@h as often as possible and still cannot seem to stay in the
Lego loop. Last year(?) I missed out on the classic set exclusives, some s@h
specials, and now these special sets.

41999 was bad enough, but that was more quantity, a smaller audience, and worldwide.

Releasing these with no notice and just to Wal-Mart in the US is a dick move.
It's not like they are fringe characters either, a lot of people like these
two, it just doesn't make sense to not release these popular characters worldwide
to take advantage of the movie.

I'm all for scumbag reselling, you have to hate the game not the player.
LEGO shouldn't be enabling this in the first place, just like 41999, just
like the series 18 Policeman. I'm all for taking advantage as a seller, but
I don't agree the opportunity should exist in the first place.

I'm hoping they do release worldwide, and not limited. It would be stupid
not to. If they don't release Emmet and Wyldstyle, then there is no point
in wider releases of Sweet Mayhem and Benny.

It looks like Sweet Mayhem will be, or is @ Target. It looks like a RedCard
exclusive? Haven't seen Benny yet.

Hi
How many colors do you have until now?
You have warm yellowish orange bricks or parts for sale (like the 2 1x2 plates
in your photo)? you have the 2x4 brick in that color?

Your photoes is excellent! You use special equipment & lighting?
If you can take a photo of all your 2x4 orange bricks it will be great, thanks!

I'm adding your warm yellowish orange picture with my light orange brick.
It doesn't seem to match at all. By the way the brick I added to your picture:
i scan the brick with my scanner- i didn't use a camera- so i guess the color
you see is the actual color!

Another & last question: You have maybe 3001 bricks for trade? i'm looking
for several colors i didn't get from b.l, my only source that i have so far
(israel is not a good location for lego fans). the colors is: flat silver, dark
flesh, trans bright green & trans black.

thanks for the help!
Yoav
