The average invoice and shipping times?

I'm not too wedded to anything in particular
being included in the chart, just that we have
some sort of uniform disclosure chart so that
store terms can be considered quickly and
accurately. So my suggestion is for the concept,
not any specific wording. Or was it something
else you objected to?

BL should create a uniform fee disclosure template that will appear on each seller's
Store Terms page. It should be the same format for every store, and once sellers
enter the various fees into their store settings the chart would automatically
populate and appear on the seller's page.

ONLY fees that are clearly disclosed on the chart could be included in an invoice,
and a buyer would have the right to cancel any order when invoiced with undisclosed
fees, without fear of receiving negative feedback. Same for sellers who cancel
orders when the buyer cancels over fees that were validly charged.

Here's an idea of what a chart COULD look like; anything clear and uniform
works, not unlike the fee disclosure information that must be included with credit
card and home mortgage offers in the US:

I'm most interested in a link showing on my My Action Items area of the My
BrickLink page. I don't really care if it is part of "Orders Not Yet Shipped"
or some other label.

I can back up an order status from Paid back to Ready and it shows in the Not
Yet Shipped list and the link shows in the Action Items.

I am not sure if I understand you correctly, but you are not supposed to mark
an order as "complete". That's for the buyer to do when he received and checked
it.

- Nadine

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, Nadine, but if this option is only
for a buyer to do, then why is the seller even able to select this status?

Probably more due to BL's less-than-cutting edge design. There are all sorts
of quirks on this site that don't fully comply with policy. So while the
seller can change the status to complete, this page clearly and fully puts the
burden on the buyer:

http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1138

Buyer and Seller each have tasks to do during the lifetime of an order. These
tasks called "Action Items" are located by default on your myBrickLink page (if
there are any). The following is an explanation of what each action item means:
Buyer:

Change Order Status to Completed - When you have verified the contents of your
package and consider the order completed. You can also change order status to
Received when you have received your package (but have not yet verified its contents
or there is a problem). The option to change order status on your Orders Placed
page appears when order has status of Shipped or Received. The myBrickLink action
item includes orders you placed where the order status is Shipped or Received.

While it might make sense that buyers should mark orders as complete, sellers
can do it too. BL help doesn't say that sellers should not mark them as complete,
and doesn't say that buyers should do it either.

Wrong link. It's a Buyer obligation:

Seems the BL rules consider it an obligation of buyers to update status:

Buyer and Seller Action Items

Buyer and Seller each have tasks to do during the lifetime of an order. These
tasks called "Action Items" are located by default on your myBrickLink page (if
there are any). The following is an explanation of what each action item means:

Buyer:

Pay for an Order - Instructions on where to send payment are located on the invoice
that you receive from the seller. Checking the checkbox and clicking the "submit
changes" button on your orders placed page under column "Paid" will change the
payment status to "Paid". The myBrickLink action item includes orders where the
order status is Ready, order has been invoiced and payment status is none.

Post Feedback (optional) - Post Feedback to your seller when you receive your
items. The myBrickLink action item includes orders you placed where the order
status is Completed and you have not yet posted feedback.

  Hi gang!

I think it would be nice if a buyer MUST change status from "shipped" (when recieving
an order) to "completed" before making a NEW order

It's okay that a buyer do not wish to leave feedback (allthough I don't
understand why as I allways leave feedback once I've been paid - which anyway
can always be chnaged in 30 days if the buyer is .. hmm .. problematic)

But I DO like to know if the order have been recieved

But currently I have several orders that still say "shipped". I do not know if
the buyer have actually recived the order, or is satisfied

This annoys me a great deal!

What do you think? I'd be okay with this as buyer, but then again I allways
leave feedback

Cheers,

Ole

actually these orders don't affect the price guide.as I told you already

better to have 'forum police' as you put it rather than allowing OBVIOUS
scammers to operate on bricklink.

The price guide gets messed up regardless.

Does anyone really believe 2 new UCS Falcons were sold in March for US$700?
Or even the 1 for $1,000?

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?S=10179-1&ColorID=0

Not a chance, but for whatever reason, those orders weren't cancelled even
though I'm sure the store was closed and the sale was never consummated.
Also, some of these scammers actually sell all of their fake sets, so having
a vigilante buy them instead doesn't help or hurt the price guide any more
than the "sale" to the scammed buyer.

How about when the buyer asks for a lower value on the customs forms? Why does
BL not care about that? Asking a seller to lie and so the sellers that do have
an advantage over honest sellers. Should BL not care about that?

And if we refuse to do so, that buyer can threaten (and succeed in) leaving negative
or neutral feedback because we refused to be complicit in a felony.

I believe that if an order is cancelled by the seller a buyer cannot leave feedback.
I think.
John P

Sadly wrong. Both parties can leave feedback on cancelled orders,
and Admin is not very generous when considering removal requests.
If you cancel an order for a buyer who doesn't want to pay but don't
file
and complete an NPB, that buyer can leave negative feedback and good
luck getting it removed.

Really? Lego brought that part variant back in production? In that case it should
be added as an alternate. The sets that I parted out all had part 61252.

Yep, and I checked against the newer type just to be sure. Thanks for the info
from your sets, though - I'll add it back in.

Russell

Interesting. I'm curious why they would bring that part back now. Or maybe
they just found some old stock and decided to use it in these new sets.

I would be inclined to agree with you on your first point, except for the fact
that the "b" entry for the head *is* a determined version, expressly stating
"Stud Hollow".
[p=3626bp01]
So it's not a question of sellers adding more specifics to their listings.
The specificity is built into the Item Name.

It is a question of adding more specifics to the name in the *minifig* listing,
as the minifig names do not specify the head stud type.
http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=therobo&itemID=64925049

But if sellers are not bound by the variant in the inventory, then why would
it be an issue at all to change the head? I realise a lot of people never really
look at inventories closely when selling, but all along I have thought this was
the main objection to change - that it may cause some people's listings to
be in error.

Sellers are bound to minifig inventories as long as they don't add a more
specify comment.
Most sellers of vintage minifigs don't add comments so it can be assumed
that they have the hollow studded head. OTOH which buyer would complain when
getting a solid stud head, knowing that it would be more original

But that's the problem; they don't know it because the BL inventory states
otherwise. And there have been threads here about buyers complaining about getting
the "wrong" head, ie the one with a solid stud. In my early days I sold a bunch
of solid stud heads because I thought they weren't correct for any figures,
per the BL inventory. Doh!

I appreciated the opinions expressed in this thread but the issue is very simple.
Classic minifigs that were sold before a certain date (and not thereafter)
NEVER had "b" heads so their inventories are wrong. Those figures never came
in a set with a "b" head and therefore the policy of yore preferring the "b"
head just because one exists is not really justifiable and has lead to a lot
of confusion. And now with "c" heads it makes even less sense. We're talking
about a finite number of minifigs. Let's fix them.

There's really no gray here; wrong is wrong, even when it's been that
way for a long time.

Win/win no?

That sounds reasonable to me, although the current figures could still be fixed
to follow the convention. As long as no new entry uses the old number there would
be no problem with the logs, right?

You mean renumber the figure altogether and "retire" the old number? So cas081
is retired and the new one is cas538 and cas528s? Possible but confusing to
the sellers who don't know about the change.

My suggestion would make cas081 into cas081 for the stickered and cas081u for
the non-stickered version.

This is one of those "irreconcilable situations" I mention in this post:
http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=870374

I see that now - And it's especially irreconcilable in this case because
these classic castle figures have no unstickered entries like other similar figures
with vests. That means while there are several light gray 3840s with stickers
in the catalog, there is no plain light gray 3840. http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=883281

But plenty for sale so no issue there.

Do we know that a non-stickered version of those figs won't be approved?

Great project and beautiful pix. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe the issue is predictability and consistency.

We have a 3001 and 3001old in the catalog. Functionally identical (I believe),
but a distinction is made.

Should inventories be as correct or accurate as possible or not? Either way,
they should be consistent.

And while no one asks about the molds in your display, I do get asked by buyers
of vintage sets if the parts are correct (eg patent pending, pip location, etc.).
At the very least, a price guide that means anything needs to be based on consistency.
Sure the comments help, but if replacement parts are allowed in complete sets
then the price guide will get skewed down, which isn't accurate or fair.

I understand that the rule is (or was) no more undetermined items, that they
were remnants of the old days for variations that can't be confirmed. I
actually think every part with a variation should have an undertermined category
for buyers and sellers who don't care (even though those items won't
be linked to any set) and so that when a part is listed as a or b or c it actually
is.

And when the distinction is clear, like the a heads for classic space and castle,
the inventories should be correct. Also, eliminate the now outdated preference
for the b head.

Onward!

This is just my opinion.
I'd have one 2x4 for inventories and general use and then a reference chart
that shows introduction dates of differing variants and let sellers/re-creators
use that as a guide for which variants are correct for the age of the set.

There are few hard transition dates.

All the variants are there for use by sellers and buyers as they see fit. This
gives those who care the information and ability.

or from AFOLs are those original stickers?

Still, there are windows of predictability.

Did LEGO change the grays or browns prior to 2004? I know they mixed for a
while, but it's safe to assume that sets from the 90's and earlier are
always the old colors. And that sets that stopped being sold years before the
introduction of the "b" head never had that head in its inventory. Why let
the cusp situations control? And why continue with the "b" default?

I think the reason for this rule was to cover a shortcoming in the design of
the database which did not allow for alternate parts in Minifig inventories.

This was not an issue of not being able to do so, but an unwillingness to do
so. Dan could have programmed minifig inventories to have alternates, just like
he could have enabled counterparts to be selected when parting a set. But he
didn't. He had his reasons, I am sure, but one of them was *not* that it
couldn't be done.

Please fix it. Please update the inventory with the correct part.

I agree. At least the figs up to 1992 should have the solid stud head.

Nope it is more that LEGO rarely identifies mold variants* - even when it makes
a difference to a build. Sets are packed with what ever parts are on hand and
shipped out. Very common to get parts in different variants in the same package.

The idea that there is a 'right' inventory adds a level of 'black
and white' to these mold variants that LEGO never worked from.

Andy

And they don't always observe the color variants the way BL and other AFOLs
want to. Been discussed more than once that several 'different' colors
on BL are the same color internally at LEGO.

Maybe, but the early space and castle minifigs were only ever sold with the solid
stud "a" head.

And the preference for the "b" head was decided at a time when that was the current
head. For a "c" head only figure it would make no sense to only use the equivalent
"b" head (if there is one), yet that's the rule.

Maybe it's time for alternate parts to be allowed in minifig inventories
but if not, then maybe an "a", "b" etc suffix for variations, eg SP006a, SP006b,
etc.

Comments from Submitter:
This minifig last appeared in sets in 1987, before the hollow stud version of the standard grin minifig head was in production (c.1991)

I assume, you will then message 85 sellers to check their figs?

No, I will not.

Is that the reason these inventories have never been fixed? Because someone might
have relied on the wrong inventory when assembling their minifigs?

If so, it's not a very good reason.

Actually, it's because the way Minifigs have been inventoried in the past
has been placed in a Standards for Inventorying a Minifig 'rule': check
under 'heads'.

http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=200&q=minifig

The 'rule' is oudated as now there is a 'c'-type head... but
on old figs it has always been done like that, doens't mean you're not
right, but it's simply not done that way... Any change to such figs would
impact the listings of many sellers, probably the reason why this 'rule'
was made in the first place... Some sellers do specify the head type in their
listing.

I think this rule was made because otherwise there would be (at least) twice
as much Minifigs in the catalogue. Most Figs from the early days were released
with solid stud heads and later on with Hollow stud heads.

It's about the same as Santa right now.

There is a note on the catalog page for this figure:

Additional Notes:
Production of this minifigure ended in 1988, but some of the parts comprising
it have been in production since that time in modern variations. A figure composed
of parts completely authentic to the period would have a solid stud head as well
as a torso with small (or no) prongs for attachment to the legs. Buyers to whom
such details are important should verify with the seller before purchase. Likewise
sellers may wish to indicate if the minifigs they are listing are composed of
parts authentic to the period rather than modern replacement parts.

But I agree that the rule makes no sense, never did, and should be changed.

In the version of Chrome I'm using on some version of Windows there's
a settings box in the top right corner of the browser (it's 3 stacked horizontal
lines) and when you click it, it offers, among other options, the ability to
zoom in or out of a page. If I click down to 90%, I can see tabs in BL stores.

Of course not everyone will like updates and changes to the site, but this thread

BL, why choose sloppy programming?

Forget about the Bricklink address.

If the Paypal "ship to" address is in the US and you're paid in dollars,
then it's a domestic sale. I actually prefer this over shipping internationally
as delivery confirmation is much more reliable domestically. And all you
need to defeat a Paypal claim is the delivery confirmation (or proof of
signature over a certain amount). I've done a bunch of these here and on
ebay and they're quick and easy every time.

In Suggestions, cosmicray writes:
  In Suggestions, connie writes:
  In Suggestions, cosmicray writes:
Please make PayPal acceptance into two types (either of which the seller can
specify).

One would be 'seller accepts PayPal from buyer's country'

The other would be 'seller accepts PayPal from seller's country'

The first indicates that you accept cross-border PayPal, the second says you
do not.

This suggestion is a result of a growing number of orders that I have received,
where the buyer is physically in another country, has a US based re-shipper specified
as the buyer's address, but wants to pay with cross-border PayPal. Buyers
are using the address field to try to circumvent the country list that the seller
will ship to, when in reality the situation is more than where the seller ships
to, it is also a cross-border payment issue.

Thank you.

Is this because you don't want overseas buyers at all? I have customers
that live on the border of Canada and have a PO Box in the US. Many international
customers also have US orders all combined at one US shipper, usually Portland.
So is your main concern you do not want to receive payments that come from a
different country?

Connie

It isn't so much I want, or do not want, overseas customers. It's more
a side effect of accepting those payments, and that they represent a higher risk
payment from PayPal's perspective. This is not an issue about the extra 1%
fee.

The problem with BL is that there is only one address. That address is being
used to represent the shipping address. The way that BL uses that address (for
multiple purposes) makes the member look like they are physically in a country,
where they are not. BL should really have two addresses, one for the member's
actual home, and one for shipping destination. The feedback member card should
show the member's home location, not so much where they want it shipped to.

As I do not accept cross-border PayPal, the problem I'm running into lately,
is primarily with buyers in HK, JP, KR, and CN. They find a US reshipper, open
a BL account, plug in the reshipper address (US typically) and then start placing
orders. In many cases English is not their native language, so they don't
see (or understand) about the cross border payment issue, or what payment
I do accept. Turning off all the other countries does no good, because they look
like they are in the US, when they are not.

I'm asking for a way for BL to warn them off, before actually placing the
order. To do that, BL needs to know where they actually are sending payments
from, not so much where they want it shipped to.

This sort, which is the This Part Appears in X Sets instantly shows parts that
are unique in a particular color. I know nothing about programming, but it would
seem that the info is already here to compile a list where only 1 set exists
for any particular part and color combination. A 3rd party may be able to create
this by downloading the catalog, no?

(another forum poster suggested that since we already have a MOST common parts

into account color, leaves out parts in colors that never appeared in any set,
and includes more than 25 in the list)

This will be very helpful to me and others, as noted in this thread: http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=842426

I have a huge bin of my childhood LEGO, and unfortunately I did not keep all
of my instructions. This list would be very helpful in figuring out which sets
I have. For example,

Part No: 2826 Name: Windscreen 5 x 8 x 3
*
2826 Windscreen 5 x 8 x 3
Parts: Windscreen
only appeared in dark blue in 1 set. I have this

Set No: 6175 Name: Crystal Explorer Sub
*
6175-1 (Inv) Crystal Explorer Sub
152 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1995
Sets: Aquazone: Aquanauts

Thank you for your consideration!!

Ruth

I agree - from a timeliness standpoint can this be done with other tools?

I don't know how extensive the BL API is ... Is this something that can be
teased out of the database through the API commands?

Brickfininty runs a much more complex set of queries so I would think this level
of search is not that hard.

From a logic stand point:
part 1 color 1 if set appearance =1 then add to list
next
part 1 color 2 etc
repeat

The reality is a list like this could be updated monthly (or weekly) to keep
up with new part appearances, but does not really need to be a dynamic list.

What about rebrickable?

I have looked at rebrickable, but could not find how to make such a search of
this kind.
-Ruth

There are different rules for listing new and used sets as complete or incomplete.

New Sets
Complete - Contents are brand new and may have been removed from their plastic
bags and handled for inventorying purposes only. Includes all contents that originally
came with set including extra parts, stickers, instructions (if any) and original
box/packaging.

Incomplete - Contents are brand new and may have been removed from their plastic
bags and handled for inventorying purposes or during the removal of items from
the set. Set is missing some contents, instructions or original box/packaging.
Description should state what exactly is missing.

Used Sets - The set has been opened, inner bags are no longer intact and or was
previously built. If the parts do show excessive wear, discoloration, excessive
scratches, other marks, etc. this should be noted, as well.

Complete - Set contains all parts necessary to build all of the models (including
alternate models) in the instructions but does not have to contain the original
box/packaging and/or extra parts. If the set is missing instructions, the description
must state so. If the set did not come with instructions then the set should
include all parts listed in the picture inventory which is located on the box
or bucket. The set must include all original stickers used on the model either
still on the sticker sheet or applied.

Incomplete - Set is missing some contents. Description should state what exactly
is missing.

Full rules here: http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=102

And as someone pointed out, you can easily exclude incomplete sets from the Price
Guide with one click, and you can even set it that way by default:

http://www.bricklink.com/priceGuideSettings.asp

So nothing to fix here, other than sets that are listed incorrectly. Now if
you want to change a rule, let's talk about incomplete minifigures....

In Suggestions, Pazzo writes:

somehow...(even bigger and experienced sellers) want to sell a set that just
isn't a set!

How much can one take from a set before it doesn't qualify as a set anymore.

After all those years of Bricklink, why aren't there easy rules for this?

I understand when a box is missing, it is incomplete, or when a few parts are
gone...it is incomplete....

But listing a set without the box, instructions, minifigs and weapons doesn't
leave more than a handfull of bricks....NOT a set!

for example:

http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?pg=1&itemID=99724&advOpt=Y&sz=100&searchSort=P

when you click on only new sets.... personally I think the first 11 do NOT qualify
as a set!

And I understand when you are a newbee...perhaps you did not know the definition
of a set, but this is getting out of hand!

just my 2 cent incomplet set (it used to be a dollar set, but I took 98 cents
for own use)

be cool and have fun!

Great idea. And there's another way to achieve this without having to do
programming. It's by requiring each store to have a unified fee disclosure
chart, like you see for nutrients of food packages and on credit card bills.

Exactly.

There are lots of work-arounds, but a true "Free Shipping" coupon would be great.
Hence the Suggestion...

There's a choice for a set amount coupon or a percentage off, either a flat
percent off the total order or over certain amounts with the ability to set a
max discount and the ability to limit the discount to certain types of items.

I'd like to be able to create free shipping coupons, also with limits like
we have for the percentage coupon, such as limiting the free shipping to minifigs
only, or a new feature, being able to exclude certain items, such as sets.

It would also help if the existing "limit discount to" wasn't limited to
1 category.

Thanks!

why not just invoice without a shipping cost?

I'm thinking because the coupon would be the incentive given in thoughtful
and limited quantities for particular reasons; not a blanket offer to all of
Bricklinkdom.

I just searched through hundreds of retired sets, and could not find one with
the MSRP link. Could someone please link to one for me?

Thank you,

I think the problem is the link to S@H, not the info itself. It's helpful
reference info. I look at MSRP at Brickset often. And why limit it just to
sets that are still on the market from LEGO? That makes no sense. Maybe have
a link on the catalog page to another page with the MSRP's from each market
when the set was new. So the info isn't on the main item page, but available
at BL, without external links. And I think your disclaimer Troy is also necessary.

In fairness, it WAS suggested. Why they chose this suggestion, out of all of
them, to implement is beyond me though.

And to implement it as they did, without taking into consideration WHY it had
not been implemented in the past, is also beyond me.

If they want to be a complete database site, I can see adding this information.
But I would limit to older discontinued items, where a price differential can
be expected. And the wording is just terrible.

Better text:

"When this set was released on 2010 the Manufacturers' Suggested Retail Price
was $99.99. Be advised that in the secondary market prices are determined by
supply and demand and may be significantly more than MSRP."

Agreed.

And a little self-restraint wouldn't hurt.

Or more simply, you can't argue with crazy.

Always wondered though why sellers would assemble a minifig when parting a set.

I under stand that some minifigs come assembled. I'm referring to the vast
majority that don't.

I have purchased minifigures a few times on Bricklink and some sellers ship what
they label as "New" minifigures in assembled form.
I feel that any Lego piece that is intentionally assembled is not new but used.
Period.

There needs to be an indicator that seller select when listing minifigs:

NEW (unassembled)
ASSEMBLED (not played with)
USED (played with or shows play wear)

I don't and never will call assembled Legos "new".

And I'm sick of buying so called "new" minifigs.

I shouldn't have to waste time messaging a seller about whether or not a
minifig is loose or assembled. Not to mention they could lie and disassemble
prior to shipping (though the "neck" of the torso would show signs that a head
had once been attached.

When I buy "NEW" I want it to be NEW.

Thanks.

The rules are quite clear in this respect.......

New Minifigs - Minifigs are brand new, taken directly from new sets or were
purchased "as new" in another form such as accessory packs or Pick A Brick and
have been handled only for sorting. Minifigs may be listed as new either assembled
or unassembled.

Yes that was it, and he had a large quantity of the 1x1 dark red bricks as well.

  Hello,

Thank you all for your suggestions. But what I am actually asking about, is not
the actual price for a specific piece but rather, the price per piece for any
set.

To explain further, if a set has 300 pieces and the cost is 30$, then the price
per piece or PPP would be 30$/300pieces=10cents.

Doing the parting thing you referred to is very time consuming and will also
not achieve the result I am looking for.

Now I am well aware that this is not a way to get precise details as some pieces
(like motors and stuff) can skew the PPP drastically, but it is a good way to
compare sets when you have NO special sets or pieces in mind and care only about
numbers of pieces you can get.

Brickset gives a price per part average for sets based on their suggested retail
list price.

  Hello,

From my 3 years experience surfing the site and making orders, I have run into
a number of issues and scenarios that I would like to share with you as enhancement
suggestions:
- setting an option to display the price per part. This should be useful for
buyers who want to buy based on this criterion or for resellers who want to part
out specific sets.
- setting an option to display set color percentages. This should be useful to
buyers who are concentrating on buying a specific color by purchasing relevant
sets.
- adding a search or browse option where buyers can browse items in all fields
based on price. This should be helpful for buyers with tight budgets who are
looking for something that may be interesting and are budget limited.
- adding a custom search field where buyers can set the criteria they want to
do the search for.

I am sure the above suggestions will help buyers make more intelligent decisions.

If you're paying with Paypal, that service gives you the option of multiple shipping
addresses provided they're all in your country of billing. Many sellers here
will only ship to the Paypal address as there is no seller protection from chargebacks
when they ship to a different address, even if its your Bricklink address.
