Test before release. This concept is not hard. Perhaps in your eagerness to
pacify the crowd with pitchforks and torches you have forgotten it. Perhaps you
may just not know.

Did anyone in the pitchfork crowd ask for a Chinese translation of the website?
Just 0.3% of the site's users are from China.

Between that and the MOC shop, it's fairly obvious the opinions of the pitchfork
crowd aren't being considered.

I'm assuming it's the extra 1% in Paypal fees, although that seems a
poor reason to refuse international customers..

If I ever receive an order from you, I'll make sure to include some passages
from Flying Spaghetti Monster bible, describing the beer volcanoes and stripper
factories awaiting all those who have been touched by his noodly appendage. Or
perhaps I should include quotes from the Quran?

Do you begin to see why it's inappropriate to include such material?

neutral feedback almost seems generous, yet is probably the right one.

I don't believe much in forum's suggestions, but you never know...

The API lets us do "mass creation" of lots, but we can't do a "mass update"
to perform operations such as updating the prices of all lots at once.

We could send a bunch of "update inventory", a call for each lot, but then any
big seller will hit the limit of 5000 calls / day easily.

Can we please either get an API call for mass updates, or raise the limit of
5000 calls/day?

The software I'm writing will be free and open source once complete and tested
enough, so I don't really want just my personal limit of 5000 raised (as
the API docs suggest one can ask).

Thank you.

A useful Price Guide feature would be price and sale trends in a graph. Similar
to what you find on Swappa (see attached).

This would be especially useful for new parts and minifigs as they settle into
their natural supply-and-demand averages. It would also be helpful to have a
visual on how prices for old parts behave when new sets hit the market containing
parts that haven't been available retail for a while.

Would love that feature. It's possible to get the information for the past
6 months by parsing the whole price guide page (catalogPG.asp, not priceGuide.asp),
but this generates far more traffic than necessary...

Looking back 2-3 years would be interesting too.

not want it.

It's about time people realize we have no say whatsoever in how BrickLink
is run. This isn't a community-driven website anymore. Management will work
on whatever they want, such as this MOC shop, which no one had asked for.

Perhaps we'll now see fewer endless and ultimately pointless debates in the
forum?

As a Canadian buyer, I'm seeing the Canadian MSRP, so that seems to be working

I'm hoping that buyers for countries where MSRP information is not available

A pretty straight forward suggestion that would remove the MSRP label from sets
once they are retired by LEGO.

This is really an optics issue, I believe most buyers would have a hard time
justifying the price paid for a retired set with the presumably lower MSRP staring
them in the face.

Joe

I would prefer to leave the MSRP, but also showing when the set has retired (year
and month). That should make it clear that it can no longer be found at that
price.

harming the reputation of the site, scaring away newcomers.

The debate in the forum are necessary and understandable. But imho they are mostly
for admins and sellers, and not a benefit for the common buyer.

So this is my proposal:
Lets have a closed forum for sellers and admins, where the details of the BL
maschine room can be debated. And a forum for everybody where we can discuss
the joy of lego, help newbies and so on.

I think that's a terrible idea, you are basically saying that you want buyers
out of the debates.

The forum should just be better organized. A newcomer should easily find a "Help"
forum where questions are asked and answered, not the current mess of every topic
being mixed together in an unsorted list.

I strongly disagree with #2 and #3. I want standardized text invoices, no fancy
graphics or PDFs with each store having its own style. By saving all the text
file invoices, I'm able to locate (grep, etc.) any purchase instantly, and
much more.

In Suggestions, helge writes:
I would like a number of improvements for customizing invoices.

1. Possibility to have several different customized invoices. The different types
of invoices would be triggered by country of the customer and/or the payment
type. Personally I would like to have one for Norwegian customers and two for
international customers.

2. More possibilities (or easier for us non-programmers) to customize invoices;
ability to put in shop logos, background pictures, font types, font sizes…

3. Option for sending out the invoices as pdf files in an email. This file could
also be linked to the order, and be accessible from the order summary page for
both seller and buyer.

4. Possibility to have some text at the top or bottom of each page of the
invoice, and page numbering. Actually I would like the possibility to have all
the text except for the Items in order list and the sums of the order list on
each page.

5. Option to have the part number on the Items in order list.

6. Items in order list: Have the part no, text, quantity, price and total price
for each item in separate columns.

7. Add the possibility to issue a full or partial credit note when cancelling
orders or when removing items from orders that has been invoiced. Personally
as a professional seller it is now too much manual work, and I need to involve
my (expensive) accountant to get things correct for my accounting. As with invoices
there should be possible to have several customized credit notes.

8. Add option for auto numbering of invoices. This is a legal requirement in
many countries. The number sequence must be seller specific and count up for
each invoice or credit note. The seller must have the possibility to set the
starting number in the sequence.

I think it is long overdue to have Bricklink invoices look more professional
than what currently is possible. If some of the above is possible today, please
improve the help section so that it easier to find out how to do things.

Helge

BrickLink Forum with Mr. Kim's direct participation. Face-to-face Roundtables
in Europe, the USA and elsewhere help. But they are not enough, impractical and
too costly for many to attend.

I'm not sure the forum is the best medium, what about a Google+ Hangout or
something similar? That's as close as a face-to-face round table as we can
get.

Scam sellers hide behind anonymity. Verifying a person removes complete anonymity.

Why are people so against simply verifying a person really is a person?

And how do you propose we do that?

Scammers are clever enough to use Photoshop/Gimp and create fake scans of whatever
official document may be asked. Do you have a way of looking that up in government
databases?

All this would just give buyers a false sense of security.

BrickLink should have preventive mechanisms in *code* to limit the abuse, preventing
further orders of being placed in a store whenever things appear suspicious (until
a human review is done).

We probably all agree that something should be done, this is a very serious problem
hurting BrickLink's reputation and buyers.

Sadly, any kind of verification process or minimum feedback can be tricked (scammers
placing dummy orders with each other?). Strict controls will never work, we need
a more intelligent solution.

Bricklink should have a clever algorithm in place, watching over inventories
and orders. It's not hard to recognize suspicious activiy by any algorithm
with access to all of BrickLink's data. Believe me, if a human can recognize
a scam, so can an algorithm, and far more so.

I'm a software programmer, and if BrickLink were open-source, I would gladly
write and submit such a patch. This is easy.

Absolutely! I'll support this suggestion if improper syntax and punctuation are

French literature ought to be abolished.

I also suggest that our forum moderators minimally possess a PhD in some field

No, it would not be ok. And the reason for that, or rather, the distinction
between clone and custom, is a matter of production scale and the nature of the
entity behind that production.

Fully agreed.

Speaking strictly as a buyer, I really enjoy having easy access on bricklink
to pieces such as custom-made aluminium technic pieces (liftarms, axles, gears).
Please don't forbid them!
