Today when I logged on to Bricklink, I realized that 20 years and 2 days ago,
4/20/2004 I created my account AND placed my first order. 20 years!

Thank you to Dan Jezek for designing Bricklink all those decades ago!

Thank you Bricklink for without this marketplace I would not have had a viable
business model that has worked for 20 years.

Thank you to the countless stores across the world that have provided me with
excellent service!

Thank you to the Community (both in chat & forum) for all the questions answered,
the laughs, the Pizza & Mustard wars, the long debates, the catalog adds & changes,
and a place to go to feel included.

I look forward to the next 20 years whatever they may bring.

Forever grateful,

Congrats and well said

Nope.

A set that is reserved shows "Inventory In Progress".

Right, now you’re saying it, I remember I have seen that sometimes

(Still can’t swear it was for these two sets   I need to buy me a “dash cam”
and record everything I do )

A set that is being worked on or is complete and pending approval shows "Inventory
Pending Approval".

Both conditions are poorly labeled.

+1
Seems there should be three conditions too: reserved, WIP, pending approval.

I don't recall ever seeing these inventories pending approval. They may have
been reserved, but they weren't pending.

Doesn’t the set’s page show “pending approval” either way?

I was just waiting for these inventories to check I had the colours right in
Studio, without having to check the element IDs from the instructions one by
one
But I’m not sure I looked at the pending inventories for these ones.  I think
I did but I may be confusing with other sets 🤔

Hi all,

I was just wondering¹ what happened with

Set No: 21348 Name: Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale
*
21348-1 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale
2024
Sets: LEGO Ideas (CUUSOO): Dungeons & Dragons
and

Set No: 60439 Name: Space Science Lab
*
60439-1 Space Science Lab
2024
Sets: Town: City: Space Exploration

These sets had inventories pending approval for some time… and now they don’t
have anything.
Was there something wrong?  Did the submitters gave up?

(¹ Not an “I need to part them out! do your job! chop chop!” rant, I’m just puzzled.)

I just turned my computer on today, opened my browser (chrome with tabs open

I got an email from bricklink (blservice@bricklink.com) with the one time code
thing just wondering if this could be cause for alarm, or I think its more
likely a random occurance or something similar.
I think it was sent due to me opening my browser with bricklink tabs open, or
could it be something to do with BLS manager (I only got it a few days ago to
see if i can use it to download my Brick Owl store orders to Brickstore).
I'm hoping its not a sign of a security issue.

Hi,

The one time code depends on “your machine” and is only valid for a month.
“Your machine” is identified by several supposedly invariable data (I don’t know
what BL is using).  If you used another browes, or if the cookies were deleted,
or if the month is out, then you need a new OTC.  Updating your OS and/or your
browser may also change the identity of “your machine.”

Some people have deactivated the OTC because they were asked for it too often
(the identifying data isn’t ‘invariable’ enough in their cases).

Hi,

I had to cancel your post: link to sites selling LEGO are forbidden here.

Also, the Suggestions topic is for suggestions about the website.  Questions
about the catalogue are better placed in the Catalog topics or in the more general
Help section.

As for the part you linked to, sorting trays are in the Gear section.  You should
find it here: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=G&catString=1092

parts (example: chair with center sprue mark or without )
I had seen the news that the differences were going to be removed, but I would
like to see them. I hope I'm clear enough

That part has already been merged.  There’s no difference in the inventories
now, so we can’t know which variant came in which sets

To see the difference between the parts, there’s often comparison images on the
part’s page.

Though, there doesn’t seem to be a comparison image for 4079
But some pics show the sprue and others not, for instance on

Part No: 4079 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Seat / Chair 2 x 2

4079 Minifigure, Utensil Seat / Chair 2 x 2
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil {Dark Bluish Gray}
, the
first pics are without sprue and the third one shows it.

EasyBuy is easy but dumb.  Use the Buy page instead (Buy All button in a WL or
hover over the white heart-shaped icon and click Buy when the menu appers).
On the Buy page, you can use Auto-select that’ll give similar results to EasyBuy,
just with a couple clicks more.
Bonuses:
— you can select multiple lists,
— there’s filters (location…),
— you can even cherry-pick lots in multiple WLs (using the Wanted Items tab on
the left).

As for merging lists, yes, it’s been missing and we asked for it since the inception
of the “new” Wanted List pages, in 2016.
As a workaround, you can ‘merge’ WLs by downloading your lists and uploading
them into a new one.
Not very user-friendly but you then don’t need to use or create a tool to do
it.

A question about the wanted list.

I have included a red brick 2x3 with price set to the lego price. Require say
100 bricks.

I have also inclued brick 2x3 of any colour (N/A) set to a requirement of 200
bricks.

When I buy all and select the top store does this show different combination
of colours of 2x3 bricks starting with the cheapest price, then the next cheapest
and so on until it makes up 200 ?

Hi,

Nope.  Unfortunately

If you search your WL in a store, you’ll be shown all the lots of 2x3 that have
at least 200 bricks.
If you use the Auto-fill options, _all_ the lots will end up in your cart (so,
if there’s 10 lots, you’ll get 2,000 bricks in the cart!).

If you use Auto-select or EasyBuy, the algorithm will choose a lot in a store
with 200 2x3 bricks in one colour.
I’ve no idea whatsoever how that lot is chosen.  Tests have proven it’s not the
cheapest in the store, and it’s not the ‘first’ in the store (in any way you
define ‘first’).  And it’s even worse (price-wise) if there’s multiple stores
in the selection.

IOW: N/A is okay when it’s just about finding stores, but it’s not good when
you want to ‘buy’ automatically.

Also: just try.  It costs nothing but a little time

If you have an XML and there are items in that xml that not found can you upload

For some reason a Moc I purchased must have either an old colour or part number
and it blocks the import, I can edit the xml but curios if there is a simple
tick box option?

Hi,

The problem would be a old part number (due to a renaming or a merge)… and there’s
no way to correct that on the website

I think BrickStore could be able to automatically correct your XML file… or at
least it’ll have a simple and easy to use interface to find the correct part.

Yes, we know that inventory needs some work.

The "extra" arches are actually shown in the instructions:
http://www.peeron.com/scans/6074-1/16

Ah yes, I see them now the sun is out… and that I was told to look there

The same alternate build is also shown on the box, bottom right corner: https://brickshelf.com/gallery/Jojo/Alternatives/alt-6074-1.jpg

Hmm, to put these arches on the ‘manor’ part, you need other small parts that
are not in the inventory: a 1x2 brick, 2x 1x1 plates and 2x (1 or 2)x3 plates….

You could do without the (1 or 2)x3 plates with the Extra 1x2 and 2x2….

And you can get one 2x3 if you can use the (1 and 2)x10 plates instead of the
(1x2)x8 ones on the walkway… but it doesn’t seem like they did that on the pic.

A head-scatcher….

How much data space would it take to have two catalogs? One for detailed data
and one for generalized marketplace?

The problem isn’t space, it’s consistency and workload.

Basically, you’re doubling the workload.

If you make a change in one of the catalogues, should it be echoed on the other
one?  To which extent?  Can that be automatized?

In the software world, that’s called a fork (external / by another team) or a
branch (internal / by the same team).
We have tools and procedures to follow and “port” (transfer, apply) changes between
branches / versions / forks (‘diffs’ and ‘patches’ and ‘version control system’
(git, bitkeeper, mercurial…)).
And those tools are good and ‘smart.’  They can work around other changes and
differences that shouldn’t change (and (good) devs are lazy: everything that
can be automatized is automatized).
But we ALWAYS need to check the changes.  The changes may apply without a hitch…
but they may break the program because they contradict an older change.  That
can also be automatized, to some extent.  But it’s work again and you can never
predict everything so you always need to check.

Duplicating a database and the changes on the database can be automitized in
the same way: changes are just instructions, like a program.  So the same porting
solutions & problems apply: Should that change be applied?  Can it be applied?
Should another change be applied instead?  And you always need to check, check,
check.
Also, you first need to record these instructions.  AFAIK, BrickLink’s changelogs
aren’t complete / sufficient.

TL;DR: It’s the same as the work done by Rebrickable: another catalogue, with
conversion tables, with changes to follow / apply or not, with errors or misses…,
and with a full team to manage it.
It could be a bit simpler and you could save a bit by keeping it inside BrickLink,
but that won’t remove most of the work needed.

Another possibility is to handle that in only one “catalogue,” with two (or more!)
different ways to present its info.  The work would be done only once, in the
more detailed catalogue, and there would be mechanisms to hide the details to
the users.  But that’s the same as the “umbrella part” solution: you need to
change the whole structure of the database and the way the site works. That
can’t be patched onto what exists now (which is already patched enough with spaghetti
and sauce as it is).

  Hello,

I'm looking at building up the parts for the UCS Y-Wing (2nd edition, 75181).
I already have set 75172 which is the play scale Y-Wing which I'm looking
at breaking down to give me some of the parts for the UCS scale version.

Is their a way, without going through it line by line, to part out the pieces
from the playscale set into my UCS wanted list?

Many thanks,

Hi,

To part out a set: hover over the white, heart-shaped “Want” icon and click “Part
Out”: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/partout.page

But you can’t “apply” a Wanted List (or an inventory) to another one on BrickLink,
to remove the parts you already have.  You need to use third-party tools, like
BrickStore (application) or Rebrickable (website).

Instruction No: 6074 Name: Black Falcon's Fortress

6074-1 Black Falcon's Fortress

So, according to the rules, at least these two should be Regular 🤔

And there’s already three LG plates (a 1x10, a 2x2, and a 2x10) in Regular that
are not needed for the main build and that are not visible on the alternate.
The plot thickens 🤔

Maybe there's a language barrier at play here, but this is not tax fraud.

AIUI:

If the amount paid/pocketed includes the tax:
— The seller is collecting tax money when they aren’t authorized to and have
no way to remit it.  That is tax fraud.
— The buyer is giving the tax money to the seller, who, again, is neither authorized
to collect it nor in any capacity to remit it.  Knowingly or not, that is tax
fraud.

(From what was said, the seller is taking the tax.  So this is the situation
discussed here.)

If the amount paid/pocketed doesn’t include the tax:
— The buyer is not paying the tax they owe.  That is tax evasion, a.k.a tax fraud.
— The seller is helping the buyer not paying the tax.  That’s helping and abetting
tax evasion.  Tax fraud.

Hi,

Sorry but:
You can’t advertise items that are not for sale in a store.
You need to open a store.
And, yes, you need some feedback first and that means buying something.
These are the rules.

  Hi,

I sell items from Vietnam. Some orders sold to Germany
automatically added VAT.
How can I eliminate the VAT since it is
International sales?

Thank you!

You can't eliminate VAT - it will be collected either by BrickLink (if the
order is under 150 euro) or by customs in the buyer's country (if the order
is 150 euro or more).

To be clear: it’s German Import VAT, not Vietnam VAT.

BrickLink collects taxes from the buyers in these situations:
— US Sales tax: most US buyers, when they buy from any seller for any amount,
— UK import VAT: UK buyers, when they buy from non-UK sellers for less than £135
(items total),
— EU import VAT: EU buyers, when they buy from non-EU sellers for less than €150
(items total).
— Australian GST: AU buyers, when they buy from non-AU sellers for less than
AU $1,000 (items total).
— New Zealand GST: NZ buyers, when they buy from non-NZ sellers for less than
NZ $1,000 (by item).
— Norway import VAT: NO buyers, when they buy from non-NO sellers for less than
NOK 3,000 (by item).

UK/NO/EU VAT and AU/NZ GST are directly paid by the buyer for other amounts.
Domestically (intra-UK, intra-NO, intra-EU, intra-AU, or intra-NZ), it’s handled
by the sellers when necessary.

Thank you very much! That solved the issue. It was indeed an item I'd added
15 minutes before the problem started. I have no idea how the item got added
twice; I should've received an error message.

One sure thing that creates duplicates is when parts are merged in the catalogue.

Hi and welcome

The admins moderate the designs according to these guidelines: https://studiohelp.bricklink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042355033-Studio-Gallery-submission-guidelines

Until a design is accepted, it’s “Display Only.”

For your two public designs, you clearly state you’ve copied someone else’s intellectual
property.  They’ll stay Display Only.

If you have posted another design, and it has been set to Private, then check
the guidelines link above to understand why.

For more info, contact support: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/help/contact.page

(FYI, Discussions Moderators don’t moderate the designs.  I’m just answering
as a member.)
