We highly encourage sellers to keep OTP enabled for added account protection.

I highly encourage BrickLink to find another way to give PA or important information
than posting in a Forum read by 1% users and at 22:43 EDT or 3:43 Paris time

IT: Hey guys? Should we send out an email to let users know we're going to
enable OTP for everyone?
Manager: Nah, just post it in the forum.
IT: What forum?

Whilst I have no problem with being BrickLink's guinea pig however given
the recent warnings about phishing emails targeting BrickLink users, I figured
that it would be best to check if this is a legitimate email before signing up.

The Sign up! link goes to an Office 365 form that asks questions including Name,
Email address and BrickLink username.

Could someone from BrickLink please advise if BrickLink has indeed been sending
out such emails, or is someone else up to no good?

This is a legitimate email from our BrickLink team. Please sign up if you are
interested.

Thanks!

Heres a simple answer, you can't post a link if you have no feedback.

No feedback, no links. People asking for help don't need to post links to
get help.

Can't, can't, can't. Two words that means no hard work will ever

Mine's from blservice@bricklink.com, so I'm pretty sure it can
be trusted unless BrickLink's email servers have been hacked.

Sorry to say but that can be forged.  Scammers generally don’t bother to (especially
as they don’t want you to answer the e-mail and make the official site aware
of their shenanigans).

The DKIM-Signature is more secure but it needs to be verified: you can’t do it
‘manually.’  That depends on your mail provider.
Mails that don’t pass the verification don’t make it to your mailbox.

  […]
You can also hover your cursor (don't click) over the link/button to see
the exact URL where it leads.

Well, that doesn’t tell much more as BL is using mailchimp and trackers and whatnot.

If you hover over the link/button, you see something like
(https://)bricklink.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=(digits and letters)&id=(ditto)&e=(ditto)
Rather cryptic.

Now, if you look at the text-only version of the e-mail, the link is (https://)forms.office.com/e/(ID)
So you at least know you’re being redirected to an MSOffice form… but that doesn’t
tell you anything more on who created it and that doesn’t prevent you from entering
the name of your luggage or the code for your first pet.

Can anyone actually confirm for the OP if this email is legit?

Then why aren't they doing it?

Why would the spend potentially thousands of dollars (or more) so that the 20-50
of us who use the forums don’t see a couple spam posts a day? The real question
is why would they. If you hide canceled posts or just ignore them it in no way
affects the usage

I really don't care about forum spam. But I do care that the OP is concerned
about security and the reply to that was making the point that if BL can't
keep out spam from the form, how can they keep our accounts secure? These are
valid concerns, and shouldn't just be dismissed by BL apologists who assume
the cost is too high for security. It's a really simple point that should
be supported by everyone, not belittled.

How do I hold BrickLink's feet to the fire? I am just a chicken, thousands
of miles away.

Then why aren't they doing it?

As I said, it's not necessarily worth it to prevent a relatively small amount
of relatively harmless spam, especially when the developers have other priorities.

That being said, if the spam does get out of control, then it might justify some
sort of technical solution, but everyone's tolerance for spam is different.
I don't mind a bit of salt.

Are they? How sure are you? Is it on their roadmap? https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2547&q=roadmap

Oh, wait, there is nothing on their roadmap???

How am I to know? I'm not a programmer and I don't work for BrickLink.
I don't know what happens in Irvine. All I can do is guess.

Communication is nice, but I'd rather the developers focus on getting stuff
done than on sharing their work with a public that doesn't really understand
software development. At least they bother to update it with past updates.

We should in fact demand more accountability and communication from BL and we
shouldn't stop until they do. That's how things start to get better.
If we just pretend everything will work out in the end, it never will, and we'll
just have to put up with more and more problems. This forum is the best public
way to hold BL's feet to the fire. So instead of going "chicken",
demand better from the company that runs the community we are all responsible
for.

For me it may be 8 months!
I’d better be quiet now.

The Bricklink team has to play a very difficult balancing act. Unless you've
walked in their shoes you can't understand the challenges they face.

I've supported some of the largest web sites on the internet, but I'd
be a fool to think I know the Bricklink teams' challenges or how to solve
them.

Sometimes it's best to practice "The Thumper Rule".

That is so untrue. Your profile says you're american, the land of the free,
right? Well here's a pep-talk. America didn't become free without people
who were willing to stand up and do something. Same goes for Bricklink, which
we all pay a fee to use, which gives us a say. If no one says anything, no one
is ever held accountable. If you want to see a community succeed, you have to
be part of it, not just sit on the sidelines and watch while it falls apart.
If you see something, say something, better yet, do something, or the freedoms
you take for granted will disappear. Bricklink's challenges are your challenges.
The thumper rule is for the uninvolved - get involved - care about the LEGO community
- be an american hero! (GI-JOE?)

it was incomplete and receiving just one sticker that was obviously pulled off
a piece, shipped on a felt backer, and was dirty on the sticky side (which was
no longer sticky). I’m just having a hard time understanding if this is an intended
use case for stickers on BL (regardless of the condition i received my sticker
in).

Ah, I see. If the seller didn't add an extended description letting buyers
know that the sticker was used and then pulled off of a part and was unable
to be restuck, then that seller had a bad listing.

Sellers can list anything as used, but if it's unable to function how it's
intended to, then they have to describe that in the item's extended description.
Of course, used stickers are far more unlikely to be reused than parts,
gear, etc, so it's even more important for sellers to describe those accurately.

David

OK, I see that sticker sheets can be sold if incomplete as used: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=102

I don't think selling stickers peeled off lego parts and sold as incomplete
sticker sheets should be a thing. To me, it seems misleading. They should be
listed on the parts they were found on as stickered parts. If that part isn't
in the catalog, add it. This is a lazy loophole that should be fixed.

Since LEGO stickers are not intended to be removed (they are not marketed as
reusable as far as I know), why can they be listed after removal from a part?
Doesn't make sense to me. I suppose you can list broken lego parts if they
are clearly marked that way, and maybe that's the justification, but why?

A sticker sheet is a physical thing. If the original sticker sheet from lego
is absent, then can a few peeled off stickers from that sticker sheet still be
called a sticker sheet? I don't believe expectations are being met by listing
peeled off stickers as used sticker sheets.

Please tell me why i'm wrong.

Look at my listing for the stickers I mentioned. Nothing misleading. Also if
you had an understanding of the complex assembly they were applied to would help.
Not just across 2 bricks. Take in account there were 6 sheets for sale priced
$12-$25 I figured someone would be happy to get these for the $6. If there were
individual sticker listings I would have used that but the way I did it is the
best option available.

Arg... my ipad ran out of juice and I lost my reply. Here it is in a nutshell:

You are not trying to be misleading, you are doing everything you can within
the confines of listing stickers to present the truth.

However, when one is buying a used sticker sheet, I don't think the assumption
is that the buyer will receive stickers that have already been stuck on parts
and then peeled off with no sticker sheet included. That's why peeled off
stickers are not mentioned at all on the condition listing help page. LEGO stickers
are not marketed as reusable and in most cases, they are not. Sticker backing
glue cannot be measured to guarantee stickiness.

Also, when taking a picture of the stickers, you can't post two photos showing
the front and back, so it's not actually full disclosure.

The limitation here is that there is no category for stickers outside the sticker
sheet (nor am I advocating for that). So that means being misleading is inherent
to listing stickers without a sticker sheet.

The requirement states:

"Sticker sheets missing stickers must be listed as used."

To me that's vague enough to include re-applied peeled off stickers.

That’s talking about sticker sheets - so one would think the original sticker
sheet is included and some stickers are missing. It’s not talking about previously
applied stickers at all. It’s not vague, per say, just not addressing this issue.

edk makes a good point:

"Carefully removed, adhesive stayed with the stickers, placed them on a waxy
backer
sheet, scanned an image and listed as used. I do not see a problem with this
method."

If there was a listing for just that sticker then, yes that makes sense, but
there isn’t. This would be listed as a used sticker sheet. Where’s the sticker
sheet in this equation. Was this the intention of sticker sheet listings?

Also, what about high quality stickers that were applied to the wrong part?

What about high quality parts that are broken… i throw them out personally -
because i wouldn't be happy to receive it.

As long as the seller says that they've been removed from parts and lists
the stickers as used, then I think it's within the rules. However, I can't
imagine anyone wanting to by such stickers, unless they're really old or
rare ones.

David

Right, I guess it’s a two part question:
1. is selling incomplete sticker sheets allowed?
2. Is selling stickers pulled off pieces allowed?

So this came up after i ordered a sticker sheet from a seller, not realizing

I think i’ve had sticker sheets removed from my store that were just incomplete,
but I cant remember for sure.

Just merge all the variant feedbacks into one: Positive, Negative and Neutral

  Hello again everyone,

Below I have listed the general groups of variants we are tackling and the results
of the deliberation over the last month. I was originally planning to provide
a schedule for when these changes will happen, but based on the progress with
the tiles since February 1, I am hesitant to commit to any timeline except that
we will not change anything on this list prior to February 15.

Today the catalog team got a message (in all caps) protesting the variant merges.
Some of the points have not been addressed yet, so I thought I would take this
opportunity to answer these before we get started with merging.

Not sure why you would respond to a message in all-caps and post it here making
this person out to be crazy. This person is actually quite passionate for BrickLink
and you are crushing them. Your tone in the response is very tone-deaf in my
opinion. You literally have people shouting at you to stop merging variants,
yet your response is: we are right and you are obviously wrong - gaslighting
the folks who are trying to make their point - which is a valid point. Not a
good look.

Look, you're (BrickLink) obviously making this change and not going back.
At the same time you are obviously burning bridges with many people. Take time
to consider the humans behind this site and that their passion is your bottom
line. What's more important, catalog changes or relationships with people
and communities that support your bottom line? Is this all really worth the relationships
that are being strained and even broken? This public humiliation (even though
the writer may have given you permission or we will never know who they are)
is not putting out any fires, it's just fanning the flames.

I understand that the most vocal forum members on here are supporters of this
variant merger. And a post like this may make everyone feel better about themselves
and this decision. But don't forget about those people you don't hear
from very often or ever that don't support this merger. You may think this
is a great idea and so may many of your colleagues, but there are also many users
of this site that don't agree.

Or delete all the users? It'll be more efficient IMO.

No, just merge them all into one.

Nice! Always dreamt to be Russell!

Didn't someone hack into BrickLink and do that?

Years ago, a hacker came and set all the parts in my shop (and others) in Red,
that was "fun"

Still have a screen copy if you wish I'll find it

So after that hack, you must have been seeing red.

That's a good start... now we just need to add all parts with two studs,
three, studs, four studs, etc.

Those should all be merged variants as well. Maybe we could consolidate the part
name to: legos with stud(s)

(good band name?)

Please consider merging all parts with at least one stud. If you need a list,
please let me know. Listing more than one part that has studs seems redundant
to me. If this goes through i have some other suggestions:
Merge all bionicle parts with hero factory
Merge all cheese slopes with pizza tiles
Merge black with white
And there is more where that came from.

If you like this idea, please vote yes.

Sarcasm is the best offense!

  Hi,

What’s the deal with

Part No: 3803 Name: Technic, Pin Connector Hub with 4 Bars and Through Pin Hole
*
3803 Technic, Pin Connector Hub with 4 Bars and Through Pin Hole
Parts: Technic, Connector

The part has been added to the catalogue but is not in any set.

— Brickset doesn’t have it anymore.
“Anymore” because, obviously, the BL image is a render from LEGO, and Rebrickable
has a link to its (now non-existent) page on Brickset.
— Rebrickable has it as an alternate for

Part No: 48723 Name: Technic, Axle Connector Hub with 4 Bars and Pin Hole
*
48723 Technic, Axle Connector Hub with 4 Bars and Pin Hole
Parts: Technic, Connector
— LDraw has a 3D model.
— I think I remember it being shown on some site (NewElementary?) but I can’t
find it.

Cancelled? Postponed?

There's also

Part No: 3766 Name: Plate, Round 4 x 6 Oval
*
3766 Plate, Round 4 x 6 Oval
Parts: Plate, Round {White}
Maybe it's an alternate for two of the half-plates (18980)?

BL will be merging entries for them shortly.

OK I took note.

BrickLink will soon merge Technic Axle Connector Hub with 4 Bars, with Plate
Round 4 x 6 Oval.

Seems fine and legit to me, thank you!

Share Wanted List - Feature coming soon!

So I wonder: what is 'soon' in the perception of Bricklink?

Soon = Never
Taxes = Immediately
My Collection = Monthly
Variant Consolidation = When you least expect it
BDP = Stretched over the longest time possible with monthly reminders that it's
not ready yet
Seller Tools =

Did I miss anything?

I'm pretty sure this was written by continually pressing the next suggested
word on an on-screen keyboard like an ipad. Sounds like the stuff my nine-year-old
comes up with.

  The Responses

So far I have seen two YouTube videos addressing this issue, and I'll post
in this new thread to respond directly (and completely) to what they are saying.

The two YouTube videos I have seen are these:

R.R. Slugger: There's a BAD Bricklink Update Coming...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGRxNX8Cg_o

DuckBricks: Why Would Bricklink Do This? Is Bricklink Stupid?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk47Wb18ibg

In this post I will address the second one:

I'll begin with a quote from Chris which he used as part of the introduction:

“I decided to take down every single one of my wall displays and actually
consolidate them to be a lot better, neater, tighter, and more concise to allow
myself to be able to put up even more stuff.”

What Chris is doing with his collection is, in a way, similar to what we are
doing with the BrickLink catalog.

I do actually agree with the overall sentiment from this video. However, there
are several points I would like to challenge:

Quote from the video: “from the beginning, the catalog has just been
continuing to grow and grow."

Not completely true. There have been major corrections like this in the past,
and we make minor corrections regularly. One of the things that is often missed
by the average BrickLink member is that we reject the overwhelming majority of
variants. That means that the BrickLink catalog only grows to the extent that
we let it grow, and there are considerable restraints even now on the number
of variants we will accept.

2 x 2 Hinge Brick – this is a merge between 30389c and 30389b. It does
not involve the hinge brick without axle hole 30389a.
[p=30389c]

Part No: 30389b Name: Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical and Axle Hole
*
30389b Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical and Axle Hole
Parts: Hinge

Part No: 30389a Name: Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical without Axle Hole
*
30389a Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical without Axle Hole
Parts: Hinge

While we are talking about this early brick that many of you are excited to distinguish,
I will point out that we are missing inventory information in 15 Sets and 1 Gear
Item:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=30389&in=S
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=30389&in=G

The determined version is only in 10 sets currently. If this variant matters
to you, please help us fill out the data in the BrickLink inventory system.

A correction concerning the 2 x 2 hinge brick:

“As a correction to the video, it has become clear that one of the examples
I mentioned, the 2x2 brick with click joint, is NOT being consolidated when it
comes to axle hole versus no hole - just the specific molding type of axle hole.
However, all other examples mentioned are accurate, and from a database point
of view, I still stand by my original sentiments in the video that this change
ideally should not be happening.”

However, there are indeed issues with the other examples:

Click Hinges –The number of teeth does not affect the number of locking
positions. A lot of people think that when they see the distinction in the catalog,
but it’s actually not true. This misunderstanding is one reason we want to remove
this distinction. These are simply cosmetic differences on a part that is not
typically used for cosmetic purposes.

Part No: 60471 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 Locking with 2 Fingers on Side
*
60471 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 Locking with 2 Fingers on Side
Parts: Hinge

1 x 4 Clear Bricks – The 1 x 4 frosted bricks will be merged with the

(3066).

Smooth Slopes – there was a comment in the video that the result of a
merge will be a “random hodgepodge” where buyers may receive slopes that don’t
match each other. But this is actually the condition of the marketplace now,
pre-merge.

The oldest slopes had a very heavy texture (see photo below), whereas newer ones
have much less texture. And in addition to the slopes that seemingly have no
texture, real-life listings contain everything in between.

The presence of “Smooth” entries in the catalog gives the illusion that there
are only two grades of texture, but the reality is that listings based on subjective
criteria will produce subjective results. In fact, I’m pretty sure that much
of the Smooth Slope data we see in the set inventories is also subjective depending
on the experience of the contributor.

Community Poll – We don’t base our decisions on polls because if we did,
the collector community on BrickLink would have their agenda completely wiped
out by the majority who don’t care about picky details. Instead, we appoint very
detail oriented admins who represent the collector community and they are the
ones making the calls on variants on a day-to-day basis.

Date - Feb 1 or Feb 15 – Feb 1 was the original date we were going to
begin changes, but due to delays with the list of changes and requests to extend
the time a little, we pushed the date to Feb 15. However, the name and number
changes to tiles and the 1 x 1 round brick will start on Feb 1. Since these are
not merges, they will not affect listings in the same way.

OH, I FINALLY GET IT! This is a new sellers tool! Finally!

BL is consolidating parts to make it easier to sell! Not quite the seller tool
anyone was asking for, but at least it's something!

So... if the trend continues... it's going to be super easy to sell on BL!
Eventually, BL will consolidate down to just ONE PART! That means sellers just
have to list ONE PART!!! That will be super easy to list!!!

So when a buyers orders from my store, they will have just have ONE PART to choose
from and we, sellers, just send them whatever we have one hand! SUPER EASY!!!!
I GET IT NOW! Thank you BL!

200mil+ in a few days is insane..

1. It’s twenty millions, not two hundreds.

2. TLG’s revenue is around $10 billions per year (DKK 64.6 billions in 2022).
That’s $27 millions a day.  So, with BDP, they are making about a day’s sale
in a day.

Best case: if buying from BDP is just a plus and not a move,— that is, if all
the people who are buying BDP sets aren’t choosing between buying BDP and buying
something else from LEGO—, as there’s 3 BDP Series per year, that will make 3
days more revenue per year, so +0.82%.

That is not true. The last BDP round sold out completely in less than 24 hours.

Things are moving very fast this time too. If you want to get one of these sets,
you need to place the order now.

Memory must be failing me, sorry!

If these are all legit orders then congrats to your marketing team!

The "program" page is showing that the fortress is about half gone, but
others all less than that so it shouldn't be reporting out of stock yet.

The only way the fortress is that far along has to be because folks are going
over their 2 per household limit. There's no way it's filling up that
fast otherwise.

and sellers on BL actually want unless you send out a poll.

Many here in forum might be concerned about 4737a - this specific and exact version.

Forum is everything but NOT normal AFOL public.
99% of my buyers don't even know there's a Forum, and even if won't
go there.

AFOLs, for a immense majority are building/fixing existing (more or less recent)
Sets, or picked from the web like Rebrickable, or making their own creations.

To play/create with - not to collect or reconstitute.

They wish a Minifig Head with (some) Smile - and don't care for any Hollow,
Blocked or Plain one - just the freaking cheapest and most available.

As a seller, a buyer, an AFOL still creating in LEGO since I'm kid, I'm
sorry, but I really can't see how a Poll would be necessary.

And don't worry, LEGO and BrickLink have studied this for a long time with
much efforts and stats.

Random Price Guide example:
Total New 3747a Blue sold on BrickLink for the last 6 months: 109
Total New 3747b Blue sold on BrickLink for the last 6 months: 7794

The vast majority of LEGO users and BrickLink members are not here for specific
versions.

This change is to simplify the majority of members, and to still alow very specific
demands.

That seems a very smart approach to me, don't you think so?

I really don't care. I'm just bothered by the illusion of putting an
"idea" out to the forum to get feedback when something has already been
decided. If you really want to let the users decide on something then create
a poll and put it to the users. If you have already decided on making a change
and trying to convince yourself and forum readers that you are doing the right
thing, do it on the forum. You will have some detractors and you will have your
cheerleaders. The cheerleaders will make you believe you were right and there
is no reason to change course because enough people seem to agree with you. You
my friend, if you didn't know it, are a cheerleader. You can read through
the thread and also find the detractors. But it's usually the cheerleaders
that make the OP feel good about their original decision and feel like this matter
has been discussed in the public so they have done their due diligence - even
though the decision on what to do was already made weeks ago. The detractors
are now somewhat satisfied because they have had their say, even though it didn't
count for anything (and they probably knew that). It's just a way to market
a possibly unpopular idea.

I propose a simple poll. You are not going to get a good idea of what buyers
and sellers on BL actually want unless you send out a poll. Either you have already
made the decision and you're just trying to smooth the transition by having
a forum discussion about it - OR - you really care about what the majority of
users want and you put it to a poll.

Just send out an email to a poll hosted on bricklink or where-ever asking a yes
or no to merging variants and state your case. Then let the people give you their
feedback. Give the poll a couple weeks and then show the results and make your
decision based on that. That would be a much more transparent way of doing this
- especially considering all the work people have put in and the knowledge that
would be eventually lost.

Again, if you don't care what BL users want, then by all means, just make
whatever decision you have already made and we'll all have to live with it.
But if you do care, put it to a poll. Actually find out what people want. You
could even stick in a few other poll questions at the same time that might be
helpful to your marketing team.

You won't regret sending out a poll but you might regret NOT sending out
a poll.

Hmmm and also, I see that the proposed change of removing the "with groove"
entries is not in this list, so it seems incomplete. This is likely going to
result in us having to shut down the business for one or two days and figure
out what the damage is, I guess.

Russell clarified that 3068b and 3068a (and other tiles) won’t be merged: the
“With Groove” will be removed from 3068b and, IIUC, 3068b will become 3068.
Like we have 3001 and 3001old.
Don’t know if 3068a will become 3068old though, but the entry will be kept separate.

Aha, thanks for clearing that up, Jen and Sylvain. So, in that case that list
actually is complete (and potentially definitive). Good to know.

And @Jen I agree that removing specifications from the name that are very rarely
relevant (anymore) is a good thing. That sort of thing really does scare casual
buyers away as they can get overwhelmed and don't understand what elements
of the name/description are relevant to them. Bricklink is a lot to take in.

And removing "smooth" slopes is good too, I never acknowledged that as
a legitimate thing in the first place

Ok, seems the changes are not as dramatic as I feared at first. The amount of
duplicate lots this will produce will not be that numerous for most sellers.
But I do hope Russell will find some time before the deadline to clarify in that
list which exact item numbers are going to be removed and which ones will stay.
That way, once the change is made, sellers can spot their duplicates easily.
And I can make some adjustments to make sure the sync system here works correctly.

I finished the list this morning:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2626

For the Duplo bricks and the Blocked and Vented studs, there are just too many
to list at this time, but people can do a search for them in their stores.

We will need a full list to send out the notification next week though, so that
will be coming.

Concerning the removed vs changed, nothing will technically be removed from the
catalog. All items will be merged to a similar item and the lots in stores will
be preserved. In some cases, just the Item Name and Item Number will be adjusted,
and that may not require any text to be added to the comments section.

But the easiest thing would simply be to add notes to every listing on the list.
I have found it helps buyers have confidence that a variant is correct when a
note is present, even if the note simply duplicates the info in the Item Name.

I wanted to post here to see how many other LEGO fans have felt similar frustration
and confusion about LEGO's own cultural stance to printing yellow only minifigures
for their non-IP sets (ICONS, City, Winter sets etc, etc).

For those of you who are already on-board with this, I'll link a great article
I found that excellently argues this point and cites its sources:

https://womensbrickinitiative.com/diverse-lego-minifigure-petition/

For those fans who haven't put much thought into this or are opposed to diversifying
the LEGO minifigure population, I'd urge you to read the above article. It's
well-written and researched, and says everything that needs to be said on this
topic.

In short, I don't at all agree with LEGO's staunch position on "yellow"
washing its minifigs that don't represent a certain IP. Their argument (as
quoted in the above article) that yellow is "race-neutral" is insulting,
as only light-skinned people can truly relate to that tone of color.

I'm personally interested in buying my first modular sets, but I also know
that I will have to spend money to swap out the heads, arms and some torsos to
make it representative of the world I live in, and the people I know.

I strongly believe that LEGO needs to do better, swallow its pride and discontinue
yellow minifigures. They're boring and lazy anyway.

I love LEGO and will be a lifelong fan. I just wish the brand matured with the
times quicker, and embraced cultural diversity.

Sure looks like modern Pearl Dark Gray, but I can’t find a unique production

Here it is next to several other PDG parts, as well as a few Dark Bluish Gray

If I had to guess, i'd say it came from build a minifigure (BAM) in LEGO
stores. They sometimes produce unique colours not in sets and not picked up by
BL.

I think there's a bug with the download inventory feature.

If I download my whole inventory as a CSV file, the category column shows the
major category as well as the sub-category. Example: Parts / Minifigure Headgear

If I download my stockroom A inventory as a CSV file, the category column only
shows the major category. Same example: Parts (no sub-category)

But if I download all my stockroom inventory (A, B and C), the sub-categories
are back.

Can anyone else collaborate this bug?

Thanks!

Right so I looked at the instructions for both sets that these bunnies come in

So here's a practical question. Let's say you pull one of these bunny

if they both look exactly the same and there is no reference point?

Yep, I have 7 item removals on my activity screen. It doesn't happen too
often, but it's handy when it does. Sometimes it works out that an order
is delayed using the tool so I can catch up with other orders.

I would also like a similar tool to add items to an order as previously requested:

These tools just seem like common sense to have - even if not used a lot. I am
not in favour of removing any seller tool - cherish the ones we have.

Just a point of clarification - even though we have confirmation that these are
genuine elements from a real LEGO mold does not mean these elements ever officially
made it into production. From our community members' analysis on the external
side, they never found one example among hundreds of minifigures tested that
had come from official sets.

So as far as we know, these were never officially released, at least in the traditional
sense of the word.

Sorry, that's confusing to me. So someone dug up an unused lego mold (watched
doc where it mentioned LEGO buries them so they are never used again - memory
could be wildly wrong) and then made their own parts with an official mold. That
sounds bad. Did I interpret that wrong?

  Hello everyone,

Based on the report of counterfeit minifigure torsos that was discussed recently
here:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1416623

we conducted an investigation into the four BrickLink stores mentioned in the
video. Of these four, three came back to us and said their torsos did not match
the description in the video. The other store never got back to us, so we reached
out to their buyers and asked for samples.

We received parts from several different buyers and sent them to an internal
LEGO department for testing. The test concluded that the torsos in question are
genuine LEGO elements.

Thanks to all the BrickLink users who invested time on this issue and shared
their findings.

I see you're charging everyone 13% HST, but making a note in the terms "If
you live in a province with less sales tax you may want to change the shipping
method to "Request Invoice" and we will apply the correct sales tax for
your Province.".

The only province 13% HST applies to is Ontario, but your store is in AB. I'm
sure you're aware it isn't legal to collect sales tax beyond what is
required, so I hope/assume you've refunded all overages collected, even if
they didn't select Request an Invoice. This is why the tax tables are important
and why instant checkout isn't great for Canadian sellers/buyers at the moment.

I hope you are not assuming that I don't do that.

I'm actually happy that I can manage the tax myself instead of BL forcing
me to do it their way. Less communist this way.

Russell reached out to me about a month ago saying they're no longer doing
that as they're not required to (but could voluntarily do it should they
wish in the future of course). I asked if they could implement the sales tax
field (as The Piece River requested) until (if) they implement marketplace taxes.
No news yet if they'll give us access to the field and tax tables.

Super surprised by this!!! I was under the impression they were implementing
a tax collection system for every country even when not required. I don't

There is no history of sales or offers. I do not have the box or instructions,
but I do have all the 21 sets that were included. What would be a reasonable
price?

Would however you determine the price hold for other collections as well, say
all Star Wars sets from a given year?

The OP has been given good advise, this collection is nothing without the promo
box. Just sell the sets individually. Also, If you look up each set, you'll
see there is a history of that set and how many have sold within 6 months. More
eyeballs will see the individual sets rather than one obscure promotional collection.
If we were talking about star wars sets it might be a good idea to list as the
collection, but not for city.

I believe you could also make a super lot or custom item with all the sets included
if you really wanted to bundle them all together, which I don't recommend.

I have a milky-sand-green brick somewhere too...

base-color ABS is milky white. But technic connectors usually use something different,

Thanks folks. I guess i'll list as a custom item.

Taxes are a legal issue and so need to be worked on.

There is an easy work around, just long click to open the part in another tab.

I would disagree that that is an easy work around. The fact of the matter is
that this bug affects seller's productivity, has a super-easy fix, and should
have been looked into when it was reported weeks ago. BL definitely dropping

  Thank you for your input.

We decided that a survey was not the best format in the dialogue with Sellers,
instead we have done a number of sounding board meetings with BrickLink members,
sellers, designers and buyers in a face to face format, allowing for dialogue.
Unfortunately no matter the format there will always be things that we don't
learn until we actually go live with an initiative, that is also why we truly
appreciate all the input we are getting.

I am sorry that you perceive us sharing the list with all as retracting something
as opposed to listening and reacting accordingly, especially because we intend
to continue to listen and adjust

Have a nice day.

Yep, the problem with that is that BL is not a small group of sellers you do
sounding board meetings with. A survey would have been your best option for this
and for big ideas going forward, in my opinion. That will give you the largest
sounding board possible. When you make an "announcement" that seems like
a done deal. So when you then make adjustments because of complaints, those seem
like retractions. I hope you can understand my perspective.

The forum is not the greatest way to get feedback for something new like this.
You should send out a survey to all sellers asking for input to a few specific
questions and make your decisions based on that. Then when you make an announcement
on the forum, you can be confident your idea is supported by the vast majority
of BL and not have to make multiple retractions "live". It's called
getting your "ducks in a row".

BL:
*does something*
*gets feedback*
*responds to that feedback*

BL users:
"You didn't solicit feedback correctly!!!!!"

Bingo... there is a right way and a wrong way to do things.

  Dear all,

Thank you for all your interest in the MOC Pop-Up Store, we truly value all your
input!

Our aim is to create a program that will make the most sense to all involved.
In a pilot setup everything will not be perfect but based on your input we will
be able to adjust for a potential future program.

During the pilot we are very focused on finding out whether this is in fact something
that is of interest and that it makes sense to continue building on in the future.

To avoid any misunderstandings we should clarify that all sellers on BrickLink
are considered in the check-out process for the MOC Pop-Up Store like any check-out
on the platform in general, we are not only working with a few invited sellers,
everyone is considered and the buyers will be able to choose which stores they
buy from.

We only reached out to a few big sellers to ask for their support to stock up
on certain parts because there is risk involved as explained earlier and the
pilot is only running for 10 weeks, however since we can see that this is perceived
as unfair, we have decided that we will make the aggregated list of elements
available to all prior to the launch of the pilot, this was always the intent
in a future setup just not for the pilot.

We appreciate that so many would like to support this initiative by securing
that as much inventory is available as possible, this will support us in proving
the success of the pilot.

The initial aggregated list of elements will be available once we know which
designers will choose to be part of the pilot, since we will continue to invite
select designers throughout the pilot, the list will be updated weekly thereafter.
The initial list should be available on the site in the beginning of August.
Pleas keep in mind that this list will still vary, some designers might not be
able to get their designs ready for the pilot after all and some designs might
not sell, we want to make that clear so that everyone understands the risk. The
list will include element ID, color, total nbr. of the same part used across
all designs and BrickLink ID.

Please do continue to share your input.

Not a great customer experience. If you were a first time buyer, would you like
the store you just bought from to say, sorry, you screwed up, you'll have
to fix it yourself. Or would you rather them say, sure, I can fix that for you.
Just approve the part that I just added to your order and make payment for the
remaining amount. It's a very basic customer service fuction. Not sure BL
owners are experts that that though.

I mean if it gets added to the order they would have to do practically the same
amount of work to fix it? They likely wouldn’t know about the feature so would
first have to message the seller then after that tell them what part they need
instead of just simply placing another order of separate batch.

Let me break it down for you as I don't think you "get it"...
1. Buyer makes order, forgets a part
2. Buyer emails seller he forgot a part and wants to add it
3. Seller adds part to order and request is sent to buyer to approve
4. Buyer approves and is taken to the updated invoice to make payment

That should be how it works.

but that's what a second batch is for. no?

Can you, as the seller, make that second batch? No. You are telling the buyer
they screwed up and they should fix it by adding a second batch.

i mean the seller cant accept the order addition so they buyer has to anyway
and then if done that way what if the seller chooses the wrong item or the buyer
decides last second they want more qty or to get 1 more item while they are at
it anyways? its super simple and straightforward for both buyers and sellers
to use the batch system for additions

So many what ifs... what if the buyer and seller use it correctly and the buyer
is pleasantly surprised by the great customer service? Now the seller is not
forced to add another order (remember this is for paid orders) or another
batch. The seller doesn't have to give away parts for free or update his
inventory manually. Wow, it's like a customer friendly system! Wait, that
will never work!

This is not a zero sum game. I'm not suggesting that we should get rid of
batches, because they would still perform a vital function for many of the reasons
you stated, but for one-offs and super simple additions that a buyer has already
requested in an email, the seller should be able to add those to an order.

The owners (TLG) are very good at customer service, that mentality has not been
able to trickle down to BL for some unknown reason. It is getting better, but
still not Lego CS level.

I never had any seller use it for my orders.
I got a couple of “oops, I don’t have these parts” messages but none used a removal
request.
(And almost all the messages ended with “so I already applied a credit.”)

I've used it, not often, because removing parts doesn't come up as often.
The tool needs upgrading to be useful. It's still on the right track though.
Sellers need the option to be able to add or remove parts. That's just common
sense.

This is a BAD idea. BL has it's head in the clouds when it should be focusing
on the buying and selling experience. Instead they have tunnel vision in three
areas: collecting taxes, collections and designer program. None of which improves
the customer experience on BL. New people go to BL, hate how it looks and feels
and give up. Get your heads out of the clouds and focus on your improving your
product.

Seems ridiculous that, as a seller, I can't add a part to a buyer's order
upon their request (a basic customer service fuction). But that would be a basic
seller tool... not taxes, or collections... therefore it will get zero development
consideration... so I guess I'm just venting.

If it hasn’t been paid then a buyer can add it as a second batch easily or
one method is if it’s not to expensive would be to include it for free that
tool would have negatives as some sellers may try to include things buyers don’t
want to try and sell more and if a buyer needs to approve a request then it’s
no faster then just adding a second batch

Usually the problem comes up with paid orders and I do often add parts for free
as I don't want to add an extra burden to the buyer and potentially delay
fulfilling an order.

But with paid orders how would it be added?

It would change the order to unpaid and the invoice would be for the remaining
amount. The most basic invoice software can do this.

I don't agree that a seller tool would be negative. Does the "Order Item
Removal Request" tool have negatives? It should work the same way to add
to an order. It would improve customer service and not put all the burden on
buyers who may not be as familiar with BL.

They are different tools 1 is something that can be used to remove from their
order (lowering the price) and the other could be used by sellers to upsell people
or just hassle buyers to buy more unlike removing from orders which most don’t
make money from. (Also I pretty much never use the removal tool either as it
just makes everything more complicated)

It could actually be the same tool: add/remove parts from order. It's a basic
function that is missing. Are you assuming all other BL sellers are evil upsellers?
Any abuse should be dealt with easily with a report fuction. Not having the option
in the first place is a huge gap in customer service.

When you make an online order with any other company, can you not email or call
them to add to your order? In most cases, yes, and that provides a great customer
experience. On BL, there is too much red tape to add parts to an order.

I mean you can always add a second batch or ask the seller or just make a new
order

Not a great customer experience. If you were a first time buyer, would you like
the store you just bought from to say, sorry, you screwed up, you'll have
to fix it yourself. Or would you rather them say, sure, I can fix that for you.
Just approve the part that I just added to your order and make payment for the
remaining amount. It's a very basic customer service fuction. Not sure BL
owners are experts that that though.

I don't agree that a seller tool would be negative. Does the "Order Item
Removal Request" tool have negatives? It should work the same way to add
to an order. It would improve customer service and not put all the burden on
buyers who may not be as familiar with BL.

I believe your question was answered. And you got free advice on your store from
an experienced user. You're welcome.

FYI... you can't end a discussion by saying "end of discussion" in
a public forum. Actually, that's a great way to keep a discussion going in
a direction you don't want it too.

Welcome to the internet... it really sucks.

You have way too many demands on the buyer. There are lots of other good stores
on BL for me to choose from other than to accept terms like that. Make it as
easy as you can to buy from your store. I added you to my list of fav stores
in hopes that you can make me feel good about buying from you in the future.
Good luck!

Orders received must be reviewed by the buyer with 48hrs of confirmed delivery.
Any discrepancies must be messaged to the seller via Bricklink messaging system
within 48hrs of delivery. Any issues brought up after this period will be considered
buyer neglect and will not be eligible for remedy by the seller.

If I order from any store, Bricklink and PayPal allow me to file NSS(no shipping
seller because the order is incomplete) and item not as described for 6 months.
So this seller can technically neglect those claims and no buyer will have any
problem with that because PayPal will refund the whole payment to the buyer and
he can complete NSS against this seller. Three completed NSS is enough for this
store to be permanently closed, i.e. life-banned.

We do not cancel orders for any reason.

In TOS of bricklink, there are reasons given for which a buyer can cancel an
order. This seller accepted those TOS by requesting to be become a seller on
BL. Funny.
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=79

In the event, there is a shortage, or incorrect pieces are sent, we will NOT
send a replacement piece but may refund the shortage, or require the entire order
be returned.
NO PARTIAL RETURNS!!!

Seriously? You make a mistake and send something different that what buyer ordered
and they you basically do nothing for your mistake. I appreciate your honestly
and being up-front here.

In case you think some buyers might want to falsely claim something is missing
in their order and scam you, this is not something that happen frequently on
BL. So you might want to remove this.

In the event, the seller accepts a return regardless of reason, the seller
reserves the right to access a 25% restocking fee plus a $10 fee.

You can reserve the right but buyers can file a PayPal claim and PayPal will
simply refund the whole payment to buyer! (except the return shipping costs)
So, if you make a mistake and do not send what the buyer order and then, the
buyer has to pay and return the order and on top of that, will not get a whole
refund?!

Incorrect PayPal payments made by the buyer that would cause the seller to
lose PayPal seller protection or any other reason as determined by the seller
are subject to a 5% fee, as well as a $10 service charge in the event of a refund.

How this can happen exactly? You invoice the buyer yourself. You only accept
PayPal onsite as method of payment. The buyer can only pay the invoiced amount
via PayPal onsite. How can a buyer send an incorrect amount other than you make
a mistake in the invoice you send him?

Orders returned for insufficient, incorrect, bad address, etc will be refunded
less shipping and handling and 25% restocking fee plus a $10 fee.

Ok this is understandable if there is an error in the address.

I am left with two question:
- Would you order from a shop that has these terms?
- have you checked terms of a few big established and successful stores? If so,
did you wonder why they don't have terms similar to yours?

I have ordered from 127 stores on Bricklink but I would not order from you. You
can check the terms of stores from which I ordered.

I hope you at least find my honest but harsh comments helpful.

Maybe an "international version"?

Tax is a legal issue they and we have to comply with. Collecting it is a seller
tool.

LOL

Do not believe it is a seller tool rather a marketplace tool so they can comply
with the changing regs for marketplaces. As a seller none of the tax collections
apply we do not sell into eu; nor states where there is a sales tax ; and soon
into any country which levies a tax on our sales; likr most UK sellers (not registered
for VAT)

Remember Bricklink do not make the rules they have to abide by them..

If it was a "seller tool", they would have made a generic way for all
sellers, no matter the country, to manage and collect taxes in a seller-defined
and customizable way instead of just collecting the tax for us. I wonder where
all the tax money goes and how long it sits in BL bank accounts collecting interest?

I haven't looked into it too closely and don't really care, but just
saying, it's not a seller tool. But thanks for the laugh.

  Hello everyone,

We recently had a "fake parts" dispute between a buyer and a seller that
found its way into the Help Desk. This happens from time to time and normally
we don't get very involved - we just give some basic advice and ask them
to work out the dispute between themselves.

However, in this case the buyer posted a video showing the fake parts. We'd
like some opinions on whether these are really fake or are they simply an older

Not really, no. It is explaining that it was added to aid searches with the implication
being that it is not there because the cataloguing crew believe that it is the
official name, as they know it isn't.

I guess we just don't have the same sense of humour. Lucky you!

The fact that you are reading any kind of humor into the whole situation is in
itself quite humorous.

In any case, I have altered the note and made it less humorous for all involved.

Hmm... now how do I use humour to get those seller tools developed?

Yep, totally agree. However, the part that's funny (it's not really that
funny anymore since having to explain it over and over) is to say "Baby Yoda...
was added to the item's title merely to facilitate searches". OF COURSE
IT WAS - WHAT OTHER PURPOSE WOULD THERE BE?

Everything included in an item's title is there to facilitate searches, otherwise,
no one would find anything (unless they added tags, just saying)

I suppose they could have added it there because they thought the arrangement
of the letters looked pleasing to the eye... but I doubt it.

The explanation is there because the name Baby Yoda is now known to be wrong
and has been added and kept not because that is his name but as an aid for people
that incorrectly use that term. If the explanation is not there, they will get
complaints / change requests saying the name is wrong and should be removed.
Hence the disclaimer, to put off those catalogue change requests.

Right, the first part of the explaination addresses that. The last sentence is
unnecessary and makes me chuckle. Get it?

OK, passive aggressive then.

If it wasn't, then we would have "additional notes" for this minifig,

Minifigures: 4 Juniors

Additional Notes: This is a non-descript juniors minifigure. We have added 'Brick'
to assist in search results.

but brick is printed on the figure and isn't a "nickname" for that
figure that is widely used that would confuse people

Sorry, that was just one of the first minifigs in the catalog. How about:

Minifig No: sh255 Name: Agent 13 (Sharon Carter)
*
sh255 (Inv) Agent 13 (Sharon Carter)
Minifigures: Super Heroes: Captain America Civil War
I could literally point to hundreds or thousands of examples.

but isn't sharon charter agent 13? (I've never watched the show/movie)
meanwhile gorgu isn't baby yoda but just referred to as baby yoda

Also, baby yoda is grogu who is also "the child". The minifigure name
is Din Grogu / The Child / 'Baby Yoda' which are all names of the character.
The first part of the "additional notes" explains baby yoda - the last
part is just passive aggressive and makes me chuckle.

but baby yoda isn't his name its a fan name that is very popular. for
example if this one

Minifig No: sh255 Name: Agent 13 (Sharon Carter)
*
sh255 (Inv) Agent 13 (Sharon Carter)
Minifigures: Super Heroes: Captain America Civil War
had 'Thor' (first super heroes name that cam to mind) in the title for
if its just what everyone referred to her as then it would make sense to have
a note in the description to explain why the name "Thor" is in the title
when it not the name of Agent 13

Yep, totally agree. However, the part that's funny (it's not really that

but were you talking about how its weird it has a description to explain it?
But yes it is nice that baby yoda is in the name as its kinda like an "honourable
mention" since so many still like to use that name

Nope, never mentioned that. It's funny how everyone jumped to that conclusion
though. Check out the original post.

example if this one

Minifig No: sh255 Name: Agent 13 (Sharon Carter)
*
sh255 (Inv) Agent 13 (Sharon Carter)
Minifigures: Super Heroes: Captain America Civil War
had 'Thor' (first super heroes name that cam to mind) in the title for
if its just what everyone referred to her as then it would make sense to have
a note in the description to explain why the name "Thor" is in the title
when it not the name of Agent 13

Yep, totally agree. However, the part that's funny (it's not really that
funny anymore since having to explain it over and over) is to say "Baby Yoda...
was added to the item's title merely to facilitate searches".

I guess what makes me laugh is that it's a combative statement, like we are
expecting people to complain.

And it is not a combative statement. It is merely a statement of fact placed
there so that we do not get inundated with requests to remove the term from the
title.

OK, passive aggressive then.

If it wasn't, then we would have "additional notes" for this minifig,
right?

Minifig No: 4j003a Name: Construction Worker with Blue Shirt, Green Vest and Cap with the Word 'Brick', Sunglasses and Moustache
*
4j003a Construction Worker with Blue Shirt, Green Vest and Cap with the Word 'Brick', Sunglasses and Moustache

It's just that the statement is stating the obvious just to be obvious. Like,
i'm going to put a period at the end of this sentence so you know it's
finished. Or, if the additional notes said, " We put the item number here
so you could search for it".

   Additional notes:
This character is not Yoda, but instead a juvenile member of the same species as Yoda. The term 'Baby Yoda' is a
popular term among fans and the media. It was added to the item's title merely to facilitate searches.

Wait, isn't that the whole point of product descriptions in item names?

Should we not put on a note on every item in which terms are used to facilitate
searches then? LOL

I just went through a store change of address on BL. I've read so many problems
with sellers getting re-verified when changing addresses. Hoping for the best!

Just a quick update. Verification is complete! Thank you for the fast turnaround
BL.

This page implies that you only need to reapply when you change your country.

Did you initiate the process or did they?

Jen

Thanks for the link. I wonder how old it is? I initiated the process because
I moved from Ontario to Alberta. I'm now in Alberta and moving in to the
new house tomorrow, so I changed my address on BL. I was able to change my address
for "My Personal Information" without an issue. However, changing my
store address is when I ran into the re-verification. I changed the address and
then before submitting, it popped up a warning that this would close my store
until I completed the verification process, which it did. Still hoping for a
quick turnaround.
