  Good Morning Forum,
I had a customer reach out asking if I could reduce my shipping before purchasing
a set. I only do instant check out and not invoices. I explained in the email
that the shipping cost is what I believe is a fair price and I don't reduce
shipping. I told him thank you for his interested.

He never wrote back but a day later they purchased the item he had emailed about
and in the comments "Hi. Can you please reduce shipping cost a few dollars
to reflect ups advantage which is cheaper? Thanks!" after I already told
him no and after he had paid.

I don't want to be petty but I'm annoyed that I told them no and ignored
it.

What would you do?

Thanks!

I'm confused. Are they asking for a discount or are they asking for a cheaper
shipping method? The impression I get from your post is you want to send it priority
instead of ground advantage, and they are asking for ground.

In that case I'd do what the buyer asks.

Crystal

Thanks for the replay, they are wanting the shipping cheaper after I told them
I wouldn't reduce the price and after the already paid and purchased the
items.

Yeah, I grasp that. You didn't really answer me though. Are you insisting
on sending it priority when it can be sent ground?

I get that you are annoyed, but if I was the buyer in a case like that, I'd
be annoyed as well.

If so, that's a strange hill to die on. IMO.

This order:

Politely refuse or cancel the order. Canceling the order puts you at risk of
getting a neutral or negative feedback.

Point out that shipping includes more than just the postage. Many buyers (and
sellers) use "shipping" and "postage" interchangeably. They are
not the same. Shipping includes postage and could also include handling, packing
materials and travel costs to the post office.

Next order:

Stoplist this type of buyer immediately. They are usually troublemakers.

Avoid using language like "the shipping cost is what I believe is a fair
price". It encourages bargaining.

Enable the quote function if you haven't already.

Refuse, and tell them that you have already replied to their email saying no.
I would have stop listed them at that point, as in my experience, people that
expect discounts are the ones that will cause trouble later if you don't
give them the discount they demand.

I see, I see, that would actually make a lot more sense since the early sales
must have had the dims in. Bare with me and I'll see if I can add the dims
in the next couple of days for the several in my inventory that do not have them.

That would be awesome. Thank you!

P.S. Please make sure the dimensions are in centimeters.

Help?

If you only take payment via paypal, then you can use pirateship and link it
to auto pull all orders from paypal. or use shipstation within paypal.

You would need to find someone to write a script that will pull the order info
from Bricklink's API and Push it over to goshippo.com's API.

They should have exchanged them for current stamps which Royal Mail will only
recognise now, you had to send them to Royal Mail with a card/paper and not take
them to a post office.

I did this with those that I hadn’t used yet.

Not sure if this option is still open.

If the stamps were bought at the post office, they might have been misprints
and would show as not rel/counterfeit.

Well all of that sounds especially lovely for the environment. 🙄

It will be fine, don’t freak out just because you hear the word “oil”.

So you then shoot holes in the oil cans, oil would flow out, and then afterwards
you would clean up all the contaminated soil? Sounds like a lot of work
for a little fun.

Niek.

Nana, the oil burns off, and we use a just a tiny amount, also it is fun, sometimes
you can get mini explosions too.

no one reads anything. The buyers aren't seeing it.

Or they don't care they want it "now".

My most used manual invoice is labeled "whatever is cheapest" and I do
occasionally get people that go around instant checkout and use that instead,
but it's not many.

My question then, as a buyer, do people just prefer the instant checkout? Is
waiting for an invoice not that common anymore? Should I just remove the midwest
tier? Every dollar counts for me, but for buyers is it not worth the wait/time.
They just want to check out and be done?

Yes, absolutely. Also I took a look at your terms. It looks like only those buyers
who live in the states you designate can use the Manual checkout option. I understand
what you are trying to do but maybe you could make it a bit clearer and advertise
the discount ?

For example, in your terms, under shipping, write some text that buyers in these
specific states can opt for a lower shipping cost if they use Manual checkout.
But in the shipping description, I'd leave this out so that buyers who want
manual who do not live in those states are not turned away to buy from someone
else. It's confusing in my humble opinion.

In my experience, 99% want IC - its faster and easier for them . I offer local
pickup for anyone in New England and and tell them how to do this - manual checkout,
write a note asking for local pickup on order and then wait for the invoice.
You could offer this for your local buyers.

Just my 2 cents,
Alison

Sure, I'd say 100% of them nowadays.
Imagine your own on line experience buying things in other shops/marketplaces?

US has this problem of cost depending "regions" AFAIK, you're kind
of unique. Maybe CAN also?

Anyway - I'd be you, I'd make some kind of stats, and decide a rate,
my own rate like "in the middle" (depending your stats) which would make
you both gain and lose.

Of course you can adjust this flat rate later on.

Again, it wouldn't be USPS rate; you're allowed to use ANY rate you wish.
Explain it or better describe it in Terms and it'll be fine.

Buyers will adore this, IMO.

I just want to see if what I want to do is an option and I just haven't figured
out how to set up my shipping properly.

At the beginning of the year I updated my rates along the with the USPS. I don't
see an option to set up shipping by region. I'm in the central US so shipping
to each coast is not bad (with the exception of CA, everything seems expensive
in CA lol)

So I have instant checkout out for all of the USA up to 4lbs.

I wanted to have more realistic shipping for my home state and neighboring states.
It is about $1+ cheaper and less tiers. However when I use instant checkout and
test the options in my store, everyone's order defaults to cheapest shipping
and they have to manually check the other box for domestic US. So I took off
the instant checkout so it wouldn't be used by people who didn't qualify.
I made an invoice option instead with people in these states able to choose the
lower option. Bricklink then gives the lower estimate but I have to send an invoice.

No one has chosen this option even though I have received multiple orders from
qualifying states.

My question then, as a buyer, do people just prefer the instant checkout? Is
waiting for an invoice not that common anymore? Should I just remove the midwest
tier? Every dollar counts for me, but for buyers is it not worth the wait/time.
They just want to check out and be done?

The post office selling counterfeit stamps.

I know they need to make a profit but this is pushing it.

Are they using older stamps that are now not recognised ?

They should have exchanged them for current stamps which Royal Mail will only
recognise now, you had to send them to Royal Mail with a card/paper and not take
them to a post office.

I did this with those that I hadn’t used yet.

Not sure if this option is still open.

The feedback is deserved. The buyer completed their contractual obligations per
your terms, you dishonored them.

If you ship to the United States, a US buyer would have reasonable expectations
that you can ship to a US address. APO/AFO is considered domestic, even if it
is on foreign soil.

It is SHAMEFUL that you would leave a retaliatory negative feedback for the buyer,
especially a service member obligated to defend your country in the event of
a European war.

Here are some ways you could have resolved the situation:

1.) You could have explained that DHL won't let you ship to military bases
and offered to ship Poste Italiane.

2.) You could have assumed the extra cost and shipped to the Japanese address.
What would the loss have been, $10? Probably not even that, because you don't
receive your Paypal fees back on the refund.

Here are some options for the future:

1.) In your terms, add line, "We cannot ship to AFO/APO addresses."

2.) Stop shipping to the United States.

The seller says they only ship with DHL Express Courier, so I'm guessing
it's door-to-door. But yes, ordinarily DHL would hand off the package to
USPS for final delivery.

No, that isn't the case. APO/FPO addresses can receive international shipments,
but they *do* have go through USPS. But that is typical for international mail
- the national postal service makes delivery after the package goes through customs.

USPS does not operate in Italy, does it?

It does not, but that is not the point. We have shipped to APO/FPO as well. There
is no USPS here, but when shipment reaches US, it is handed over to USPS. So
OP needed to use a shipping service that does the same.

Thank you in advance..

You need to set your shipping method with a Min / Max then another above that
set to zero cost. Looking at your store you have a lot going on with different
methods of shipping and this method is usually is implemented with stores that
offer flat rate shipping. Also, on checkout of one minifig in your store the
only shipping with IC is "Shipping & Handling
US $11.40". I would look at other stores setup similar to the model you
want to follow.

APO and FPO packages must be sent via USPS (meaning only from locations within
the US States). It seems the seller was wrong in leaving you feedback because
you reside in Italy and could not use the APO / FPO address. Nicely ask him
to remove the feedback based on this information.

That address is for someone in the US military. From the US, they get postage
just as if they were in the US even if they are deployed overseas.

A couple of years back I had a package (ordered from Europe) that, according

to prove that it really had though. I have my doubts about the validity of tracking
data some of the time tbh.

This kinda makes sense if its 2 packages with the same tracking. Which is what
I suspect here. Either way that's hilarious.

I've had something flop around in Los Angeles once for far too long before
going overseas. It would say departed only to get scanned in L.A. again.

I thought parcels backtracking through Memphis all the time was bad. The second
I get a message about shipping, I know Memphis is involved.

Australia.

Hahaha, that's very true

I know my store is very very limited at the moment but I'd like to try and
sell something sooner than later.

It was both a semi-joke and semi-serious. Get domestic sales right first before
extending to international. And even then, you might want to add just one small
country (maybe NZ, as they are also close) to try out international before adding
much larger markets.

Honestly your time is probably better spent listing more lots than trying to
figure out international shipping

That depends on what you want.

I'm trying to start small as time is limited and International shipping seems
very confusing at the moment.

However I'd like to increase my chance of selling stuff soon.

It’s pirate ships simple export rate. Yes often some tweaking is needed and as
for customs duties it’s quite normal in Canada and most expect to pay it whenever
buying outside of Canada but the same would apply to any country outside the
USA

I think part of the problem is that the question is so broad that answering it
seriously would require making a tutorial but thank you for linking to an existing
one so the original poster can read it if necessary.

Would also like to offer shipping to Canada as I get many request to open the
gates.

Within the states we are typically dealing with package rates from $3.79 (4oz)
to $7.15 (15.9oz).

To Canada alone looks like 17.00 for first oz. retail and close to $30 for cheapest
flat rate options.

Question is who is really ordering at these high shipping rates, and why.

Pirate ship starts at closer to ~$15 usd pretty sure as the few times I’ve order
from the USA it’s always been ~$10-~$15

I don't see it unless we are talking about flat parcels or other methods
which one might need to spend lots of time figuring out. Seems like one might
run into situations like, mis-calculations then having to eat the difference,
lost packages or items held in customs, customers refusing packages due to extra
duties, or being exposed more to credit card fraud (not a Canadian problem per
se, just seems criminals are more emboldened thinking they can get away with
it internationally).

It had been three hours and I'm pretty sure that if he head searched the
forum he would have found the answer (if not for Canada specifically, then other
countries).

The U.S. purchased Alaska from Russia and Trump tried to buy Greenland from Denmark
so buying Canada isn't that far out of the question.

How much is Canada to buy? Can you ship it to the UK?

Decades ago some friends and I put Canada up for sale on eBay. It got some good
bidding before it was pulled.

You need to go into each shipping method you have set up (in Settings Shipping)
and add a discount rule under the Discount S&H fees heading. Probably easiest
to select the "Discount %" option and set it to 100%.

Mwah. Looks like the French can't even build new trains that are compatible
with their own infra...

That was in 2014, don't remember well this, but don't you think it's
more: "Should we build faster and quieter trains OR keep the current obsolete
infrastructure?"

While this, 1h47 of pleasure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3rX-zAiyWg

In the drivers' cabin of a TGV Paris to Strasbourg (500 km / 300 mi), the
complete travel.

It starts accelerating at about 12:00
Speed's shown in the middle in km/h (divide by 1.6 for miles or like 300
km/h = 200 mph)

When I was 18 maybe, I had the chance to make an 1 hour trip with in the driver
cabin.

That was in 1980 maybe, these were possible, like flying with the pilot in a
plane. Of course nowadays...

I enjoyed the trains very much on my visit to France last summer - except for
the last day when the RER B from Paris couldn't get past Le Bourget and I
had to take a hack cab to De Gaulle! Cost me €50 and I came close to missing
my flight!!

Oh yes, RER is often a shame here.

Right now RER D is more or less closed for work construction and repairs, and
this for weeks IIRC - not sure, I don't live in Paris, but people told me.

Frankly, it'd be easier to move UK to Canada.
That'd be a real Brexit!

We could also fit France nicely into Quebec. We might have to jiggle it a bit
to keep it from spilling over into Labrador though.

Nope, not your problem. If it was, every scammer on the planet would claim this.

I've been having carriers mark things as delivered and then delivering them
days later (guess because of time quotas??) UPS is worse but my postal carrier
does it too when shes swamped. It may still show up.

+1 unless it can be proved it wasn't delivered. but if it was marked as delivered
and the post office confirms that then its up to the buyers house insurance.

It's late there, get some sleep. You can always try sounding rational and
reasonable again in the morning.

Goodnight

The cost for shipping it is about 4$.
The rest are for Tracking and Insurance, you have to pay a loooooot for those
with PostNord.

  Hi
Can you explain me clearly how to remove a country to "non shipping country"
to "shipping country" ?
Regards
Dom

-Go to Store Settings / Shipping
-Click on the Shipping Method with International

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/mystore/shipping.page

-Go down to Destination & Base Rate and select Anywhere
-Click on International to get pop-up with country selections
-Add or remove from there using the Save tab before exiting
-Make sure you hit the Save changes tab afterwards
and before leaving the Shipping page too

The process may vary depending on your set-up, but you should get the drift.
Also see the screenshots to the left, for more help

PM me, if needed

Indeed it can be really weird shipping from many countries in Europe. Even in
the same country 1 seller will have shipping starting at under $10 but then others
in the same country for the same amount of lego have shipping starting at ~$40
and they are missing out on many sales

It may be that one seller insists on registered / signed for whereas another
is willing to take more risk and send without tracking.

That is a possibility but even for the cheap ones they usually have tracking
and optional insurance

Tonight I made several carts because I kept stumbling upon stores with $20+ s+h
for a 19g $14 lettermail order. Only had 9 lots, no lot min listed, met min buy.
I know OS lettermail in Canada is $2.04, and even small flat rate is 17.84. Finally
found one store that would do $3.00.

  While this... USPS.

A simple international envelope $14 or such?
The same from here to you would cost maybe €3.

Which is why since maybe 5 years ago I can't / rarely buy in US; prices have
gone crazy sincerely.

I remember when we starting selling internationally our sales to other countries
made up about 30% of our business. Then shipping prices overseas just started
to go up QUICK. Now we get maybe 1 or 2 orders out of every 100 from out of country,
so from 30% to 2%. THAT STINKS!!
