And just to be clear, I am serious in buying out the shop at 95% discount. So
OP should better "get ready!" for my order on March 21 at 2:01AM (and
there will also not be any ambiguity about what constitutes 2:15AM as both OP
and BL are in the same time zone).

BTW, I didn’t caught it before but March 21 is a Thursday.  And DST starts/stops
on Sundays.  So, I just checked and it’s this Sunday, March 10, that most Canadians
enter DST.

I was so disappointed to log in after a few years away that bricklink had deleted

I am pretty sure that if you do not log into your account for a year, then your
store inventory gets removed.

No, that isn't the case. APO/FPO addresses can receive international shipments,
but they *do* have go through USPS. But that is typical for international mail
- the national postal service makes delivery after the package goes through customs.

USPS does not operate in Italy, does it?

It does not, but that is not the point. We have shipped to APO/FPO as well. There
is no USPS here, but when shipment reaches US, it is handed over to USPS. So
OP needed to use a shipping service that does the same.

  Nubs_Select talked about this.

It's a bug I see since the Refund page exists.

When you've input any amount in the "Refund amount Buyer will receive"
field, then using your mouse to scroll either up or down will increase or
decrease the value by increment of 1 (ex: 12.37 = 13.37, 14.37, etc)

Which can also lead to negative numbers.

But a few times I was to validate a refund which in the end was 1 or 3€ more
than what I typed because of this. Of course it's more difficult to notice
if you've a non trivial number like 12.37 which can become 13.37 without
you to notice.

In short, after clicking "Review refund" CAREFULLY double check the amount,
it may have changed since you typed it

Note it's the same in a Shop page, you may type 4, scoll down, and buy 2...

... But... When I tried to replicate this after Nubs mentioned it above, I
scrolled up, down, left, right, expanded, contracted... nothing changed.

Depends the position of your cursor, the rotation speed or start time, many things...

Here I can make it happen 100% of the times.

Confirmed to happen here on Firefox and Nubs on Opera IIRC - at least, didn't
try other browsers.

The behavior of the mouse scroll wheel updating the contents of a "number"
input field is the default behavior on most browsers. This can be disabled with
a small tidbit of JavaScript (you can disable events generated by the scroll
wheel with a "blur()" override).

For devs: please let me know if you need more specific info.

Works fine and fixes it as far as I can tell.

I can't help but think someone at BL was a bit overzealous. With the merging
changes, the advice from BL was to put some text in the "description"
field to specify mold differences. Maybe this was construed as "now everything
needs a description", so the API was changed to now require a "description"
field...

As most all of the long(er)time sellers can attest, historically, prices of parts
have gone down and down. There are precious few parts where prices have stayed
steady or have gone up. This last phenomenon mostly happens for parts unique

They could do a database back-up before this all occurs and have the information
stored somewhere, but not being able to publicly access that information means
that it is basically useless and non-existent.

Info such as catalog contributors, dates of changes, item logs etc are only available
in BL's own databases. However, the bare info of what parts make up a minifig
or a set are contained in the nightly database builds for BrickStock / BrickStore.
It would only take a bit of tinkering and programming to use an older copy of
these database files to resurrect the state of inventories at some point in time.

I will let it be this time.

If there’s taxes and BL should have collected them, it’s not your choice: it’s
tax evasion.
See: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1401495

And if there’s no taxes, as the order is not in the Paid status, I think you
should be able to change the payment method or the status, maybe by editing the
invoice or something (don’t know, not a seller ).

The right thing here would be a video, for first time buyers. I see this often,
that people do not know how to do this and that.
We should have a video on YouTube, that could share to new buyers.

If you are required to let BL handle taxes, you want to prevent people from making
payments "the old-fashioned way":

- Make sure the email address you have with Paypal for deposits is different
from your BL email address (so people can't easily "guess" where
they send a manual payment to);
- Don't advertise that email address in any BL invoicing you send out.

This way, at least you prevent people from skipping the online PP option.

The left column is supposed to be a list of the tags. On my browser (Firefox

For the tech people -

This is because the tag delimiters are not "HTML-escaped" - they should
be written out as "& lt ;" and "& gt ;" in the page to prevent
them from being interpreted as HTML code by the browser.

As most of us, we have changed our password during the log-in process. We also
appreciate the email sent when a "new" device logs in.

However, I believe BL would need to take a look at how the site remembers a previously-authenticated
browser. After changing the password o on our account from my laptop, I refreshed
the BL page on my tablet, and it authenticated without asking for our new password.
I have to assume this is because of some cookies stored on my tablet.

Changing an account's password does not invalidate sessions which were authenticated
with the old password. It would be good to put in some logic that would kick
off these "old" sessions.

As a seller, what measures will you take as a response of what we, as a community,
just experienced?

Safety measures, diversification of selling platforms, inventory backups, contingency
plans, etc...

I was reading the FB sellers group, and there were quite a few shops relying
on the "remarks" field, as well as many shops without any regular backup
of their inventory. Several of these commenters also said their livelihood depended
on BL for a significant part of their income.

There was a discussion a while ago where inventory storage was discussed - using
"remarks" or using "category naming":

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=285809&nID=1259033

Some language was used (stores being "nuts" to use inventory storage
based on the catalog, and using that system "is trouble" that was a
bit harsh because clearly storing based on the "remarks" field is far
superior. Well, as I mentioned in that thread, each store has its preference,
but I also mentioned (and this is a literal quote): "If for whatever
reason that field goes belly-up, you are in deep doodoo, whereas catalog-based-sorted
stores can still easily find any part". I could not help but notice how relevant
that post was when reading the FB posts. Our shop (aside from obviously not getting
any new orders) had no issue whatsoever managing our inventory, and pulling existing
orders.

I am grateful that BL came back in one piece, and I am happy for all shops that
(apparently) the remarks fields survived. I also mentioned in that thread, when
using the "remarks" field to manage your inventory, how important it
is to have a good (and verified working) backup. Now that everyone can wash their
soiled underpants and rejoice at seeing the remarks, are we actually going to
at least do sensible backups?

I will try to explain once (but you just don't seem to understand what others
have been saying again and again) -

Every shop can set their prices to whatever they like. There is no issue at all
with any prices you set on your items.

The issue is with calling the same prices you use ALL THE TIME as being a sale.
If you sell items for the same price ALL THE TIME, it is NOT a sale. These would
be your normal prices.

In EVERY "SALE" you advertise you set the exact same discounts on your
items. These "sales" apparently never end. A sale is a temporary reduction
in prices on your goods.

Again, you can set your prices to whatever you like, nobody has any issue
with that. The issue is calling your every-day-prices a sale. It is NOT
a sale if your items are still priced to whatever they are ALWAYS priced.

Your shop gets advertised on the BrickLink main page under "store sales"
whenever you put out these forum messages. This is just false advertising. These
are NOT sales. BL should look into stopping these front-page advertisements for
bogus sales.

Seeing repeated messages in the forum about not receiving emails from BrickLink,
I did some checking.

The DNS for bricklink.com shows an SPF record like this (broken up for readability):

v=spf1
- include:spf.protection.outlook.com
- ip4:54.209.67.9
- ip4:18.210.58.96
- ip4:3.213.113.25
- -all

This tells the world that emails sent from the bricklink.com email domain should
only be sent out from "anything spf.protection.outlook.com" (these
are Microsoft servers), or IP addresses 54.209.67.9, 18.210.58.96 and 3.213.113.25.
Furthermore, there is a DMARC entry set that explicitly tells the world to reject
any email that doesn't pass the SPF record (and possibly any DKIM - I haven't
checked those - yes, I am lazy).

I checked my mail server, and at least the last 4 days, any email sent from BL
to us was sent from IP address 54.208.31.131 . This address is not
on the SPF record, so the current setup basically says to the world "please
reject BL emails from blsmtp.bricklink.com".

Fortunately (for quite a few BL users) many email servers don't yet follow
these directions, and accept BL email coming from a non-conformant address.

BL should at least include 54.208.31.131 in their SPF record, and possibly check
DKIM.

I would like to work with the assumption that certain values are essentially
primary keys. category IDs, color IDs, really anything named xxxx ID. It seems
to me that the nomenclature in use implies that anything called 'id'
is immutable while anything else is fair game for modification during catalog
updates.

There are precious few fields that can be considered a primary key. Part numbers
can (and do) change, people's login name can (and do) change. There is no
way for us mere mortals to access the actual primary key info for these entities.

If you are considering keeping things like parts history, be prepared to either
set up some links from old part IDs to new part IDs, or update your old data
with new IDs (finding out what the new part ID is when you only have the old
part ID is fun - what is the new part ID of "372"? - most times, the
old ID is kept as an alternative on the site, so you can search for it, but not
from the API). Some parts keep flip-flopping IDs (like 6093/x104, 41669/x346
etc).

Some things that do stay the same are order numbers, color IDs, lot IDs.

Enjoy!

Niek.
