Nothing wrong with writing to a seller in advance and letting the seller know
that you are STILL(?) waiting for an issue to get resolved, and that you are
willing to leave a negative feedback if it wont get resolved.

If you have wronged the buyer AND have not offered a suitable solution - negative
feedback is warranted. It is not extortion.

On ebay even the mere mention of feedback is considered extortion (Not sure about
here?) but either way I don't believe feedback should be brought into the
conversation at all since as a seller I'd rather the buyer know that I'm
fixing the problem off my own back because its the right thing to do rather than
because they assume I'm only fixing the problem because they state they will
otherwise leave me negative feedback! In fact in those situations after resolving
the problem I may even consider blocking the buyer since feedback should not
be a bartering tool! The feedback is for the buyer/seller alone to decide upon
once the transaction process is complete and any issues resolved(or not)

I get what you are saying. What I had in mind were the situations where seller
is either non-responsive, not following with his or her proposed solutions for
weeks, or offering a solution that is completely unsuitable.

I might still be willing to accept the fact that a mistake has been made and
allow the seller to address it. Before leaving a negative feedback I might message
the seller, letting know my intentions in advance. Not meant as a threat, but
more as a last-resort in an effort to get the seller's attention.

How it is worse than leaving a negative FB right away?

Got an order on Jan 28, 2024 00:58 however not receiving the mail from it so
far. Send the invoice on Jan 28, 2024 13:36 not receiving that mail either.

Up until yesterday receiving all mails, nothing changed afaik.

Anyone else same problem?

Only just noticed that I don't receive copies of Invoices / Purchases since
January 27th.

Please fix asap.

I guess we are the only ones not getting copies of messages of placed orders
and invoices.

Missing copies January 27 - January 30

Same here, nothing wrong with the mailbox itself receiving other mails perfectly
just BrickLink mails are missing.

This still is an issue and it's been 7 days now. I don't get any messages
in my mailbox for orders placed and Invoices send.

I wonder why we have a 'Technical Issue' topic, for I have this feeling
it's not being read by BrickLink employees who are supposed to look into
it and do something about it. Waiting for a week wondering if BrickLink knows
about this issue and is working on it doesn't feel good.

Something changed starting January 27th and it wasn't me.

PS

I also contacted the Helpdesk, but didn't receive a confirmation Email, nor
a ticket number or whatever. Which doesn't surprise me for I didn't
get a ticketnumber since January 12, 2007. It looks like these ticketnumbers
I read about are reserved for 'special' members.

All fine here with the emails. Incl auto-checkout, orders needing manual invoicing,
order additions etc. Using gmail.

As for BL helpdesk - it confuses me again and again each time I need to use it.

If I recall correctly - at some point BL implemented a separate helpdesk platform.
You needed to register separately - I still have the confirmation emails.

Not even sure if it was a completely stand-alone system, or integrated with regular
helpdesk to some degree. You can read about it here:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=842892

You were getting a ticket number automatically when reporting through that, but
that whole thing now seems to be gone?

Or I am just confused again. But what I remember is that, apparently, I learned
about the existence of that separate platform way too late. The links to it were
hidden very well, if they even existed at all.

Again, just the challenge of finding it used to confuse the hell out of me. A
typical TLG stle IT clusterfumble. Your tickets were also getting marked
as SOLVED light-years ahead before getting even remotely close to actually getting
solved.

My reply here is probably just as helpful. You're welcome?

Very obvious and simple, you say.

Gonna go with Opera anyway. 2014 is wayyy past when it used to be any good, and
no way you would expect more than one person to guess this one but.. whatever

It's actually FireFox isn't it.

Margin scheme on second-hand goods?

Nah, ever since I became a VAT payer I have been paying full VAT for all the
sales of used parts. There probably is a way to so something about it but, generally
speaking, I am no longer buying used lots to resell anyway.

One thing is sure, as a pro I dislike when sellers refuse non-VAT, sure I'll
pay no problem, but I may not come back, especially when it's easy to set
up (see above)

But please note that it's not that simple. I wrote earlier in this thread,
that this comes with extra work for the seller, at least when you're Danish.
You must verify VAT numbers and billing details and do accounting each month.

/Jan

Yes, it is that simple. It is called 'the cost of doing business'.
It is your choice to sell over the limit for when you are required to become
a VAT payer. And yes, every seller must validate whether the party that is asking
you to deduct VAT is legit.

There is an analogy in a traffic jam for what you are doing. Everyone
is stuck, but every now and then there is someone who thinks that they are better
than others and takes the shoulder to jump the queue.

What you are doing by refusing to deduct VAT for legitimate VAT-registered buyers
is exactly the same - you are jumping the queue. Letting everyone else stand
in the line, because your time is more valuable.

Moreover - you are suggesting that it is no big deal - the buyers can just get
the VAT back when doing their accounting. Why are you not willing to do the right
thing and invoice without VAT in the first place? Oh, yes. Because you
don't want to spend that extra time and effort. You don't see the hypocrisy?

You are also both right and wrong about BL handling VAT automatically. Yes, BL
removes VAT automatically for your buyers that are outside the EU. For sales
within the EU you have to tick a box to remove VAT - see the picture below. You
can manually un-check the boxes. And, no, it is not illegal, as you are trying
to say. We have that feature specifically for this reason. But you will say anything
just to justify yourself.

Why so angry? Because stuff like this makes me angry.

Parts: Sticker Sheet

But what we pulled from a sealed sticker-pouch is the other way around - we got
three white sheets and two grey ones.

Maybe someone recalls having the same issue, or perhaps have seen/bought second-had
sets with the stickered containers matching this pattern?

I wonder if this is just a freak accident and no alternate variant is needed
in the inventory, or we do actually need to add the variant. If this has happened
before - there might be used sets floating around that are 'invalid/incomplete'
due to this.

Additionally. The 2006 variant (10152-3), apparently, had some hiccups with the
production because of TLG being short on some parts? Read:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1022655

Perhaps they were short on more than one thing, resulting in shipping sets with
different counts of the sticker sheets as well?

I understand your point of view but I strongly disagree and I think most buyers
will disagree.

I really like Yorbrick's point of view :

There are no guidelines as to what is meant by new/used for instructions (same
with boxes). But if the parts guidelines carry over ...

New Parts - Parts are brand new, taken directly from new sets or were purchased
"as new" in another form such as accessory packs or Pick A Brick and
have been handled only for sorting. These parts have never been used in any
manner.

I would say that scanning a code on a booklet with a LEGO specific scanning app
is using that feature of the instruction booklet.

I think that since BL is own by Lego, they'll have to do policy on this and
the easiest would be to carry on the part's guideline as Yorbrick suggested.

In that case explain why do we even have the option to list Set Boxes as NEW?

I'm not sure this has been officialy addressed.

Lego is now giving VIP points when you scan a newer instructions with a QR code,
it's give 20 points (in Canada).

This could cause problems if a buyer buys a new instructions from a BL seller
and that BL seller has already scanned the QR code while parting.

I think a buyer should expect to be able to scan himself a new instruction he
bought on BL and have the points.

As for used instructions, a buyer should expect it's already scanned.

Your opinion ?

I suppose it will depend on if the instruction manual is "New" or "Used".
If "New", then I expect to be able to scan the code. If "Used",
then I wouldn't.

BL rules only account for the physical state/condition of the item being sold.
Unless we have a provision in the rules to address the digital part of the instructions
- buyers should not expect to be able to scan the code.

If such a provision is put in place - then we also need a secondary condition
for instructions stating whether the QR code is Scanned/Not Scanned. Both for
new and for used - because no one is saying that a used set of instructions
can not have an unscanned code.

Caveat - sometimes the codes can be printed with faulty lines, blurry etc. Sometimes
they are unusable, or sometimes QR scanning apps that have a good error-correcting
algorithms can still make them work. But at this point we can not always determine
who's at fault - QR code itself, or the end user might be trying to use a
crappy QR app. Who's to blame - the Seller or the Buyer?

Now we have an option of spending development time to implement such features,
subsequently deal with buyers and sellers getting into quarrels because of QR
codes sometimes not working etc. All for ~0.02 cents worth of money per instruction
manual?

Or we can have a provision in the rules saying that stated condition of instruction
booklets for sale only specifies the physical state/condition of the item. Or
that the QR code should be assumed to be scanned/not working, unless seller specifically
states otherwise in the extended description.

Sellers, if they want, can always use the Description filed to state whether
the QR code has been scanned/not scanned, is blurry, is faulty etc.

Then you get emails like this:

Mate are you taking the piss? Just got my order and you've sent me the
non printed cheap version of the shredder helmet and the two venom heads are
in terrible condition.

The whole order will be getting sent back to you at cost to you and I expect
a refund for the order and shipping/packing costs.

I will get proof of postage so it can't be questioned

Really disappointing service

I have included my response for transparency:

Hi,

Thank you for your order.

If you look at my feedback on bricklink, you will see it’s 100% positive. Obviously
mistakes happen and I’m happy to rectify.

What I don’t appreciate is aggressive emails, you could have been slightly more
pleasant, maybe try that in life and you’ll surround yourself with positive people.

Probably starting an email with ‘Mate are you taking the piss?’ Is not the right
way to go.

I understand that a few parts are not up to your standard and can only apologise
and happy to refund.

Don’t worry about sending it back, you can keep it and I will refund you now.

All the best for the future, sounds like you need the good wishes.

Steve

I’m sorry but am I wrong in thinking a bit of common decency wouldn’t go amiss?

Mate?! Are you taking the piss? Fight till the last one standing!

On a more serious note - if you ask me, your reply is risking to escalate the
matter even more as it can be perceived as being a bit too self-righteous. Not
that you are not allowed to express your discontent at all, but telling someone
to get better at life is perhaps a step too far.

On another serious note - looking at your feedback and the problem at hand, it
does seem that your attention to LEGO condition is a little sub-par. Shipping
non-printed pieces instead of the printed ones, terrible condition pieces(?),
yellowed minifigs - if this keeps happening to you then it is something else
than 'mistakes happen'.

Good luck.

I have a package returned back to the seller in US because of missing ITN. I
see it is something that has to be included in documentation for export sales
over 2500 USD.

It does seem that it's not that big of a deal to get it and the seller just
was not aware, but it's also not the first time that he's asking me for
guidance.

As far as I understand all he has to do is to register at ACE and go from there.
Seems like a regular Joe should be able to do all the steps.

Question - is it all real simple, or are there some tips and tricks that are
handy to know for someone doing it for the first time? It's an individual,
not a company.

Your problem order should be retained for 3 years from the original order date,

Order somewhere in the system - yes. But orders are removed form your order placed/received

less than 150 euros.

Check your individual shipping settings - you might have set different min. buy

Thanks for a good laugh Sorting by color.. this one gets pretty much everyone

For a small shop - sell the sets whole, don't part them out. Although - sometimes
selling just a few parts and minifigs can get you the same money as selling the
entire set, but it is somewhat an exception to the rule.

Use BrickStore to import the set inventory, auto-set prices to 6-month avg, sort
by lot value and see how many lots you need to select until you reach the value
of the set itself. If you enjoy running the store - I'd encourage you to
try this evaluation even for seemingly common sets. Sometimes you can get surprised.

Just don't forget to think about the time you will spend organizing ALL the
parts into your inventory, then imagine how long it would take you to pick it
all piece by piece or lot by lot. Lots of parts will actually give you a negative
value once you account for everything. But once again - if you enjoy the
process then there's nothing wrong with that

with a large gap, but usually with a small gap.
When trying to find some extra items to reach the treshold, it happens I go into
a next shipping band, making it more expensive for the second time.

My suggestion is really simple: add a "give-extra-money" (or "donation"
box to reach the min. buy treshold.
Let's say I have 3.75 USD in my cart and the min. buy is 5.00 USD. I just
fill in 1.25 USD in the "donation" box (a sort of a "special service
product" to reach min. buy treshold while still keeping the same weight
and dimensions of my order.

You could even think about linking the extra money to a charity. If the seller
would configure his shop saying he allows going under min. buy treshold when
the buyer pays the gap to charity (preferably managed by BrickLink, so the surplus
is automatically donated to charity).

Voted YES. However when I am facing this problem I just go sort the sellers inventory
by the price and see if I could use some of the more expensive items. This way
I can sometimes come across some rare pieces that can be re-sold.

You can do the same, but if you just really want to donate instead - message
the seller and tell them to keep those items.

Nor do I believe it is commonly acceptable to
ship minifigs as regular mail with only first-class postage in plain envelope.
It is definitely NOT a good idea to send high dollar items this way.

One small remarks:
- What's considered "high dollar"?

One larger remark:
- Regular mail can be shipped as padded envelope or letterbox (it's actually
a small, sturdy carton box that's max 3 cm thick). I use it all the time
as sending as untracked medium, for items op to 30 USD (which is my own limit
of "high dollar" )

To the list of remarks I'd add - what is considered 'properly wrapped'?

As for a letter/letterbox - the definitions of what constitutes what differ from
country to country. A few years back Lithuanian post was calling a 'letter'
anything and everything that is less than 2kg and does not exceed L+W+H of 90cm.
Then they changed everything and 'letters' were only up to 2.4cm in thickness,
then a year later they changed everything again.

And now after a THIRD price increase within a few months period - we sometimes
find a door-to-door courier delivery to be cheaper than sending a package via
post.

quick and dirty fix - maybe in a way of having an option to enable a clickable
icon on the order's received page where buyer's VAT ID can be entered
by the seller. Plus a Basic Macro Tag to place it where you want it in the invoice.

I put it in the tracking field (that I don't use).

Addition: and I use this field as a macro/conditional tag to show it in the Invoice
email.

We use the tracking field for other notes - when the order has been collected
prior invoicing, which carrier/website we used to get the best shipping cost,
when we are awaiting a reply from the buyer in regards to missing pieces etc.
All that gets replaced by the tracking number afterwards. The edit order/order
note feature for this is useless as the notes are not visible at a glance (require
mouse hovering), also require loading of multiple pages just to change the note
AND we can not update our 'notes' on multiple orders at once.

Besides, the location of that field is super convenient for this.

And no, we are not asking to provide us with an additional field - the layout
even with the unnecessary columns disabled is already too wide to fit on a Full
HD (1920*1080) screen. Hence the ask to have the VAD IT not as a field but as
an icon.

We do store the VAT IDs in the 'My Note on User', as well as the phone
numbers - so we do not have to keep asking the same customers for the 30th time.
But even if it would be possible to make that field show up in the invoice via
a Macro Tag - it would not really work because there can be different info in
that field. As is its intended use

You don't know they are not paying just yet, as it is the same day. They
have a week to pay. If they are doing it for quotes, ensure you have quotes turned
on.

After they get the shipping price from your order and don't pay, then either
cancel or NPB. If someone replies saying shipping makes the price too high, I
tend to cancel. If no response, I NPB.

I understand they get time to "pay" thus typing up my inventory for a
week.

Are you talking about the quote feature, when buyers can request a quote without
placing the order? In that case you inventory is not tied up until the quote
is accepted.

NPBs aren’t automatic and Sellers aren’t obligated to file the NPB right after
the 5 days

If you’re a seller offering IBAN (or other ‘slower’ offsite method), you know
how long it can take to make the payment.  So you wait to be sure the buyer is
really NPB before filing.
And then, the NPB completes a bit faster than it does now.

If you file the NPB at the same time the buyer initiates the payment, the buyer
should still have time to answer to the NPB and therefore prolong the completion
delay.  They can even prove to BL that they paid (even it hasn’t arrived on the
seller’s account yet).  So the payment has time to arrive and you can remove
the NPB before it’s auto-completed.

Note that I think the 2-3 days suggested by OP are too short.  The buyer should
still have a few days to answer and answering (which, AFAICT, rarely happens
when the buyer is really NPB) should still delay the NPB long enough for the
payment method to complete.
But shaving a day or two could sooth some sellers’ pains.

Yeah, I suppose you are right. I do not have an NPB problem (knock on wood) so
I do not know just how painful it gets. Rules look fine to me, but I guess I'd
be advocating for a quicker turnaround if I was in the OP's shoes.

It might feel that you have many lots and many parts. But the reality is that
other, bigger stores have the exact same parts + many other parts for the buyers
to choose from.

When you are a new seller and starting small - the only ways you can compete
is either by by having exclusive/rare parts OR by being very cheap. Having shipping
options that are less expensive than 16 EUR also helps. Is 1kg the smallest size
that you can ship?

I took a look at some of your pricing - some minifigs are priced okay but asking
16 EUR for this is one is not going to get it sold any sooner than in maybe 4
years once the set gets discontinued and the prices start going up.

All in all - do not expect to make a profit from a small store.

IBAN payments are often instant or almost instant as well, but banking systems
in some countries are still very backwards and can take a couple days to go through.

Invoice on WED, add a day for a buyer to initiate the payment on the evening
of THU. Say we are dealing with slow banks this time so the payment reaches seller's
acc on Tuesday as we also need to strike two non-workings days out. We are already
looking at 6 days - when the payment was submitted the next day after invoice.

If the buyer submits payment on the 5th day we are already looking at 10+ days
in total.

Hit 'show more options' in the right pane, and enter the set number at

'Parts from Set:'

This will return all items in your inventory that are part of that set .

Wow. I can't believe I have never noticed this option! Very cool.

  Hello,

Some of my chromed parts in poor condition (severely faded). I would like to
remove the chromium entirely and reveal the solid colors (white, grays).

Example:

Part No: 59 Name: Minifigure, Weapon Sword, Greatsword Round
*
59 Minifigure, Weapon Sword, Greatsword Round
Parts: Minifigure, Weapon {Chrome Silver}

1. Can you kindly point me towards a related LEGO online resource?

2. To confirm, would this fall under seller ToS?

All parts listed in your store must be genuine LEGO parts in their original,
unmodified condition.

3. 90s chrome silver parts = ABS plastic & chromium coating?

4. Best method for minimal damage? Ferric chloride (chemical etching)?

Thanks for helping,
Caleb

Whatever you do and whatever solution you use - if it involves mechanical brushing
of any sort - make sure to use as soft brushing tools as you can get away with.
In the past I have made the mistake of using a paintbrush to remove dust from
plates. It was enough to cause visible damage to the shiny surface in between
the studs. Very, very expensive mistake

Because, as it is now, 4623 (undertermined version) is in the Alternate section.
So it should either be deleted or replaced with 4623a.

Thanks.

I gave this a chance for almost 6 months. But in the meantime I am probably the
only one who reads this request. Besides 4623, there's also an undetermined
jumper in this inventory.

In fact there are still a huge lot of undetermined parts in inventories and we
just have to be patient that some day, someone can help us with those. It's
of no use to submit catalog requests for all inventories with undetermined parts.
For future requests like these, please use the Inventories Topic.

Diana

For what it is worth, the set that I opened definitely had the 4623b variant..

Only works for those who already know your store and want to come take a look.
Otherwise - your items are invisible from search and you will not be getting
any visitors.

What I used to do in the past is put a 999 UER minimum and have a message + password
on the splash page/terms - for those who really want to place the order and are
okay with waiting.

Yeap but as yorbrick said - the possibility of getting a complaint from someone
who could not be bothered to use their brain is always there. For that reason
I always make the password itself something like 'IcanWAITaMONTH'

Either way, you will probably be getting messages with 'can I buy for less
than 999'. It also comes with a possibility that someone will place you on
a 'bad list' because of your apparent high minimum. Not because they
don't read your terms, ofc

I have a buyer/seller who lost NSS claim against me, then initiated a false PP
claim which he won but still refused to return the items. $800 worth with about
another $100 in shipping.

The items were later listed at his shop for sale. That's some straight-up
SCAM.

Been about a year by now. BL closed the ticket.

To answer your question - YES. It is possible to take actions against such sellers
but the absolute truth is that BL does not care.

Need some help. Can someone from EU please test is it is possible to place
an order and go for the 'Please keep my order open!' as the shipping
method.

I have a buyer claiming that there is no such option.

Thanks a lot.

Not sure where is the most correct place to post this. Why is Lithuania excluded?

Please add Lithuania to shipping-to list.

"Will you ship the BrickLink Designer sets to all countries?

The BrickLink Designer Program sells through the LEGO.com Shop. This allows us
to give you a smooth shipping and support process"

LEGO.com has been shipping to Lithuania for a long time already.

Thanks

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=10152-3#T=P

In terms of sets being 'similar enough' to warrant being linked like
that... can we agree that wherever that line is, it is nowhere even close to
links like this?

Yes? No? Opinions?

I would absolutely suggest having a note that the set is a re-release. It is
actually in the BL Set Name itself. But please refrain using the wording "This
Item is similar to, but has a different number". In relation to how the set links
work in BL - at the very least it is misleading.

I think it fits with the definition for the relationship type just fine:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=599

"Similar Sets with Different Numbers - Matches similar sets with different
set numbers that may include different packaging materials, package graphics,
and some parts or aspects of parts. These differences are frequently related
to geographic area and time of release. Matches may include sets with the same
set number distinguished by different BrickLink suffix numbers only in cases
of three or more set versions, when some have the same set number and some do
not."

Cheers,
Randy

To me it looks that the spirit of the rule is for essentially same sets that
have some packaging differences, and may or may not have some very trivial differences
in parts. But for all intensive purposes are the *same* set. Don't you think
that that was the intended purpose at the time of writing the rule?

At the time this rule was written there were no examples like the one we are
looking at right now. There were no re-releases of sets that are 40 years old.
Pointing to this rule to excuse the linking is... I am not sure what would be
the best word. Ignorant?

We now have an extremely rare vintage set that has been re-released. Not even
to mention that one set reportedly has 91 parts and the other one more than double
of that at 184. BL is telling us now that the two things are the same.

Yes, but the tracking number still typically shows up in the USPS tracker as
e.g. "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment"

Ah, yes, absolutely. But try explaining this to a buyer, who messaged you with
'my package is not here yet' on Tuesday, after placing the order on a
late evening on the previous Friday

Whatever is happening with the OP's package - chances are that Hungarian
post 'destined' it to the UK. In theory - should be returned or perhaps
even re-routed to US straight from the UK..

If I remember correctly once it took 3 or 4 months for a package to be returned
to me from Malta, after the buyer's local post office screwed something up

Something that is odd to me is that my tracking app said there was information

a package from Hungary to the United States? When I go to parcelapp.com it says
the destination country is the UK. The last scan was September 2 leaving Hungary.

I don't suppose the USPS tracker has information on the tracking # ? Typically
it would show there if the package was destined for the US

By your logic, you should list all your hands and arms as used, because they
aren't in the original form.

That doesn't follow logically, as minifigures assembled by lego can be taken
apart and the parts sold as new. So logically parts such as torso assemblies
that are assembled by lego could also be taken apart and sold as new. Hence arms
and hands from new torso assemblies can be sold as new.

Thank you. I am starting to not have enough of the mental patience left in me
to keep explaining things at this level.

If you are that concerned, contact the seller before ordering.

Indeed, that is one solution and also check the seller's terms to see if
they note it. Whenever these posts come up in the forums you can make a note
of sellers that say they assemble them. Similarly, if a seller sends assembled
figures then a buyer can make a note. Then all these stores can be put on the
least favourites list if it is important to the buyer.

It is especially important for minifigures with capes or stickers.

Unfortunately this does not scale well. For someone looking to buy just a few
small things every now and then - okay that might work. But it is still time
consuming and should not be necessary..
However for buyers who may have to place dozen of orders all at once - it is
not viable having to message a number of sellers and wait for their replies.
I might be working on something that is time sensitive, and I may need to choose
the stores depending on several factors.

Let's have an example that is relevant to the topic. Say I am working on
a 250 lot, 20k parts project. Optimizing the orders at this scale is already
tricky to begin with. Lets say I need x25 of a part that not many stores have.
Seller A has the part at $0.5 a piece but the only shipping option is at $30.
Total comes to $42.5 . Seller B has the same part at $1 a piece, has $10 shipping
but also has $50 minimum. Total comes to $35 so I end up below the minimum.
I have another 249 lots to take care of and to optimize the whole thing as best
as I can. I need to know right away if, for example, I can include some NEW minifigs
from the seller B in order to reach the minimum. I may have some parts/accessories
that I need from those minifigs that may be either in the same or another wish-list,
I may also want to simply buy the minifigs to part-out for profit in order to
offset the higher total cost of the order etc etc.

This really becomes tricky. Imagine having to place 30+ orders but having to
wait who knows how long before even knowing if I can buy from 10+ shops that
I have to message. Being able to include/not include one or two shops may change
the whole thing, as then you may need to reshuffle a whole bunch of other carts.
It is very time consuming. Not event to mention that while I will be waiting
for replies some of the lots in other stores might get bought-out.. I hope you
see the pace at which the whole thing gets more and more complicated really quickly.
This really should not be necessary.

a minifigure or part assembly was originally sold assembled by LEGO, its component
parts after disassembly can also be listed as new.

Plus:
New Minifigures - Minifigures are brand new, taken directly from new sets
or were purchased "as new" in another form such as accessory packs or Pick A
Brick and have been handled only for sorting. Minifigures may be listed as new
either assembled or unassembled.

Scenario - I buy a NEW minifig from a seller with an intention to part it out
and sell as parts. But the seller is inconsiderate enough to assemble the new
minifigs for sale.

Rules only allow the sale of the previously assembled minifig's parts as
'new' only if the said assembled minifig was originally sold assembled
by LEGO.

@BL Team - please explain how this is not contradictory and/or fix this
once and for all. Disallowing the assembly of NEW minifigs for sale would be
the sensible thing to do?

OR! And this would be the worst way to solve this and thus I assume the most
likely one - add an additional setting for 'assembled' or 'unassembled'
for minifig listings and specifically disallow the sale of minifig parts as new
if they were previously assembled by someone else other than LEGO.

This must have been raised a million times before. Why is there such a strong
unwillingness to address this?

---------------------------------------

If the rule change is made, there should also be an exemption for listings with
IDs that precede the date of the rule change. Plus perhaps a greyed-out small
text added to ALL 'mew' minifig listings telling the buyer to familiarize
themselves with the rules.

Being a bit acid on this topic is, I am afraid, becoming mandatory. You know
why.

By your logic, you should list all your hands and arms as used, because they
aren't in the original form.

It's not my logic that needs to be addressed?

If you are that concerned, contact the seller before ordering.

Going back and forth with the seller about how they interpret the rules should
a) not be necessary and b) is not viable at a larger scale

In Problem Order, brikomania writes:
Good evening all, unfortunately, after placing 1200 orders in 425 different stores
in Bricklink, we have run into our worst experience, and to be honest, our first
bad experience.

Placed an order and requested for VAT free invoice. After this invoice was issued,
we placed a second order, three lots, requesting for it to be combined with the
first one. Since, if VAT was removed from one order, Bricklink unfortunately
does not combine orders, a new order was created. We requested for it to be combined
shipping with the first one.

The seller has since refused to combine the two orders, since 'we did not
choose the option for orders to be combined', and requests that we pay another
shipping fee for the second order. Keep in mind that both orders were not paid/picked/shipped.

We then requested for the second order to be cancelled. It is our understanding
that under EU law, we are able to cancel this orders (apart from our personal
thought that unless it was already shipped/picked, you should be able to cancel
an order anytime - it is just good practice). The seller is of course also refusing
to cancel the order, and started the NPB process.

Should we be able to cancel this order, am I right in thinking that we can do
so under EU law? We are both located in the EU and seller is a registered business.

It is a shame that someone can take something that would have been simple, and
a great business transaction (also being our third order in the store), and make
it this hard. It just makes no sense.

What are your opinions on this matter? Are we allowed to cancel the order?

I am still carrying an NPB completed against me by a seller who flat-out refused
to issue a zero-VAT invoice for me. It was a sizeable order.

Response from BL: "We are sorry the communication with the seller was not better".

Hi,

We have just learned that PayPal started limiting withdrawals to 500 EUR to our
account. This was explained to us after a call to our bank and, apparently, it's
a wide-spread issue among other users of the same bank. The bank said that this
is very recent and they are working with the Credit Card issuer to solve this,
but until this is fixed we were advised to make multiple 500 EUR withdrawals
instead.

Posting this in case others also got their withdrawals reversed - this might
be why.

Cheers,

Lukas

We have started receiving these messages a couple days back - one yesterday and
a repeat one today:

Hello,

You are receiving this email because your OSS document has been rejected. Please
resubmit it using directions provided here: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2550
Please contact the Help Desk if you have any questions.
Thank you.

BrickLink Team

Preceded by this message on 23rd of July:

Hello,

Thank you for enabling distance selling!

We want to inform that you have reached the EUR 10,000 distance selling threshold
on BrickLink for the 2021 calendar year. The new EU Marketplace rules went into
effect on July 1, 2021 indicating that any seller with more than EUR 10,000 worth
of distance sale of goods must register with their local tax authorities and
charge the VAT rate of the buyer’s country.

We have currently requested for your documentation to be resubmitted. Reasons
why the submission was declined are as follows:
- absent or mismatching OSS number (no country ID);
- absent or mismatching name and/ or address.

To learn more about distance selling, please see the European Commission article
on this topic: https://vat-one-stop-shop.ec.europa.eu/index_en
If you have additional questions, please reach out to customersupport@bricklink.com.

Thank you,
BrickLink Administration

The VAT/OSS section in our store management has not been touched since the beginning
of the year. Document is still showing up as attached and was approved by BL
a very long time ago.

Raised a ticket but you know how it goes. Posting this here to see if anyone
else is experiencing the same?

Thanks,

Lukas

It is real, I can confirm it.

Russell, I hope your investigative team will also look to see if sellers in question
parted out the sets that contain any of these questionable figs in the same date/quantity
ranges before taking action. Those Luke's were in an Advent calendar in 2020
(plus seven other sets so far) and they were highly parted out by many sellers
so having hundreds of that figure for some sellers isn't an oddity.

Q: Are we not supposed to list all of our inventory now in fear that new/overreactive
users, see comments above, may not understand LEGO economics and perceive us
as selling fraudulent items just because we caught a great sale a few years back?

This is a serious question. Your email deputized the community and asked them
to hunt down perceived frauds, citing that having high quantities of the figure
as a trigger, SW0778 has been around for a while in low dollar/seasonal sets
that frequent the discount aisle.

- Big B

I get the logic, but it comes from having a limited/flawed knowledge of some
of the ins and outs on how, specifically, minifigs and their parts market works.

* Some sellers sell the sets without minifigs. On various marketplaces, not even
necessarily on BL. Minifigs are sold on BL.
* Some sellers are selling off legitimate minifigs/minifig parts in large or
even obscene quantities. Sourced and PAID FOR buying directly from LEGO
* Some sellers are re-selling the said minifigs or their parts
* Some sellers are buying up the loose minifig parts from the aforementioned
sellers and (re)selling completed minifigs
* Some sellers have been, and some still are sitting on large amounts
of unlisted inventory for years

Meanwhile:
* Some sellers are using illegitimate ways of obtaining the minifigs or their
parts from the factories/distribution centers, perhaps faking the prints, or
(re)selling outright fakes. Sometimes perhaps without even knowing, although
not very likely(?).

Similar story with stickers and just rare parts in general. I am sitting on piles
of stickers bought a long time ago and it will still be a while until they are
listed for sale.

How to tell just by looking at listings? Damned if I know. But one thing can
not be stressed enough. BL - you better have a goddamn solid proof before
messing with the shops or their inventories. There are sellers who have been
in the minifigs/their parts market for years and whose livelihood very much depends
on this specific part of the market.

With all this being said - while I have personally not encountered any issues
except blowing £200 on suspected fake 42083 stickers and a fake-print original
Millennium Falcon radar, that was several years ago. With the quality of fakes
apparently getting better and better - I would be very surprised if they are
not being sold on BL for some time already. Be it in large, or small quantities.

But again - neither a high qty nor a single buyer's complaint is necessarily
good enough to close a shop up or remove listings. High qty - look at the points
above. Buyers complaints - some buyers know what the are talking about, some
don't. Just as an example - look up the amount of threads where a random
brand new user is accusing seller of shipping a fake hairpiece, headgear, utensil
or whatever else 'because it does not have a LEGO logo on it'.

I don't even know how BL should address this. But as one of the sellers who
may potentially be affected and also knowing how sometimes BL does things - right
now I am terrified.

1. See BrickLink raise its seller fees to, say, 10% of the grand total, or

No. There'd be no reason for this.
Even if they've hired 10 developpers full time, they still very probably
make a (very) decent profit of it.
And as you said, there's not much which have changed that could justify this.
Even the MOC shop was closed.

Maybe we should start by taking the trash cans off of their heads. Kind of hard
to debug when you can't see your code… http://v4ei.com/comics/index.php?id=500-errors

The choice of keeping staring at the inside of the trash can instead of the source
code.. says all you need to know about the source code.

Older production 4449 do not have LEGO LEGO. Same goes for a large number of
old LEGO parts. Especially when talking about minifig head/hair pieces, minifig
accessories, or just small parts in general.

This is a case where customer is definitely not right. Good luck though.

set is sold if it is still in its original Lego branded shipping box?

Not really. Will you have taken it out of the box, or leave the shipping box
sealed? If you can convince the buyer it is worth more, you might get a higher
price but it is still just a sealed set whether it is in a LEGO branded shipping
box or not and will appear as new(sealed).

I would have left it in the box, but if there is little value added then ill
probably look elsewhere. It determines where I get certain items from; direct
from Lego or cheaper outlets. Thanks!

If you can get them 10% or 20% cheaper than LEGO elsewhere, then the price
difference on purchase is likely to be much more than the price difference when
you sell, comparing when you have the original shipping box and when you don't.
Some other retailers also ship them in the original LEGO shipping boxes too.

So the saving made by purchasing elsewhere could be greater than the gain made
by having it in that Lego shipping box?

If there are several sets up for sale and all other things being equal (shipping
cost etc), the seller who still has it inside the Original LEGO Shipping Box
will sell his set easier and faster. Maybe not strictly speaking, and there will
always be buyers who just could not care less. But, especially when it comes
to very high-value sets, there are also buyers who will pay a bit more if the
set is still in the original shipping box. If I am already paying $1000 for a
set then yes, for sure I will drop an additional $20. For one - this is just
the way it is with collectibles - every additional bit of authenticity counts.
On top of that - even though a perfect box is never guaranteed even buying directly
from LEGO - the fact that a set has never been removed from the original shipping
box also means that it had more chances of preserving the MINT condition of the
set box. As opposed to a set which has been pushed around on the shelves somewhere
in the warehouse, got additional dings and scratches from handling and re-packaging
etc. For high-end sets the condition of the set box has a very big affect on
the price.

But at the same time - just go with whatever source gives you a better price.
You will not get 10% more from a buyer just because you have the original box.
Once again there are always exceptions and there are buyers who would be very
happy to pay for that, but it may take a long time for such a buyer to show up.

P.S. I was speaking more from the point of view of rare sets that became collectibles.
If you are just re-selling current production sets then none of the above matters.

box also means that it had more chances of preserving the MINT condition of the

Hi mate, Weve been buying for a while now and it kind of depends who sends the
items. The under 135 quid triggers 20% to be paid the seller and thats where
there has been problems because people then have had to pay the 20% again upon
the items arriving the UK.

We notice that most couriers are paying the 20% on the buyers behalf then attempting
to recoup this at a later stage. We have fedex invoice us for the 20% plus a
12 quid charge for the luxoury of them paying it for us!!. Other couriers like
UPS have sent a debt collection agency after us for 60 quid... Even though there
was no attempt to tell us about the vat owed and we phoned loads to get through
to some 1. And ofcourse we couldnt, we paid and no problem like but thats not
the point.

So. im hearing that there will also be new charges that come into effect from
the 1st of january 2022. we currently wait for a package now 350 quid from germany
and are realy eager to see what new charges will be brought foward. Soon as we
know ill update you mate to help you out. I mean, when you place an order and
the import, postage and fees are more than the order it kind of kills the happiness.

Wow..

First Edition Print - Illustration in Water Color for LEGO® Wooden Toy Elephant,
Circa 1937
Printed on premium paper with embossing.
25.5cm x 31.6cm (10.03" x 12.44")

Available exclusively as a VIP Reward for 650 points beginning in August 2019.
Between November 27 and November 30, 2020, the "cost" of this reward was reduced
to 325 points as part of a Black Friday / Cyber Monday promotion before returning
to the original 650 points. Beginning February 1, 2021, the "cost" of this reward
was reduced to 150 points in celebration of LEGO Patent Day.

*******************************

ADDITIONALLY
Currently it makes it look as if you're buying an actual watercolour item
from 1937

I propose a name change to:

First Edition Print - Illustration in Water Color for LEGO Wooden Toy Elephant,
Circa 1937 (2019)

It is in the gear / poster section, so should be fairly obvious you are getting
a poster and not a real toy of an elephant from 1937.

I'm fairly sure the naming of it here is exactly what LEGO called it. It
is no longer in my rewards centre, but "1st Edition of Wooden Duck Print, 1958"
is. It also has the same name in the brickset database, suggesting it is LEGO's
name for it.

If this one gets changed to a different name then so should others like

Gear No: 5006005 Name: First Edition Print - Yellow Spread from LEGO System Brochure, 1958
*
5006005 First Edition Print - Yellow Spread from LEGO System Brochure, 1958
Gear: Poster: LEGO Originals
to make it clear you are getting a print and not a brochure in this case or an
original patent in some other cases. Although it is obvious (to me) that these
are prints based on their category.

And does it really need the full history of the VIP point costs for redemption?
No other VIP rewards have this information and someone would need to keep track
of the redemption costs (and the history of the redemption costs) of all VIP
gifts such as:

Gear No: 89688 Name: Notebook, Stranger Things
*
89688 Notebook, Stranger Things
Gear: School Supplies: Stranger Things

Set No: 40178 Name: Iconic VIP Set polybag
*
40178-1 (Inv) Iconic VIP Set polybag
198 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2017
Sets: LEGO Brand: LEGO Brand Store: Model

Set No: 5004590 Name: Bat-Pod
*
5004590-1 (Inv) Bat-Pod
338 Parts, 2015
Sets: Super Heroes: The Dark Knight Trilogy

Gear No: 5005205 Name: VIP Chrome Red Minifigure Key Chain with LEGO Logo Tile, Modified 3 x 2 Curved with Hole - Yellow Label
*
5005205 VIP Chrome Red Minifigure Key Chain with LEGO Logo Tile, Modified 3 x 2 Curved with Hole - Yellow Label
Gear: Key Chain

They don't even get a note that they were VIP gifts, just like sets don't
get a note about which stores they were sold in or whether they were given away
with newspapers or magazines. Add to that that the costs (and the history of
the costs) of regular sets is not stored either, so why do it for VIP redemptions?

I see the name of the item has already been changed and the note added. Catmins
- thanks for the quick turnaround!

@yorbrick
1) You have misunderstood me. I don't think anyone looking at the listing
would think that they'll be getting an actual wooden Elephant? My issue was
in the description not being clear enough and leading to think that it is an
actual watercolour artwork from circa 1937. I still do not think
the naming as it is right now is clear enough:
LegoFirst Edition Print - Illustration in Water Color for LEGO Wooden Toy Elephant,
Circa 1937

Whenever such info is available - artwork is always displayed/listed with the
year or at least a general timeline for when it was/is thought to be conceived.
That kind of info is also most often listed at the very end. That's *exactly*
what we have right now and it is just not right. No matter how you look at it
in it's current form - the answer to the question 'Can this be misleading'
is 'yes'. This is not an opinion and it is not something debatable. What
is debatable is whether BL wants to have it this way or not. Hence my suggestion
to add an actual year of production of the print. If there was no year mentioned
in the description - we probably would not be talking about this.

2) Extended description - argument that other items do not have such info is
not an argument to not add it. Origins of the item are always interesting to
know, especially when it has something to do with art. As far as the MSRP/retail
price goes - the amount of points needed to redeem the item... also tells a story.
If the proposed description was an essay instead of a paragraph then yes, perhaps
it would be a good idea to see if it can be shortened but in this case I do not
really see a problem. Besides, the value of any random LEGO set sold at lego.com
can at least be ball-parked. While saying that 'this was available to redeem
for points' leaves you guessing about the amount of points required/relative
value at the time.

You need to fill out custom documents (CN23).
HS code: 9503.00
Description: Lego plastic toys
Quantity of item: 1
Value of item: for example 100 Euro (do not include shipping costs)

If you ship with PostNL, When the package arrives in Canada, custom officers
"may" charge the buyer 12% (* 100 Euro) + $9.95 CAD . In general they are busy
and let Toys go wiwthout any charge. By my experience, the change they charge
custom fees increase if
- the value of package is high
- the size of package
- the if package has full tracking (vs. no tracking)

It is normally CN22.

CN23 instead of CN23 is required only if the package is above 2kg and/or the
value exceeds.. I do not remember the exact amount. I think it is over 400 EUR
or something. Best to call your post office and ask.

DO NOT FILL CN23 "JUST IN CASE".
If the package lands into the hands of someone who does not know or simply could
not care less - your buyer may be hit by extraordinary exuberant processing fees,
several times higher compared to what they are for packages with CN22.

CN23 instead of CN22

A common problem with Russian banks Ask your seller to manually create a PayPal
invoice from their PayPal account.

There are two ways to create a payment request by the seller.
1) 'Request Money' - this will NOT work
2) ';Create an invoice' - this should work

  Hello everyone,

Just wanted to see what you are thinking about adding the packing slip/order
overview to a shipment. Do you prefer this as a buyer? Or are you typically verifying
your order with your tablet or laptop at the side?

Curious to see if the packing slip improves the buyer experience or not.

Cheers,

A hard no from me. As a buyer I discard them without even looking and it saddens
me every time when I find it included. Just a waste of resources, incl extra
shipping weight. Eve if it does not increase shipping costs it still is an additional
weight.

Imagine we would cut 5% of weight from ALL the consumer shipping/packages.

As a seller - in cases when a buyer needs it I am more than happy to print it
out. It happened a grand total of... once. Other than that - even if a fair percentage
of buyers would prefer to get it, I would still not include it unless specifically
asked. I understand the convenience of having a printed copy, but you would have
a hard time selling me the idea that it warrants the unnecessary waste.

This message will be sent via email to all sellers at the beginning of next week.
Please add any questions about this feature (along with any bug reports) to this
thread.

Bugs:

1. VAT is not calculated correctly. An item can't cost the same for a buyer
in Germany than a buyer in Hungary.

100€ sold to Germany would be 15.97 (19% VAT) leaving the seller 84.03 net
100€ sold to Spain would be 17.36 (21% VAT) leaving the seller 82.64 net
100€ sold to Hungary would be 21.26 (27% VAT) leaving the seller 78.74 net

The price of items should be calculated like this: (SellerListPrice/SellerVAT)*BuyerVAT

So for me it would be:
(100/1.21)*1.19 = 98.35 for German buyer
(100/1.21)*1.21 = 100 for Spanish buyer
(100/1.21)*1.27 = 104.96 for Hungary buyer

2. B2B transactions should be 0% VAT. As of now this is not possible because
when enabling the OSS the checkbox for VAT is disabled.

Just not disable it and we are good to work. VAT is responsibility of the seller.

These bugs are not suggestions, these are facts of how business work in Europe.

Thanks,
Sergio
Stellar Bricks

In regards to the visible prices for end-users in countries with different VAT
rates - I gave a call to my tax helpline and their answer was that Lithuanian
Tax Law does not state that the end-price must be the same. To me it was
explained that I can apply the OSS taxing in either way and that it is solely
up to me to decide how I wish to apply it. However. It was made clear that this
answer is strictly from the point of view of Tax Law. NOT from Consumer Law point
of view. They could not comment on the latter.

Thought this distinction should be made so to not confuse what exactly we are
discussing/complaining.

Point being - if I enable it, I will be fine from the VAT Law point of view.
Not sure about other types of law or regulations.

Now on to the bugs. First I would like to congratulate whoever was working on
the layout. You had one job to do and you butchered it. If you do not see why
- I honestly could not be bothered to explain but in all the seriousness - you
should be politely but rather strongly encouraged to do everyone a favour and
seek job opportunities elsewhere. Yes I am cranky today.

Layout issues aside - the form does not accept a valid OSS number. It spits out
the 'Please enter OSS number using only valid characters, letters and numbers.'.

You need to add a space to the allowed character pool. My VAT ID is LT100013393316
and my OSS number is LT 100013393316.

The information would only be available to the two parties involved in a transaction

I really want to set up both if that is possible. Does anyone know how to

You can create a new shipping method altogether and make it price-band. At the

Can a buyer re-post *any* FB if it gets removed by the administration? I am fuming

In Selling, mjsheller writes:
I am interested in hearing from Sellers, what is your favorite part of being
in the Lego business? Is it finding a great bulk buy? Sorting? Cataloging, pulling
orders or shipping the goods out the door?

My favorite part of owning a store is dumping onto the table the latest bucket
of bulk Lego and sorting through and gathering similar items. I would happily
just do that and someone else could inventory it and sell it. Sorting is definitely
my favorite and I am just happy as can be when I come across a part I have never
seen before and look on BL what it is and how it is used.

Pulling orders. Although I do not really get to do it any more..

For one - I am one of those 'maybe let's not throw this random useless
trinket out, someone sometime some-place might have a use for it' type of
individual. I would make a damn hood hoarder. And perhaps I will.. once the lights
start fading away

I have also always been fascinated by the stock market and LEGO parts market
is in many ways similar. It is very pleasing to see how some investments and
pricing strategies pay-out in the long-run.

The two points above enable me to be the place where builders and other buyer
types come to get the pieces they want/need. I like to imagine what type of build
the parts are going to be used for, and also - it is very fun to see or to
try and figure out which exact piece or a combination of parts brought the customer
in. Supplying parts for a build or a collection makes you feel as you are a part
of it. Be it a MOC, a set being reconstructed, a huge project, or whatever else.
Every now and then someone shows up with a burning order where the pieces are
needed yesterday because the project needs saving and my store is the
only one in the entire world having the pieces in need. When the buyer is at
the other side of the planet and shipping cost is not even a question. It feels
very good to be able to help in situations like that. It makes it feel that what
I do - matters.

Also worth mentioning - in many businesses.... you will only ever hear from your
customer if there is an issue. With LEGO it is.. a bit different. Talking with
fellow LEGO enthusiasts is something that I enjoy a lot as well.

Can you override the shipping standard for a specific item you have for sale
in your store? So that one item will only ship a certain way and price?

In your inventory page for the item you can set the Pkg type: to 'Manual
Only'

* Allow multiple VAT percentages *and* to exclude certain items from VAT all-together.
In many countries different product categories have different VAT% than the standard
rate

I.e. Printed Media ; Used goods ; Clothing/footwear

* Re-work lot consolidating when uploading inventory. I have not tested it to
see what exactly is going on, but if you have multiple lots of the same item
it seems that consolidating defaults to the smallest lot ID. Even if there already
is a newer bulk-lot and even if it matches the bulk-size

By a pure chance from a channel that I occasionally watch - a short video about
USPS happenings lately. Maybe it will be of a little help/insight for some:

This is as off-topic as it gets, but I need a bit of help. I am looking to purchase
a pair of speakers that are, unfortunately, very rare in Europe. A pair has recently
popped-up in Germany.

I have written to the seller but in all likelihood I might get dismissed as just
another random attempt at a scam

The price is very good so I am afraid to lose this. A similar pair got sold in
Norway in just a couple days and for more money.

Just need help to get me and the seller talking, the ad is on ebay-kleinanzeige

Would appreciate this a lot

what sneakers?

Not sneakers

Up until now, I have not ventured into the world of crypto, either sending, receiving,
or investing. Something this morning got my attention, and makes me wonder if
the time has arrived.

I live in a small rural north Florida community. Agriculture is big here. There
is a significant Latino community, many who work in agriculture, and many who
send remittances to their families. Up until now, that has been done via Western
Union. This morning, I happened to visit a local grocery store (which has a WU
terminal), and there sitting next to front door, is a Bitcoin (BTC) ATM. I get
why it's there. But this is the same store where I once received WU payments
for BrickLink orders. So BTC is now being treated on the same level as WU.

That leads to my question ... How could BTC payments (which are offsite) be handled
by BL, to account for VAT or Sales Tax collection ? I don't believe that
BL is getting involved with offsite payments, other than denying the ability
for buyers to use offsite for those states where BL is collecting/remitting sales
tax.

This is not purely a question concerning cross-border transactions. With Florida
about to become an implemented state for sales tax via BL, this would concern
both domestic buyers and international ones. Remember, some of those same agricultural
workers, might prefer to orders toys and pay with BTC. Sooner or later this bridge
has to be crossed.

In regards to Crypto - my payment processor has recently issued a notice that
they no longer support transactions to buy/sell cryptocurrencies. I can't
remember if it was regarding all or just BTC.. but that's not terribly important
here. What's important is the fact itself.

Other thing - back when BL was bought by our Korean friend - BL was actually
looking into the possibilities of escrowing off-site transactions (IBAN). I assume
the idea got dropped once it was realized that this service is not going to be
provided for free. Keeping this in mind - I would keep my expectations reserved
in expecting BL to address our wishes in having more payment solutions available.
