| | Quit Facebook. It's a Skinner box
|
Didn't know, yes, it's its perfect description, thank you
(sauce: Wikipedia)
Skinner created the operant conditioning chamber as a variation of the puzzle
box originally created by Edward Thorndike. While Skinner's early studies
were done using rats, he later moved on to study pigeons. The operant conditioning
chamber may be used to observe or manipulate behaviour. An animal is placed in
the box where it must learn to activate levers or respond to light or sound stimuli
for reward. The reward may be food or the removal of noxious stimuli such as
a loud alarm. The chamber is used to test specific hypotheses in a controlled
setting.

I see 4 new members in the last hour and many today - there doesn't appear
to be any kind of halt. And you only joined that group 2 weeks ago; you're
brand new 🤔 Nor do I see any spam or "decrease in content quality".
Did you reach out to the mods with any issues you had?

I lost the race despite the 800+ head-start

Maybe we need a third sideways option when voting for suggestions, with the meaning
it's not a great idea but it's not terrible. Then we could debate whether
it should be included to determine the percentage of voters that think an idea

The period of existence of our store is coming to an end.
It will be closed on February 15th.
I know that the attitude of many users towards our store cannot be called positive.
Due to the specifics of our work, process and delivery times, which arose due
to the current global situation in the world, which worries everyone, we received
negative feedback, but we always resolved the issues that arose in favor of our
customers.
We have been included in the lists of Highlighted and Featured stores many times
thanks to your support.
And I hope that one way or another, each of those who placed an order with us
was satisfied with our range and quality of parts.
Until the 15th you can place and pay for orders in our store. All orders paid
by you before the 15th will be sent to you according to the rules specified on
our store page. Please ensure you are happy with these shipping and delivery
times before placing your order.
We will be very happy to receive, assemble and process your last orders in our

Sorry to hear that Evgeny, wish you all the best to your future endeavors!

| | I see Bricklink as a preservation website, where it should be able to preserve
parts of LEGO's history. And the thing is, one cannot buy retired elements
such as parts from the Bionicle sets on Pick a Brick, or parts in retired
colors like translucent neon green. People will flock to Bricklink just to get
those retired elements. The act for merging catalog entries for similar molds
in order to avoid customer confusion not only endangers the preservation and
documentation of specific LEGO parts, but it also can create further customer
confusion and frustration in the event they buy the wrong type of parts.

can make unilateral decisions regardless of your or anyone else's opinions
or desires. In life you either evolve and adapt or you go extinct. If you choose
to go elsewhere because of this then I wish you luck, if not you will learn to
adapt to the new normal. That goes for everyone. I think quite a few of the
older sellers will continue to keep variants separate and sell them correctly,
others won't care, right now I guarantee there are plenty who don't care
and it won't affect them at all.
This is being done to streamline the listing and buying process for the vast
majority of the people who use this site. You don't hear them because they
aren't in the forums, they just want to buy and/or sell, they aren't
interested in anything else.
I wish I could remember the user who I used to talk to here who would get upset
because Daniel wasn't interested in listing the older non-brick items in
the catalog. This is not a Lego history site; it is a marketplace.
|
As a collector of part variations, I think that most (but not all) of the variants
that are now being merged are not more significant than variants that are currently
not separated in the catalog (such as CA/ABS, different IP protection marks,
hollow pins, split tubes and several more)

They don't have to ask. It is their website, not mine, not yours, not ours.
They own it, lock, stock and both smoking barrels. How many other websites listen
to their users as Bricklink does? They do listen a lot, but in the end, they
can make unilateral decisions regardless of your or anyone else's opinions

I did not sell), I see both sides of this. I tried to source the part by buying
three different sets that had it listed, and in none of the three was that variant

parts listings in Lego and BL are not always correct, due to no one’s fault.
This particular variant had different funtionality. But I think simplifying
the listings is a great idea. In most cases, the functionality of the part is
not changed, and like someone else said, few people care what stud type they
get. The site itself (for all of the reasons listed by others) is not user friendly,
but it seems that a.) many people like it that way and b.) trying to fix it is
exponentially difficult or impossible. We were shut down for two weeks due
to hackers - couldn’t they shut it down for two weeks to make it more user-friendly?
I know many say it is impossible, and I accept that if it’s factual. I am not
a programmer. Just throwing it out there that if we ever wanted to truly scale
up, the site would need to be easier to use. Simple things like how BrickOwl
has the drop-down menus for color choice would be great. Just my four dollars
a pound. LOL

Fair, and if all the pieces were only affected like you say. I would agree, and
just deal with it. But several pieces are being affected by functionality, and
several are being affected by aesthetics.

Yeah, this is a really good point that I hope isn't overlooked. All of this
seems to be about making things easy for sellers. Well, Bricklink could come
to our houses and sort out sets for us. That would make it easy for me.
But is Bricklink for sellers?
|
I honestly believe its about making things easier for buyers too because having
to search in multiple locations for the same part is not an efficient way to
buy, browse or compare prices.
Also many buyers are left mistakenly viewing certain minifigure heads with a
false sense of worth simply because they don't appear as part of the main
minifig inventory something I believe Bricklink considers to be one of its main
priority changes!

you need to acquire in order to complete your set.
|
It depends what you mean by complete your set. If you mean complete it according
to the BL inventory, it will actually be easier as you don't need to worry
about variants.
|
Yes, I do mean to complete it with the BL inventory, and I can not see how it
will be easier. For years now BL has broken down the variants, which has been
exhausting from a selling standpoint, but helpful from a buying standpoint for
me anyway. I don't see how cancelling these previous distinctions is going
to make things easier. For example, if I am missing a specific variation/mold
from a set that is from 1983, I can not just plug in any variant. If so, the
authenticity of the set is now marred.
|
Who says you cannot replace a part with a different variant if it does the same
thing? How do you even know that the minor variant listed here was not just the
correct one but the only one? In the same set, would you be happy putting in
a basic brick from 1983 or 1993 or 2003 or 2013 or 2023 if they are catalogued
under the same element number even though there were minor differences with time?
|
So next step is getting rid of the xxxxOLD bricks? they do the same thing.

| As a buyer of mostly vintage pieces for MOCs or completion of discontinued sets,
it is of utmost importance to me that the replacement pieces I get are of the
same line/variety/age as the set I want to get. It would be very inconvenient,
costly and downright annoying having to deal with merged parts and not having
them easily searchable. Isn't BrickLink supposed to be about fans of LEGO?
