while 2476b may have been in some sets, based on the unavailability and lack of picture it should be the alternate not the regular part

or make this option work.
It'd be great if you could organize the wanted list by your need/vs have
difference.
Currently you can only sort by have quantity, need quantity, item name, num,
etc... But no quick index of basically what you've got left to go and how
much.
If you've got 1/1 or 12/12 parts it'd be nice if they could sort to the
bottom with the highest difference of at the top.
Ex. 1/34 1x1 grey brick, 16/25 2x4 grey brick, 3/4 red headlight, 23/23 eggs,
11/11 hot dogs, 3/3 football helmets, 1/1 banana.
This way as you are completing a kit you don't have to continually scroll
to find what you need. What you've got left to go is default at the top,
ranked by the most to least, incomplete/complete.

Flat rate is more expensive than using your own box and buying priority mail
postage at commercial rates (e.g. through Pirate Ship) - even if you're buying
flat rate postage at the commercial rate.
|
I cannot remember the last time I used a USPS Flat Rate Box. It is no longer
the best deal for shipping typical BL orders.
Regional Box A, however, I do use fairly often to ship Lego. There are two styles
of Regional Box A -- one top-loader and one side-loader box.
ARRRGGGHHH. I just discovered THIS bit of news:
USPS Regional A and B boxes have been discontinued.

Let me add this information
https://link.usps.com/2022/12/29/priority-mail-change/
"Customers may continue to use any of the boxes that remain in their inventory,
but they will be treated as weight-and-rate packages."
Which is often cheaper than flat rate - a good time to get some free boxes. I
just had 10 each of 2 sizes delivered.
Also cubic shipping rate - I use shipstation via PayPal
"An alternative to Priority Mail Regional Rate boxes is Priority Mail Cubic,
a sub-service of Priority Mail. Customers use their own packaging for shipping,
but pricing is based on dimensions rather than weight. Priority Mail Cubic offers
a similar cost savings to Priority Mail Regional Rate boxes."
From shipstation
Updated October 25, 2022
"USPS cubic pricing is available by default when creating labels in ShipStation."
"ShipStation will automatically apply the cubic rate whenever it's cheaper
than the priority rate."

Why was this handled this way?
The difference is the color of the base. It's an obsolete item.
Entry should have been
Electric, Motor 9V 4 x 4 x 3 1/3 Trans-Clear with Black Conducting Plate
listed by the base color like hips and legs
Do we think LEGO will produce this obsolete motor again? AND with colors other
than Trans-Clear?
AB
|
The entry was handled this way so that sellers would have an opportunity to get
their inventories sorted correctly by the color of the base since the prior entry
did not specify this. Marking an item for deletion triggers messages to sellers
that the catalog team cannot easily do in any other way. If the entry would not
have been split, sellers would know nothing about the change to the way the part
was defined.
Cheers,

I think you are missing my point. We now have 3 items in the catalog that should
be one. Even when all sellers correct their listings there will be 2.
This part is trans clear with a variable color base. Not the other way around.
The new listings are now for 2 of the same part that should be only 1 differentiated
by the color (base color).
We already have the horrible sticker naming that are identical but came in different
sets so have multiple entries, which at least has been fixed somewhat.
I know I am wasting my time as this entry is 'done' but maybe next time?
Mis-cataloging items because it triggers an email notice is not a great plan,
FYI I did not get an e-mail notice.
If BL needs to create an e-mail/ messaging scheme related to certain catalog
changes, then that would be a good change. And sounds like a needed change.

2 - For orders with lots that fill the required quantity - I put the project/wanted

|
You can directly create a WL from the order (in the order’s details page, or
from the cart before checkout, or just after checkout). So you don’t have to
put a remark on each lot.
But you still need to juggle with multiple WLs / with the same parts in multiple
WLs (project 1, project 2…, order 1, order 2…).
|
Yeah - I am not really sure how this helps - seems to add more confusion/more
parts.
At best it shows the ordered qty parts inline and in sort order with the wanted
list items - and you must make sure to delete the items.
I'll give it a try on the next order's arrival, but have low expectations
that it will be helpful or a timesaver over present method.
Having the order number in the remarks allows an easy search for each wanted
list/project to sort the order into the respective places. You can already go
to the wanted list and search via parts in an order, which is similar, but you
don't have the parts qty information.
However, maybe I just lack imagination.
Has anybody posted a post/blog/video on using the wanted lists effectively? I've
only seen only introductory or basic function.

What I do is put the seller's name in the remarks field, and then when it
arrives, I know what MOC it's for. Just delete the remarks field afterwards
in case you order from that seller again.
The remarks field is searchable using the wanted list search page. Search by
the seller name and it will show the parts with that name in the remarks field.
The wanted list name is also shown

I agree with the suggestion. I was just coming to look for similar suggestions.
I have 2 different ways of dealing with the pending arrival of parts.
1 - I use the order number rather than the seller/store name in the remarks similar

2 - For orders with lots that fill the required quantity - I put the project/wanted
list name in the remarks box AND move to a separate wanted list called "ordered".
Then when I am in stores looking I can easily exclude parts for which I have
sufficient quantity.
When an order arrives I open the "ordered" WL and search by order number (sort
by remarks) - to clear all full lots first. Then a general WL search (by icon
on the order page) to clear all partial wanted lots.
Be curious to hear other helpful methods, too.

In this case they are previewing the large image, but at almost full size. If
larger large images were allowed then this effect would be minimize.
Considering the reason someone wants to look at the a large image is to see it
in more detail. The present size is limiting and submitters often submit images
that are smaller than the maximum allowed.
Why not a "full resolution" link on the large image tab? Which calls up the larger

Wellllll....
You can put everything on sale at XX% and then you can make sale prices permanent.
As for a function to allow repricing to the price guide averages, it has been
suggested many times before and 2 reasons typically -
1. Why hasten the drive to lower prices? (won't argue if this would really
happen or not)
2. Price fixing/collusion. This could run afoul of regulators as a form of price
fixing and price matching. So better to keep away from this appearance. Since
there are aftermarket tools that do this already - why introduce possible legal
problems.
If Foster were around I am sure he would have much to say. He always did in prior
suggestions of this nature.

You are correct it is the order information - BUT - you can easily add the remarks/comments
information by selecting multiple items (either shift or ctrl) and right click
set remarks and set many at one time. If you already have one with a remark -
it will suggest or autofill that remark so it is fast.
Andy

So that's a great idea and a nice fix for when an order has 1 project represented.
Unfortunately, if I have an order that has maybe 5 different projects represented
at the same time this gets tough. I would have to check each piece to see which
project it goes with and manually add each one. At least from what I think you
are saying this is what I would have to do.
|
Just had an idea. You could place the order in batches maybe. One batch for each
wanted list? Maybe an issue with some minimum orders. Just a thought.
| Also if I ordered 30 pieces in one lot and that lot is represented in 3 projects
I would have to split this lot into 3 and then change the quantities and remarks
of each one. Not much different then what I am doing now.

Yes - only exception being that nearly everything works fast in BS - ctrl+c ctrl+v
and choose consolidate or not (would nice to set the default to not consolidate
somewhere).
In general BS is much faster than watching and waiting for page reloads.
I think we both agree these are really work arounds and not an elegant solution.
There is opportunity for improvements to make the process faster and easier.
Since buyers don't get the sellers remarks - Why not an option to have wanted
list remarks added to order items? Could be done on the 'items on WL in order'
screen.

I am not sure what the easiest solution would be but these are some suggestions
I think would work help greatly:
- Make it so you can add a lot onto a wanted list that already has that lot.
Right now you get an error when you try to do that but if you could do it anyways
and have the option of consolidating the lots / remarks that would be great AND/OR
just allow a lot to be on a wanted list more than once. This way I can have
two of the same lot with different remarks because they go to different projects.
|
If you use BrickStock and add multiple instances of the same part to the same
list it will take it - as long as the item is not already in the list - so this
is very possible and should be an easy fix/improvement from a programming
standpoint.
| - Make wanted lists capable of showing more than 50 items at once. If an orders
page can contain all lots I think that a wanted list should be capable of it
as well.
|
| -Create some move/copy function that can split the lot. I have 10 items on Wanted
List A and I want to move 6 of them to Wanted List B and keep 4 on Wanted List
A.
-Separate the Move function and the Copy function. This would
at the very least allow steps 1 and 2 to be combined.
|
| -Update the "Show Items In Order on Wanted List" to include the quantity instead
of just the lot. That way it could actually do much of what I am explaining

I admit I did not quite make it to the end. But I feel what you are saying. I
have made it easier by downloading the order to BrickStock and adding any comments/remarks
there and then either deleting or adjusting the quantity.*
To me the biggest weakness of the 'items on WL in order' screen is that
it does not show the qty ordered. The addition of that # would make it much faster
and more useful.
Pulling purchased items/lots completely off BL in and into BS is better for me
as they no longer show up in the WL searches and in store query. And are easy
to add back to the WL if they are missing or sub-par quality.
Andy
*In the 'old days' there was a check box to 'exclude from searches'
which was great for purchased items - BUT confused many users as there were regular
questions like 'nothing shows up on my WL searches even though I have many
items on the list' nearly every time the user marked exclude(!) without knowing
what it did (WHAT!) then were confused.

turning it OFF.
|
When the function was implemented - long before you joined BrickLink - some people
argued the same way as you and many argued otherwise, so it was implemented as
an *option*.
|
More than that it was implemented as a 'default on.'
Then after the uproar from a few prominent forum regulars. It was removed and
later reintroduced as an option with the default off as a way to placate those
very opposed.

I knew there was something with default on
But I forgot the debate for turning it off, getting old, hm...
|
It's not so much that you are getting old but the debate is getting old.
Many things have been debated regularly every 6-12 months and none more than
weights. It has been a constant in my 10 years here! It is one of the issues
that makes me long for post retention of longer than 6 months, which is also
a regular suggestion.

| I want to bump this suggestion. And remind encourage new sellers to set their
autoclose settings.
Life happens.
I just waited 10 days for an invoice from a small store with under 100 fb.
I sent a couple 'hello' e-mails at day 4 and day 8 with no response.
They e-mailed this morning to say they had been gone 3 weeks. They did not say
why. But the did accumulate a couple negatives and neutrals during this time
from other buyers.
I don't understand why if the standard time frame for response to an order
in 3 days, why the store is not autoclosed if the seller does not log into BrickLink
within 4 days? Or a week or something...
Unless it has changed - Now it is nothing for 180 days and then profile/inventory
deleted. How does this make any sense?

Or they system will delete your inventory BUT not close the store after 180 days
of inactivity
http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=116
Items for Sale - If a seller has not logged into BrickLink for 180 days and has
items for sale in their store, they will be notified by e-mail to login. If they
do not login within 2 weeks from this notice then their items for sale will be
deleted.
This process seems too long before system action and the consequences too abrupt.
I suggest a more sensible approach:
Seller does not log into to BL for 30 days; then an e-mail reminder with 3
days to log on (normal order processing expectation); if no log on then store
is closed. Closure notified by e-mail.
Monthly e-mails notifying that store is closed and 180 days of inactivity your
inventory will be deleted.
If a seller has had no reason to log into BrickLink for 1 month and don't
respond to e-mail with in days. How are they going to respond to an order within
3 days?
They only have to log in for a few seconds. So it is not a big burden - basically
verifies they are still alive and have current contact information.
|
With that in mind: the default value for the voluntary store closure action could
be yes and 34 days. Then the processes would be in sync. If the seller changes
the values, then an inline notice would show the system activity schedule.
On of the items I like about Android is that instead of showing check boxes it
shows the value of your selection in the description:
"Sleep"
"After 2 minutes of activity"
or
"Auto Advance"
"Show conversation list after you archive or delete"
or
"Show newer conversations after you archive or delete"
The point being when the user opts for a shorter than default time.
Your store will autoclose in 14 days without logging in. Your inventory will
be deleted after 180 days without logging in.
Where if a seller attempts to set the autoclose further than 33 days it might
say:
Your store will autoclose in 33 days without logging in, this is the system
maximum length for an inactive seller. You inventory will be deleted in 180 days
without logging in.
In some sense it is the options - with 'help' statement or policy all
in one.

same reason as with set 10041-1
set has to have string, was in a build version of set.

I would suggest using thin string. Medium string didn't come along until
later, and it wouldn't fit through the hook anyway.
