16 years already? Ouch! The only thing still moving fast as you age, seems to
be time.

Anyway, in those years I’ve developed what could be termed: category likes. Certain
categories within the catalog I tend to buy from when bored, simply because I
enjoy or appreciate the items. I would call it collecting, but it’s not really
that. I have collections, none Lego related.

No, I spend money on these Lego, rationalizing the expenditure with “I’ll sell
it someday in our normal course of doing business here." I guess the perceived
difference for me, is that simple fact; the intention to sell at some point

Well this morning, after several cups of jo, I started pondering those categories
I’ve come to enjoy, and asked myself why? That is, why do I appreciate them,
say over others?

Are there items of particular categories within the BL catalog, you tend to
enjoy more than others? If so, what are they and why the affinity?

I’d enjoy reading your thoughts on this, and have mischievously omitted a personally
salient bit for now: my categories. I will post them, but I would kinda like
to read some of your thoughts, first

I always loved the trees. I remember when LEGO Shop at Home had

Set No: 10113 Name: Cypress Trees
*
10113-1 (Inv) Cypress Trees
5 Parts, 2001
Sets: Bulk Bricks
on sale for something like $5.99 a bag and I bought a bunch. I also stocked
up on

Part No: 3470 Name: Plant, Tree Fruit
*
3470 Plant, Tree Fruit
Parts: Plant, Tree {Green}
when they had them (at Pick a Brick IIRC). My kids' LEGO
table had these wonderful tree-lined streets, and I also had a ton more that
I thought I would gradually sell, but I never got the chance. Oh well.

Enjoy your LEGO while you have it.

if theirs a Mega Blocks equivalent to Bricklink? Specifically I'm looking
into getting replacement parts for my Dragons from Megablocks Dragon line from
the early 2000's. Plus theirs a few mini figures from that line I want to

You could browse this forum:

They have a marketplace board and you might be able to find info on where to
find what you are looking for there.

  Dear BrickLink members,

We are very pleased to announce that we are adding member Maggiec to the Community
Expert Program. She is being appointed as a BrickLink Inventories Administrator
and will be serving alongside current Inventories Admins Paulvdb and Turez.

For most of you, Maggie needs no introduction. She is a long-time member of the
site, and has served as a Catalog Administrator for 14 years. She has worked
with several well-known catalog administrators including Firefly and Therobo,
and also Dan Jezek himself.

Most people will associate Maggie with the "catalog" side of the Catalog, but
she has also been active as a contributor on the "inventories" side over the
years as well. In fact, she logged the very first inventory change requests back
in June 2004:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=4535-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

Maggie has been a stabilizing force during some very critical times for the BrickLink
site. And we are very pleased she is joining us now for this next journey, and
we feel she will be an excellent addition to our Catalog team.

Please join me in welcoming her!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I hope to be able to help Paul and Jonas
out in the wonderful work they're doing. Also, this will be a great excuse
for me to begin to rebuild my LEGO collection.

The following link is what you see when you put in the keyword "brickheadz"

You are correct that this isn't consistent. However, BrickHeadz should
not be in the set names, as the catalog doesn't normally include the theme

Someone came along in 2008 and changed the door colors to trans-bright green.
Considering that the purple/silver box edition of this set also includes trans-green
doors, I have approved your requests and then changed the trans-green to regular.

As to whether the trans-bright green doors should be in the inventory at all:
I rather strongly doubt it, but will leave them there as alternates.

Thanks for changing Trans-Green back to the regular color.

Hi Acorn,

Select Part under Add Item

and then fill out the fields using [P=BA52pb02]
as a guide (you are correct, it appears it would be the number you gave). Then
on the same page cited above there is a link to adding the image. Holler if
you run into issues. Thanks!

For my future reference, if I see something like this for another item, was this
a catalog quirk that to be resolved needs some form of manual intervention?

No, you were correct, it needed manual intervention. I copied the image from

Start by submitting a new figure to the catalog. It is likely they are two distinct
figs. If we find out with certainty that

does not exist in a tan shirt as currently described we can always merge him
to the new fig.

Of course you're right. Your observation relates to all matters, though,
and touches on the very nature of truth itself. I am of the opinion that absolute
assurance is foolhardy and the wiser position to take regarding any fact is varying
degrees of certainty.

There is a celestial body we have named the Sun which casts light onto the Earth,
for example, but I am only 99% sure of that. I do not say it is a certainty
because it could be shown wrong one day.

Yep, we could all be looking at shadows on the wall of a cave.

Comments from Submitter:
I have bought the set 6411 on Ebay and the real palm trunk seems to be 2436b (empty hole, no slots inside).
All the parts are original because many of them were still clutched together and some of them are yellowed.

Unfortunately, I decided not to approve this request. I think you're probably
right and I'd like to get the undetermined entry out of the set inventory,
but there's no point in doing so if it's based on a source that I consider
unreliable.

If you find more reliable information in the future, then please resubmit the
request.

Aha, so when I took my Poolside Paradise back to the basement, I found a sealed
Sand Dollar Café. So lifting up the flap I can see that three of the segments
are 2536b (I can't make out the others). That should be enough to show that
6411 did come with the B-type.

Thanks for checking! I updated the inventory of that set to 2536a, although
I didn't put 2536b as an alternate. If you think it would be reasonable
to include the alternate also, then let me know and I can do it.

Okay, so I went down to the basement (which I hate to do after dark even though
it's just as dark down there during midday) to take a look at a sealed one
in my shop figuring I'd find 2536b, as these sets were from a later run purchased
from KB Toy Liquidators a year or two after they were at other stores, but the
four trunk segments I can see through the window under the flap are all 2536a.
My gut feeling is that both variations appeared in Paradisa sets, and I'd
probably have them as alternates, but I can understand if you want to wait for
more definitive evidence.

Sure, Thanks again

As far as I know many Zamor spheres are actually multicolored. The mix causes
the different appearance. I think that there are at least four "shades" of all
the transparent-multicolor spheres.

There is a catalog note on these parts, but the color causes much confusion.
We might need additional catalog images for all of them, showing the variation.

198 Parts, 2006
Sets: Racers: Tiny Turbos

* Add 1 Part 50947pb028L Blue Vehicle, Mudguard 1 x 4 1/2 with 'TURBO OIL' Pattern Model Left Side (Sticker) - Set 6111 (Counterpart)
* Add 1 Part 50947pb028R Blue Vehicle, Mudguard 1 x 4 1/2 with 'TURBO OIL' Pattern Model Right Side (Sticker) - Set 6111 (Counterpart)
* Add 1 Part 6081pb022 Black Brick, Modified 2 x 4 x 1 1/3 with Curved Top with 'POLICE', Taillights and Highway Patrol 'GS-4080' License Plate Pattern (Sticker) - Set 6111 (Counterpart)

WARNING: For those of you with dyslectic tendencies, the following discussion
may make your head spin.

The 2 blue stickered parts are correct, and they are also correct for a related
set which I have added them to.

The black stickered part is a bit of an enigma. First, there are no 6111-1 instructions.
There were just the four instructions from the related sets included in one box:

Instruction No: 8662 Name: Blue Renegade
*
8662-1 Blue Renegade
Instructions: Racers: Tiny Turbos

Instruction No: 8663 Name: Fat Trax
*
8663-1 Fat Trax
Instructions: Racers: Tiny Turbos

Instruction No: 8664 Name: Road Hero
*
8664-1 Road Hero
Instructions: Racers: Tiny Turbos

Instruction No: 8665 Name: Highway Enforcer
*
8665-1 Highway Enforcer
Instructions: Racers: Tiny Turbos
Second, the 8665-1 instructions never show the back of the racer where the "tailights"
sticker is applied. Maybe there is an official box picture somewhere that shows
it, but I haven't been able to find one yet. Still, it's pretty safe
to say the sticker was applied to that piece - we don't have to be pedantic.

However, and this is where things get sticky, the stickered part in the catalog
doesn't match the ones on the sticker sheets of either set:

Part No: 6081pb022 Name: Slope, Curved 2 x 4 x 1 1/3 with 4 Recessed Studs with 'POLICE', Taillights and Highway Patrol 'GS-4080' Pattern (Sticker) - Set 8681
*
6081pb022 Slope, Curved 2 x 4 x 1 1/3 with 4 Recessed Studs with 'POLICE', Taillights and Highway Patrol 'GS-4080' Pattern (Sticker) - Set 8681
Parts: Slope, Curved, Decorated
[p=8665stk01]
[p=6111stk03]

Furthermore, there are double numbers for the sticker sheet, meaning that apparently
either version could have have come in either set.

What would really help at this point is a nice image of the GS-4080 sticker sheet,
and also a knowledge of which set it came from.

Anyone, anyone...?

Russell

Now I'm thinking it came from

Set No: 8681 Name: Tuner Garage
*
8681-1 (Inv) Tuner Garage
652 Parts, 2006
Sets: Racers: Tiny Turbos
. But there's not a large sticker
image to confirm.

We've changed the entry to indicate that, as it does appear the most likely
source when you peruse the category. Please let us know if you get further confirmation.
Thanks!

Maggie

I agree, that is the best we can do for now. I found an interesting quote in
a Brickset review of 8665-1:

This car was redone ever so slightly in the Tuner Garage set (different patrol
car # on the stickers).

The patrol car number in 8665-1 is 5472, but in the Tuner Garage it is 4275
[p=3069bpb601]
So I think it highly probable they transposed the license plate numbers as well.

Yeah, I've heard items like the license plates often have little easter eggs
like designers' initials. etc.

Brickowl has a better image of the sticker sheet for set 8681. If you zoom in
a bit you can see that it says GS-4080 on that sticker sheet.

Cool, thanks for verifying!

I apologize if I just made a giant mess this morning. I may have run past what
I "know", but it seems like there was a significant time gap between the Paradisa
sets with the old print and when new minifigures started showing up in the new
mold. I made inventory change requests only on the ones that started showing
up in 2005, which was 8 years after the mold change according to information
shown below. I saw these replies now as I was pondering if there was some way
to let hundreds of people know that their inventory may contain a newly created
part.

It's not your fault, Jon, I should have thought more before approving this
torso in particular. And no, unfortunately the system was set up to make it
very difficult to send a mass notification to sellers listing the items because
of the worry about spamming people.

Minifig No: col271 Name: Collectible Minifigure

col271 Collectible Minifigure
Minifigures: Collectible Minifigures
Marked for Deletion

* Delete 1 Part 973px126c01 White Torso Paradisa Windsurf Board with Sunset Pattern / Yellow Arms / Yellow Hands
* Add 1 Part 973px126newc01 White Torso Paradisa Windsurf Board with Sunset Pattern, Inside with Ribs (Reissue) / Yellow Arms / Yellow Hands

May I ask what the difference is on this 'Inside with ribs' torsos compared
to the same torsos that are 10 years old?

The original torsos first appeared in 1994, so those are ~23 years old. The torsos
back then had short ribs inside the torso (like a jumper with bottom stud holder)
instead of the long ribs that appeared around 1998 and continue into today. Therefore,
there would be no difference between a modern torso and one 10 years ago, but
there would be a difference between a modern torso and the original version of
this torso. I believe this helps to set up a nice precedent to get more modern
torsos with classic prints into the catalog, so that vintage minifigs and modern
minifigs both have the proper torso mold for the time period they were released.

Cheers,
Randy

The large X-rib on that particular torso has been around for at least 8 years...
So what is the intention? Change the inventories of all the minfigs attached
to it
That would cause quite a lot of problems with listed ones, which means new minifigs
would need to be created, old ones marked for deletion, and the same would need
to be done with the torsos themselves...
And then some of you wanna do the same for hundreds of minifigs

I think it would be a really bad precedent, as it's gonna clutter up to catalog
if done 'the right way'. And any other way is gonna mess up peoples listings.
Count to that the many figs that might have been made with both torsos (transitions
periods) and it's gonna be hell to manage it, not to mention it's gonna
mess peoples collections who have figs sorted 'by number', when suddently
they are going to be renumbered or marked for deletion, and +20% of minifigs
will need to be added in catalog...

The catalog should not handle such (and that was Dan's desire as he made
the initial rules about minifigs), people can handle that for themselves if they
want to.
This is a marketplace in the first place, not a 'collectors database'
place, there are other sites for that...

Actually Eric, with the Paradisa fig you're right. We originally added the
different torsos because it would be wrong (in the eyes of sticklers for accuracy,
anyway) to have a fig reproduction torso in an original Blacktron set, say.
They are easily distinguished because of the print/lack of print on the neck.
But the range of years over which

Part No: 973px126c01 Name: Torso Paradisa Sailboat with Sunset Pattern / Yellow Arms / Yellow Hands
*
973px126c01 (Inv) Torso Paradisa Sailboat with Sunset Pattern / Yellow Arms / Yellow Hands
Parts: Minifigure, Torso Assembly, Decor.
definitely raises issues because some of the newer figs have the neck print as
well as the new style ribs so there are more than two distinct variations. We

But the range of years over which

definitely raises issues because some of the newer figs have the neck print as
well as the new style ribs so there are more than two distinct variations. We
may have to rethink this one.

How about an this for an option: "Just taking some time off".

or simply "Other".

The 26 Red Plate 2x4 are Regular parts needed to secure the field together in the main model. They are used in step 7 of the Instructions. They should not be listed as Extra.

Looks like there is a note at the bottom of the inventory related to this.

there is the arbitrary subjective element of defining what is an "absurd" price.

There are better ways to handle this so-called "problem" that don't involve
legal risks or arbitrariness:

I agree. I also would vote no but this shouldn't even be a suggestion. IANAL
but I can't imagine it would be legal to dictate the prices at which sellers
can list their items, no matter how outrageous.

Hmm, you would think, wouldn't you? I just had a look at the instructions,
and they only show the sticker being applied to one side. So to me it
is ambiguous, as it could be considered implicit that it is one both sides because
of the existence of the other sticker and the fact that the back of the assembly
is visible on the built stable. If we don't get more concrete evidence one
way or another, we could add a note to the entry for sellers to indicate whether
they have the sticker on one or both sides.

Hi

Spoken about both sides, this one has a 'police' sticker on the outside

but my request months/years ago was not accept

also viewable on box but not on instructions steps, stickersheet has 4 'police'
stickers

Stefaan

I suspect you are right Stefaan, we've added a similar note to the entry
as well as your image as an additional image. Hopefully having the additional
image with the police sticker on the other side won't be too confusing to
people (at least not if they read the additional notes! ). Thanks!

Obviously incomplete, but it's not the only sheet like that in catalog.

And, it could also be 'altered' quite easely

The pictures were replaced with a proper (unaltered!) one, but may not show up

It should show up in the entry though.

Hi Maggie,
Thanks for pointing towards it.
I cleared my browser history, logged off and in again, now it shows properly
for me (nice image btw), if others have the same error they might need to do
the same thing.

so problem solved on the image

While where at it
I have an unlisted
[p=BA06pb02]
However mine comes with stickers both sides (as there are 2 stickers on the sheet)

However the entry for the assembly does not say 'both sides' (stickers).
Another seller is also selling with stickers both sides.
Is it plausible this assembly should have stickers both sides.

How do I know they have received and read the invoice? Normally after sending
an invoice, most buyers pay within a very reasonable amount of time, but some
don't. How often do I need to message, email reminders? If I could see
that they have received and read it, then no need to send reminders.

You wouldn't know if they read email only and ignore the message warning

Courtesy would require to send at least a reminder before you start NPB.

Yes, all you need to do is send another copy and say you are sending it as a
courtesy in case the original invoice was blocked by their spam filter (I usually
do this by forwarding my copy of the invoice directly to their email address).
It's possible that this is what happened, and either way, it's a nice
non-accusatory way to send a reminder.

etc. Is there a way that the option could be enabled to let us have more stockroom
options such as add, delete amd rename? That is what I want for Christmas .

Brian @ Capital City Bricks

I'm always curious about this multiple stockrooms thing, what exactly is
its purpose? I mean, something is either on offer or it is not, that's a
binary thing, and remarks already allow you to assign any manner of tags. So
why multiple stockrooms? (We already have 3 so apparently it's useful but
it just escapes me )

Sold Out= Stockroom A
New items from Imports= Stockroom A

I use Stockroom B to store sold out Items (so I actually move them to B), that
way my Stockroom A stays clean with things I need to check, those can either
be 'to sell', To keep', 'to merge', etc, I know all newly
listed stuff is autocmaticly there, so I can concentrate on my Stockroom A. Stockroom
B also contains things I need to fllow up in future, like minifig parts, Stickers
I wanna activate in future, stufff like that. My stockroom C is mainly containing
my personal collection, but I would like to have that splitted, Minifigs, Sets,
etc... And would certainly wanna be able to split Stockroom B, and would like
to have a setting to move 'sold out' items automaticly to a stockroom
of choice (Z) for example...

So YES to more stockrooms (doesn't matter if then can be named or not, allthough
it would be handy...)

Is there a way to automatically put sold out items to Stockroom?

Yes, opt to Retain the item when you list it and it will automatically be stockroomed
when you sell out.

I've noticed that. How should these sets be accurately cataloged? Additional
notes? Inventory changes? Leave them alone?

I ask in all seriousness because I don't want to waste my time or the time
of catalog and inventory admins.

Well, for one thing we could remove the number of bricks from the description.
I wonder if we should remove the color too (even though it appears that for
most of the set's life there were indeed 50 red bricks).

2002 Education catalog shows 50 parts for exact same set number. This set does not appear in later catalogs (checked in 2003, 2008, and 2009 catalogs). Either part count changed, catalog I have is wrong, or Admin made an error. I would upload a photo to document, but I have been banned from adding images today because I hit the 50-image limit. I'll submit a catalog change request for the set title.

I've found the set showing 50 red bricks in 2000, 2001, 2002. But look on

My 2004 - 2008 catalogs show the black bricks in a different set numbered 970632
with 60 bricks at first but then with 50 bricks from 2005 on. The LEGO Ed /

I wonder why that's even in the catalog. Per the Help page on catalog entries:

Large part assemblies. - Large assemblies of parts that can be built into figures, vehicles, or other structures often comprise a substantial portion of a set and should not be added to the catalog.

For that particular set Muck is almost a third of the parts in the set.

True. I think these predate that rule and are grandfathered. I have also asked
that "Late Version" be added to that Muck's name.

The faces were different in the 2001 versions for 3 of the 4 Bob vehicles, as
well. One day, I may get around to adding those to the catalog, assuming I have
any left. They are moving pretty well for me this year.

We can't just change the description when there are sellers with those parts
who may end up having the wrong thing listed. Right now, the catalog does not
distinguish them. If you were to submit submit the different Muck assembly and
the different patterned bulldozer front, we could consider it, but we also need
to weigh whether it is worth it to make these changes when people have been buying
and selling these with the entries as is for almost 15 years without problems.

There was an unwritten exception for this?

Sets: Collectible Minifigures: Series 7 Minifigures
...and there are 4 more, all small sets. But then we have hundreds of them changed
over to sprues by Admin Dan on Feb 24, 2007.

I'm not 100% for following Dan's example in every situation (everybody
ends up out on a limb at one point or another), but in this case it became a
well-established policy and it points in the same general direction that inventory
policy is already headed, i.e. to represent the original (new) condition of sets
more closely.

I don't remember anything being said in 2012 about an unwritten exception.
Obviously the state of the 6 small inventories was intentional, so we can't
claim this was just an oversight. But I don't see a reason for the exception.
Can anybody explain why these sets are different than all the rest?

Russell

The 'on sprue' was usefull because of part out's of new sets, if
3 where regular and 1 was extra, it would cause a mess for sellers on partouts,
for used sets it was less an issue if one flower was missing (even if it was
regular), as most buyers would most likely not make an issue out of it.
For the CMF's (and possibly other small sets) it's a bit more of a problem,
as there are high detailed pictures showing 3 flowers, the chances for partouts
where/are smaller, as either the baggie would be sold 'complete', either
the fig would be sold as a complete fig, leaving almost no other parts in most
cases (except some small accessoires) and easier to have control (compared to
large sets) on a partout. I don't remember the exact reason why the smaller
sets had inventories like that, but it was an unwritten and deliberate 'exception'
on the CMF's in the first place, it was discussed back then when other people
tried to file inventory changes, I'm not sure it was the right course of
action, as indeed it removed the consistancy on these flowers, BUT the reasoning
was at the same time as the reasoning for the 'knives' on sprue, as in
most cases only one was used and the second was extra...
A bit complicated, and an eternal issue when selling 'new' compared
to selling 'used', but the priority was given to 'used' (in the
long run) with the intend to not force sellers of 'used' sets to have
to add 'spares' that are not part of the actual build and therefor are
not required to consider a set 'complete' (reason why extra knives and
brickseperators got moved to 'extra', and why on small CMF sets the 1
flower was put as an extra).

We have decided in this case to restore the original policy and only allow the
sprue to be listed. This does create a slight problem with what some perceive
to be "extras", but we are planning to tweak the listing rules to accommodate
this as well as other parts with sprues, such as knives and 1 x 1 round plates.

Please note that we would rather not make changes to other items with sprues
until the adjustments in writing have been finalized. We will notify everyone
at that point and publish a list of parts that will need to be changed. Thanks
for your patience.

Russell

I am *so* glad you have decided to do this. Who wants to buy a set as New and
Complete when one of the flowers is missing? (Or one of the keys in an original
New HP set, as I recall the discussion long ago before the definition somehow
morphed.)

Comments from Submitter:
Shown in instructions wearing the bag - it should be included in the minifig inventory.

Sometimes I wonder why official instructions are mentioned at all in the Help
sections for minifigs. They are not adhered to, and it's frustrating to see
exception after exception being made for what seem to be personal preferences.

One of the big tasks I see in the future of the catalog is to come up with policies
that are simple and easy for people to grasp, where someone doesn't post
a request like this with confidence that they are right according to the rules,
and then end up with a rejection.

Russell

Sometimes also minifgs (there are some examples in SW) are shown diffrent on
the box and in instruction (cape vs. hair for example). So in few cases instruction
policy was helpful do determine what configuration of minifig add.

There is also the complications that if the figure comes in two sets, one with
bag and one without, is it really worth the extra catalogue item for a bag? Strictly
yes, but in reality?

We've added a few words to the guidelines in the Help topic to clarify why
the messenger bag is not included. But yes, as you say, we need to consider
reality. It is why they are called Guidelines for adding items to the
Catalog.

If there are any more of your inventories that you know were done with sealed

Thanks Russell! I just happened to look at that because someone was looking for
the instructions:

Wouldn't you know it the instructions that came with mine *do* have the mountains,
but then I was looking at the set and thought that since it had only been opened

for it. Oh well.

I get the set 3747-1 Locomotive Gray Bricks. This is maddening when I see a
part number under a piece and type it in only to discover that there's an
a or b.

You can if you search 3747*.

But you're right, this is quite obscure and it would be helpful if you could
find them without having to know that little trick.

The only issue I can see is that the practice now is to append an "s" to the
figure to indicate the stickered version and use the root item number to indicate
the non-stickered version. That means the existing figures would need to have
their item numbers changed to include the "s" suffix. I don't know if it's
possible to do that and update all the current listings and inventories at the
same time.

Whenever an item number is changed all other instances where the item is listed
will be updated automatically.

I suppose a guy can try. I'll take some photos tomorrow and give it a shot.

Keep in mind that whenever something is submitted which tries to correct a slightly
incorrect catalog situation - which has worked for many, many years without problems
- and which would need a lot of work, it may take several months to be approved
or finally get's rejected for additional reasons which may come up during
this time. There's absolutely no priority to change the issue in 375 and
any submissions would stay at the end of the approval list for a very long time.
Also, a cluttered list of items to be approved always slows down the approval
of regular items.

Can you define "slightly incorrect?" Something is either correct or incorrect,
isn't it?

Why would changing an item number require "a lot of work?" There would be 8 minifig
item numbers of 7 characters each in the Yellow Castle. That comes to a total
of 56 characters that would need to be entered in the database. That's about
one-tenth the number of the characters you just typed to suggest it would be
too much work to fix.

Also, can you explain why fixing a long-standing error has lower priority than
fixing a newer one? I don't see any obvious reason why this should be the
case. If it is simply a matter of your own preference, then please explain.

I have requested that the Yellow Castle Knights have their item numbers changed
to indicate they are stickered versions. Today I took photographs of these figures
with blank vests and am prepared to submit the unstickered versions under the
old item numbers once the current ones have been changed.

Please approve the requests. They are consistent with several other minifigs
that have had their item numbers changed or entered according to the standard.
If you are flat out telling the Bricklink community you don't care about
having an accurate or consistent catalog and have no intention of ever approving
the requests, as you are hinting, then please just let us know outright. And
please give the reason why.

I'm not going to approve the number changes and here's why. There are
something like 200 of these minifigs currently listed. If the numbers are changed
to include "s", I assume you will next want to submit minfigs without the stickers
and call them the same number that these figs previously had. But this is something
we want to avoid, not only because it will cause both the stickered and unstickered
figs to have a history of the same number, but because it will cause confusion
for a fair number of the sellers listing these figures who may not regularly
read the forum.

The numbering is a legacy of early BL before the current system evolved. We
appreciate your desire for consistency, but I agree with Ronald that making changes
will open an unnecessary can of worms and these are better left alone.

Source: Instructions and set images. 3840pb04 is included in minifig inventories for two of the figures in this set, but is not currently listed as a counterpart. Set images show 14 vests with stickers, but 3840 is not listed as a regular part

No, no, no. Please.

The 14 parts 3840 do NOT belong to the set inventory as stand-alone parts since
they are minifig inventory items - in severla stickered versions (3840pb..).
Counterparts only belong to the inventory if they are stickered versions of unstickered
items in the inventory - or, in this case, with different stickers like
those in the regular inventory (which includes the minifig inventories). See:

Jan

Why are some of the stickered vests listed as counterparts and not others?

Is it because of the variation in the background color?

Yes.

The CAs read this and started adding the word "polybag" to polybag descriptions.
Randyf noticed and submitted many more change requests, which is why you are
able to find many polybags this way (thanks Randy!). However tags would still
be a nice feature, as it isn't always practical to put every likely descriptor
in the catalog name.

Hi Russel, I don't know why it occurs, but its been reported and we will
look into it behind the scenes.

Thanks!

While you're at it:

There is also a Bug with this plume:

Part No: 4502c Name: Minifigure, Plume Feather Large
*
4502c Minifigure, Plume Feather Large
Parts: Minifigure, Headgear Accessory

According to the overview it only comes in 12 minifigs.
By clicking on 'black', even none show
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=4502c&colorID=11&in=A

yet they are correctly attached to the figs of 2 of those sets

Minifig No: cas177 Name: Breastplate - Black, Black Legs, Black Grille Helmet, Black Plume
*
cas177 (Inv) Breastplate - Black, Black Legs, Black Grille Helmet, Black Plume
Minifigures: Castle: Black Falcons

Minifig No: cas183 Name: Breastplate - Blue with Black Arms, Black Legs with Red Hips, Dark Gray Grille Helmet, Black Plume, Black Plastic Cape
*
cas183 (Inv) Breastplate - Blue with Black Arms, Black Legs with Red Hips, Dark Gray Grille Helmet, Black Plume, Black Plastic Cape
Minifigures: Castle: Black Falcons
so they should show up in the link above.

Eric, the figs are wearing the triple plume

Part No: 4502b Name: Minifigure, Plume Feather Triple
*
4502b Minifigure, Plume Feather Triple
Parts: Minifigure, Headgear Accessory
They show up on the list for that item:

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=4502b&in=M

Maggie

Same thing is happening with Blue plumes and maybe with some White and Red ones
(didn't check them).
It isn't the first time odd things like that has happend, I've seen it
before with a minifig head, some of the figs holding the head did not have an
'inv' showing, but when looking at the head and where it came in, the
figs did turn up. The only option was to add an item, delete full inventory and
start over.
it was the head in these figs:
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=boat012
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=air048
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=twn135
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=cty189

In regards to the plumes, I dunno since when this is, I don't offtenly browse
Castle figs, so this problem might have been around quite some time, dunno if
others ever noticed.

Something similar already exists if you want to see it. Just sort by newest
item using the feature near the top of the page. I would be against displaying
days listed by default because I retain most of my lots, so I may have recently
replenished lots I have had for years.

These slopes were intentionally marked as Extras in this set. There were 200
regular elements and the rest were extras. They were even bagged separately
by TLG. The explanation is in the catalog additional notes for the set.

BTW I have just checked and can verify that the Sand Green slopes are indeed

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 9840 Name: Blue Storage Bin, X-Large (16.5in x 12in x 10in)
*
9840-1 (Inv) Blue Storage Bin, X-Large (16.5in x 12in x 10in)
2 Gear, 2006
Sets: Educational & Dacta: Supplemental

* Change {6 to 1} Gear Blue 54189 Dacta Storage Bin Large (new style)
* Change {6 to 1} Gear Trans-Clear 54190 Dacta Storage Bin Lid (fits new style storage bins)

Comments from Submitter:
For at least the first three years of its production, this set included a single bin with lid. Current listers may be in a bind if their sets are sold to buyers expecting a set of six.

This is correct, the second issue of the set has 2 more then the original issue,
2 on page 49 to be exact which did not appear in the same step of the first issue.

Are you talking about page 49 of book 2?

Yes. Discussed over and over over the years. We really, really, really need
to keep forum posts and not purge them after six months. The sooner this happens
the better. And this could have been a reply to several other posts today.

It has also been mentioned in the past that suggestions were not autopurged like
most other forum posts, but that Dan would go through them at six months to review
them for merit and manually purge the ones that didn't appear would hold
up at that time. This is the reason that there have been all these suggestions
that haven't been acted on beginning in September, 2010.

First of all, this is brilliant site and a great resource.

I'm looking to get my hands on as much of the sport theme (hopefully all if possible)
after rekindling my passion for LEGO from my childhood.

However, despite finding the catalogue and setting up my result list, I noticed
it would be useful if there was a function where I can filter out sellers that
ship to me (in the UK). As it is, as far as I can see, I can only either filter
out sellers based in UK (of which there don't seem to be too many selling sports
stuff) or I have to click through each individual seller and see if they do ship
to me.

Just a suggestion Keep up the good work!

You may also find this page (accessible by clicking on the green search tab between
the Sell tab and the Members tab above) useful:

as well as the Store Filter page that you can get to from there:

I am one of the ones who said I didn't mind if my images or data were used on
Brickset. In fact, I have already donated some images to Brickset in the spirit
of the Lego community. To me, as long as they are of value to enthusiasts somewhere,
I am glad to be of help.

The tough answer to this problem is to do what you did with the minifig images.
If set inventories are a desirable asset to Brickset, start building your own.
With Peeron now out of the picture,

I'm sorry. What did I miss? Why is Peeron out of the picture?

On a recent Brickset thread, it was stated that Peeron hasn't added an inventory
since March. And from my own experience trying to communicate with whomever is
at the helm over there, I have come to the conclusion that the site is basically
on life support.

Wish it weren't true. Somebody please tell me I'm wrong.

I don't think so, it looks like the last update was in April. If anyone
could tell you for sure it would be either member Clark or LPBricks.

Perhaps my high school history teacher was right, ultimately successful endeavors

  One thing that concerns me:

On fleabay, I see many sellers saying that they've used a peeron or BrickSet
inventory to inventory sets that they're selling.

If BL's inventories are going to be used by BrickSet, can there be something
in someones' Terms of Service about using BL inventories to resell on sites other
than BrickLink (or at least not on ebay)?

Probably... but would either site have the means to enforce their ToS?

Why should usage for selling specifically on ebay be prohibited? That seems
as arbitrary as banning usage by anyone not running iOS or anyone located in
Texas. (Meaning that it is a personal preference but not anything of conclusive
merit.)

Given the history of eBay's treatment of BrickLink (formerly BrickBay), Admin
Dan didn't want to do anything that would help further eBay's sales. As I recall,
when this was raised the last time, a large part of the objection was due to
the placement of eBay ads in prominent places where there would be inventories
from BL. Coming so soon after Dan's leaving us, some of us felt it would have
been like a slap in the face.

Maggie

Personally, when I upload catalog info to BL (whether it is for an inventory
or an item's picture/weight/dimensions), my hopes were that it would used to
either supplement BrickLink's catalog or for the good of LEGO fans -- not so
they could be used for ebay sellers to sell LEGO there.

Those statements aren't mutually exclusive. Isn't it for the good of LEGO fans
that, when they buy a used set (on any venue), they get a complete set?

Bret

This one I would say is a Set first and Gear second, particularly since it hails
from the era before TLG was producing Gear items right and left.

Maggie

Maybe the current types of games should be revisited as to their type. When Dan
was building this site, games were only the traditional board type games with
a few pieces in them. They could be left in gear.

Bret

Hmm, my inclination is to leave the games where they are. They *are* different
than sets (even on the shelves of stores such as Target they are found on different
aisles).

Now it might be possible to create box entries for them in a similar fashion
that instructions entries have been created for certain Gear items, but it would
probably take a back seat to other issues in site development.

Okay that makes sense. Perhaps the Games should be listed under sets then? They
seem more sets than gear anyway, considering they are their own product line,
they contain regular Lego parts, and must be built with instructions. Just a

I've wondered the same thing about game boxes: http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=582821
Although I think there was a reasoning why it can't.

From what I can recall, the auction system discontinued due to a huge added administrative
burden. It was popular and had a lot of potential. Eric should consider hiring
a small team to restore, develop, and maintain the system. If necessary, there
could be higher fees, or tiered fees, in the auction format to make the concept
worthwhile. I think the BrickLink community was fairly unanimous it its disappointment
over losing the feature, so putting it to a vote won't prove much, just reiterate
what is already known.

I miss the auctions too ... although I do recall the reason for their being discountinued
as lacking support and following Flea-bay's lead in going to fixed price listings
... can't remember if it was Dan stating his rationale or not ... as a man of
mystery he didn't often say why he did things the way he did

True, a major part of the reason he discontinued it was its *lack* of
popularity. The relatively little use the feature got didn't justify the resources
allocated to it.

I agree we have over 1 million parts in used inventory that we have been sitting
on for this very reason. I thought it was against the terms and conditions though?

It is because right now the only way to have a second store is to open a second
account. Duplicate accounts are forbidden by the BL ToS. The glaring loophole,
however, is that a member can have use the name of their spouse, sibling or friend
to open a new account and then manage that account just as if it were his own.
the second account is in name only, and I don't feel comfortable with that. I
think it will invite fictional users and much abuse. If your spouse is truly
running the store, OK. But if you are just using their name, I would say no.

Still, a second store under well-defined limited circustances might be a good
idea for some. Before jumping into this, however, we should clarify what those
limited circumstances might be and what additional rules, if any, should apply
to those second and third stores.

Thor

I agree.

Sounds like everyone is on the same page for once.

Not quite everyone. I like to know that if I am in someone's shop, this is it,
and I don't have to wonder whether there's something else in another shop of
theirs that I also want at the same time. I also don't like the possibility
that one seller might have more than one shop on the spotlighted / featured store
page. And plenty of people do fine selling both new and used items. What if
someone decides they want a shop strictly for gear, one for sets, one for new
parts, another for used parts... you get the picture. Why complicate things
for users (especially newer ones) as well as use up more of BL's resources unnecessarily?

I think it works fine the way it is.

edit to the inventory of that set, can the seller be notified? That way if a
buyer purchases the set, he would not be missing a piece, etc if something was
changed after the set was listed.

Thanks,
Andy

... It would be great if this feature were implemented. Any one who knows status?

Have you voted "yes"?

I voted yes too. And not just for sets. Yesterday and today one of the catmins
posted how they were thinking to change the inventories of the S4C ice skater
and hockey player minifigures to include the skates. I listed these minifigures
without the skates as the catalog now says. The skates were listed separately
(and most have already sold). It would cause problems for me and other sellers
and buyers if the inventories of these minifigures were changed to include the
skates and we weren't notified about it.

I don't think that's how that change would work, with the minifigs. I believe
that the existing listings would stand, and a new minifig listing would be created,
with the skates. The skate-less version would be marked for deletion, but any
existing listings would persist.

Marc is right, if we make a definitional change to a catalog item, we generally
either have to mark the current entry for deletion and create a fresh entry,
or, if there are only a small number of listings, we notify each seller individually
via the BL messaging system that we are changing the item.

Regarding the original suggestion, in the past Admin has always been against
anything that may be perceived as spamming, I suspect partly philosophically,
but also because the volume of BL emails going out in the past caused some internet
providers to label emails from BL as spam. This is why, where catalog changes
are involved, we suggest you check the change log periodically. In the same
vein, it might not be a bad idea to check the inventory change log from time
to time.

Maggie

In any case, the original suggestion is a good one. I have sold a set that was
affected by precisely this problem. I bought the set used off ebay, checked the
parts against the inventory, bought the missing parts here on BrickLink, and
listed the set as Used|Complete. A couple of months later, the set sold, I did
a doublecheck of the inventory before packing it, and I was missing parts. This
was not a feeling I want to have again.

In regards to the set vs minifig listings how about the admin produce a statement
that every member of BL must read & affirm to before being able to place their
next order. I won't presume to know the perfect way to accomplish this, but here
is my idea. The statement would basically be an explanation that as a buyer they
are responsible for buying what they want. It would point out that currently
the collectible minifigs can be sold with and without accessories and that the
buyers should use caution to correctly identify which they want and which they
buy & not assume that all collectible minifigs include the accessories. To take
things further Admin should make it policy to remove not-positive feedback that
indicate the statement was not adhered to.

A simpler idea would be to change the names of the figure entries from "Artist"
to "Artist (Figure Only)"

Brian R.

Actually, that is not a simple solution. We would have to add it to every collectible
minifig to be consistent, and then we would invariably have the problem that
some people would assume that other minifigs, which wouldn't say "fig only",
would by implication come with more than just the fig.

which has been mentioned before in the forum but not the same idea.

Can we PLEASE put a yes or no radio button in STORE TERMS page that says if seller
has smokey bricks in their store.

I have extreme allergies and Asthma this is a medical need and I'm not the only
one here. Also the majority of people here don't like smoke smelling bricks
anyway.

reason 2. It's not fair to offer an item with smoke and not mention it as they
are worth less than the same item without smoke. Especially when it is very
strong as in this case. Limited buyers are willing to even Accept smokey items.

The seller I got this last batch from has NOTHING in splash page or Terms and
no comments prior in feedback so no way to know. For the smoke to be this strong
of a smell I have no doubt he's had problems in the past as I knew a seller who
did that who kept getting paypal reversals and requests to return here on bricklink
even though that person ALSO never had bad feedback but had trouble every couple
of orders and just worked it out. Not fair to his customers to have to go through
that.

Having a simple radio buttion "Yes I do sometimes offer smokey bricks" or
"NO, I never sell Smokey Bricks." Is a simple solution and one that will help
alot of people and alot of unpleasant orders. You will still see the money since
we will just buy from someone else here on Bricklink and be happy with the order.

Thank you for taking the time to consider,
Junkpile

The problem with suggestions such as these is that by having a radio button for
smoky bricks, the implication could be that BL would or should get involved in
enforcing this, when it's actually similar to what Foster said about people fudging
PayPal payment methods-- it isn't the place of BL to be policing this.

Not to mention what Marc said about possible problems associated with accurately
determining what is smoky.

Some members who think they are wise and all knowing because of their high feedback
(I can only assume that in my head) can throw their weight and opinions around.
This tends to get the mob going in the forum and than it becomes my I.Q. is bigger
then yours so I am right and you are wrong. Like Troy said it does become a big
poop storm! And that is sad when someone is trying to ask a question or post
a concern in the forum and then it gets twisted and turned into a worthless post.
Do not get me wrong and times I love to sit back and read the drama but the last
several days have been great being able to read real problems and real answers
to problems posted in the forum.

That's certainly one way to interpret what is happening in those threads. I don't
see it that way myself.

Part of the reason that I might interpret it differently is that I am one of
those very-high-volume posters, who often participates in the poop-storm threads.
And yet, I have very low feedback (comparatively speaking), so I don't see that
it has much to do with the feedback rating.

(I think that better forum software could actually help solve the underlying
problem, but that's a story for another day!)

It is funny people in chat say they hate to post in the forum because how people
respond to postings. It is like a mean girl mentality at times. We all are geeks,
nerds, and dorks for loving Lego. Maybe we should think about how it was when
we were in school, no one liked being picked on or bullied. Well guess we are
now adults and should act like adults. That is my .15 cents and I am sure someone
will pick my posting apart!

I think that last sentence says a lot about how and why poop-storms erupt. (I
don't mean this in a disrespectful way, nor do I mean to imply that you, or your
comments, are the cause of poopstorms (yes, I'm enjoying saying that!) -- I will
get back to what I mean in a moment.)

As an interesting side-note, the difference between the forum and the chat room
fascinates me. I am much more of a "forum" person. My real job actually revolves
around a chat platform, so I am very comfortable in that environment, but despite
that, it still feels awkward to me in a way, because chats don't easily allow
me to be myself. To me, chat is too shallow. It's too rapid-fire. It's like the
little cut-out blurbs that you see highlighted in magazine articles. Forums are
more like the articles.

Back in the late 90's, most of my internet time was spent on Usenet. (My ideal
forum interface would be an exact copy of Agent.) None of my time was spent on
IRC.

Now back to what I was saying before: reaction to "I am sure someone will pick
my posting apart!" I assume that the subtext is that this act of picking something
apart is negative. I am picker-aparter. But to me, picking something apart is
not a negative thing. It's a wonderfully positive thing. Not just for the picker-aparter,
but also for the person whose ideas are being picked.

I love it when someone picks apart my arguments. (I've noticed also that I seem
to use that word, "argument", differently than most people here.) I love ideas.
I love trying to understand them. And I love it when someone demonstrates that
I am wrong about something.

The worst thing for me, in a forum, is when I post a long, detailed post about
something, and get no reaction at all. The second worst is when the only reaction
is "I agree." I don't particularly want people to agree with me about things,
because I can't really learn anything from people who agree with me.

I agree!

I've had some relatively long arguments with several people in this forum. I
believe that I've stayed mostly civil through the vast majority of them (a few
posts come to mind as exceptions, but I try!). But I enjoyed those disagreements.
And not in a poop-storms-are-fun way, either. I enjoyed the disagreements because
they forced me to think about my ideas more clearly. To consider how to explain
my position better. To take into account things that I would never have considered
had they not been brought up by someone whose brain clearly works differently
than mine. I enjoyed all the disagreements because they made me think. And I
like to think.

Personally, if I was running the forum, there would be a lot less moderation.
But that's just a personal preference. I don't run the forum, nor do I want to.
I'm more than willing to defer to the wishes of the site owners and admins.

I'm not sure that I understand the suggestion.

When I go to the Catalog tab, the first drop-down entry box has eight choices
not six (and Instructions is included).

If I want to list instructions for sale, I go do the Sell tab, and again I see
Instructions listed among the 9 category types for the item I want to sell.

--
Marc.

I meant to say that there is no 'browsing' section for the instructions like
the other items, because I use this page quite alot rather than the 'sell' tab.

When I'm listing parts, I use the browse section to take me to the parts, in
which I then input the part number and it will take me to the part(s), or, if
I know what the part is, I just click upon the correct category.
This is the kind of thing I'd like to see for the instructions...
After all, to me the 'sell' tab isn't as quite informative at the 'browse' section
as there are times when I find a piece/part and I am not sure as to where it
goes and the browse section helps...
Do you understand me now?

Paul

The first drop-down box on the catalog page that Marc is referring to will do
the same thing for instructions. You can leave the area where you would type
in the keyword or number blank and it will bring up everything. And you can
choose the category to narrow down to the same way you can with the 'Browse'
section.

When someone volunteers information, or does work to help this site, do those
who profit from the site offer any compensation, such as some credit toward fees,
maybe let you do transactions without fees for some small period of time, or
at a reduced percent?
What about people who take their time to photograph parts, or inventory sets?

I am just curious.
I am not trying to say people should not volunteer their effort.
But when you do volunteer your effort, just keep in mind this site is a for profit
business just like eBay and PayPal; not a service offered for free by people
volunteering their time.
Of course in many cases, what benefits BrickLink benefits those who use the site
as well.

Some of us who volunteer remember when Dan started the site. (Actually even when
he discussed it before he actually implemented it.) There are some of us who
helped him beta test it, and some of us who watched to see if it would pan out
before jumping in. Either way, we were rooting for him and wanted to see him
succeed. So of course we would volunteer to help him out, as fellow AFOLs and
as friends. The fact that profit was never his overriding motivator made it
easy for us to contibute our time and efforts. And now that he is gone we want
to see his legacy live on.

Even those who never knew Dan like to contribute because contributors' usernames
go on the credits. And sellers may volunteer pictures, inventories, etc., because
it helps to sell items. No one has ever been coerced into contributing.

All with the BIG WARNING -- this is a non-monitored section -- BL assumes no
responsibility for its accuracy. Use at your own risk.

Isn't this non responsibility true for other information on the site, such as
the Catalog?

Yes, it is spelled out in the TOS. But it's one of the best LEGO references
on the web because of the dedicated contributors.

GOOD SELLERS MAKE HAPPY BL CUSTOMERS ... GOOD FOR EVERYONE.

Yes, including the site owners.

Why shouldn't it be though? They have every reason to be proud of what Dan created
and I wouldn't begrudge them the benefits of his creation at all.

Yep, I'm aware of this, but that wasn't the question.

It may be because in the olden days when your computer came preloaded with all
kinds of free trial software, it often came with Photoshop Elements so that's
what everyone used, and "photoshop" became a verb.

The dummiest imaging software is capable to resize images, MS Paint for example,
comes for free with each Win version. Or MS Photoeditor, comes (came) with Word/Office.
Resizing and cropping images doesn't need rocket science software.
Simple software is mostly better for simple tasks and much faster.
