| They aren't required to offer exemptions, most businesses do because it benefits
everyone.
Bricklink promised a solution in the 2nd quarter for 2021, that didn't happen.
Last week a panel was held to understand "the need for exemptions".
My take away from the meeting was:
1. They are aware it's an issue
2. Bricklink team wasn't on the same page as LEGO tax compliance on how hard
being compliant on exemptions is: they thought that they had to police individual
transactions even after verifying certificates- they don't.
3. Bricklink's backend software is archaic and makes everything "hard"
4. I'm still not convinced they understand the urgency or have made it a
priority to find a quick solution.
I'm not sure why they can't do this:
-Start with MTC certificates
-verify the certificates
-Allow verified buyers the ability to use a version of the vat exemption system
at checkout: Enter a pin or tax ID that disables tax.
I would urge everyone to contact CE_Tanja and let them know her know you want
exemptions.

| There are delays coming out of Europe right now. I would recommend starting by
politely asking the seller for an update.

| Tanya,
Thank you for your reply. I think the concern is the community was told this
issue was decided at a meeting and now it appears that bricklink is starting
over on a decision that was already made over a year ago:

Yes. We have determined this is a definite need for our customer base and we
are moving forward with it. The first step is to meet with our third-party service
who calculates the tax for us. Then we will need to set up a method of receiving
and retaining the exemption documents.

| Tanya,
Will there be a future session regarding business to business sales and tax exemption
in the USA?
Kind Regards,
Andrew

| | As a representative of a store that spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on
LEGO every year I can only support Erik’s point and tell you that we have shifted
a lot of our spending away from Bricklink because of its non-accommodation of
our tax exemption certificate.
~7% extra for tax we should be exempt from may seem like a small percentage but
it adds up to tens of thousands of dollars a year for us, it also compounds when
we shop overseas as we have to pay a steep currency conversion fee to PayPal
for that extra 7%.
Shifting money away from Bricklink sellers is a heart breaking decision for us
as we like to support small family businesses which would help support many afol
families and the Bricklink community.
Please help us get this done.
Best wishes.

|
| Let me start by saying this is rare event triggered by a large order.
1. Orders of toys imported into the USA need Toy Tracking Label:
https://www.cpsc.gov/Business--Manufacturing/Business-Education/tracking-label
2. You will see this information on LEGO pick-a-brick bags. Also, on request
you most be able to provide the CPSC testing results.
3. The issue with my order is the tracking label info for the manufacture wasn't
included on the bags. Additionally, CPSC requested the safety reports which LEGO
and Bricklink won't provide because "they can't attest to the authenticity
of the bricks".
So a partial solution is following the labeling requirement. There doesn't
appear to be a solution to the testing problem in the event the test results
are requested.

| Good point.
I like to pay for the peace of mind after a few really large chargebacks, but
I suspect you're correct on the calculations

| For a fee stripe also offers chargeback protection. You can find details here:
https://stripe.com/pricing#radar-pricing
Chargeback Protection
Defend your business from the unpredictability of disputes. With Chargeback Protection,
Stripe will cover both the disputed amount and any dispute fees—no evidence submission
required.
0.4%
per transaction
Not sure how to set it up but it seems worth it for the peace of mind.

| Is there a trick for getting help from bricklink?
I'm trying to fix this and an account issue and I've noticed that even
when they respond to a ticket they never respond to replies or follow up questions.
I was lucky once to have Russell answer me but he hasn't responded.
